I wasn't trying to single you out and apologize if you did feel singled out, but calling other people cowards for simply pointing out that this situation is far, far more complicated than simply dialing 911 is totally uncalled for.

Agreed. People on here are out of control. The GA is not at fault here. He went to someone with power, told them what happened, and that should've been that. Should he have called the police? Yes. But it was a heat of the moment thing, and it is very sad that some of you don't understand that. No one knows what they would've done in that situation, so stop assuming that you know what you would have done. Odds are, you wouldn't be too happy with what you had done.

The people here that should be gone are Spanier, Curley, and Paterno. They are the ones who should've taken responsibility of the situation and notified police. Considering how high they are in respect to the university, something should've been done immediately. This IS NOT the GA's fault. That's one thing for certain.

McQueary is just as guilty of covering this up as Curley and Schultz. When they took 3 weeks to take Sandusky's locker room key away,which was a joke.McQueary should have called the police. Loyalty be damned. We're talking about a sexual predator here. Same goes for the janitor James Calhoun. It sounds as if they both were worried about job security. If that's the case,what kind of environment surrounds Penn St football when reporting a deviant crime could lead to getting fired?
The only answer is an environment that is motivated solely by loyalty and strong arm tactics that suppresses anything that may harm the program or the university. What sane person wouldn't risk a job over the life of a child? They chose to keep it within the group while a sexual predator used his position within the university and community to repeatedly prey on young boys.

There's no excuse here. This should have happened 14 years ago. Please spare me the "They were confused or horrified" take. I served with 18 year old men that made life and death decisions everyday. Bottom line,many heads need to roll in State College.

The biggest problem is that you are not this man, and this isn't the military. This is not as black and white as some people want it to be.

That just about sums up why the predictor had 14 more years to wreck innocent lives. When a child's life or innocence is involved a man should simply do the right thing. I find it easy to understand why our society continues to crumble with that type of thinking. Your right,I'm not that man. If I was,I couldn't live with myself.

It's not that what the student did was the absolute right thing to do. However, this isn't because of a crumbling society or because of wimpy people; this is a classic psychological case. Some people can't take the trauma or think straight when something like this happens. It can be just as traumatic for the person witnessing the happening as for the person physically involved. Not everybody is mentally tough to take something like this, and perhaps this student was one of these people.

I don't blame McQueary but I do blame Paterno. He's not legally at fault obviously but morally, my Lord how in the world did he live with himself knowing what was going on? He could have prevented more incidents, he should have gone to authorities, he should have made sure that Sandusky was investigated and ultimately behind bars.

For all of the things that JoePa stood for during the last half-century, how can he not step down? Paterno blew it in the biggest situation of his tenure. This is clearly much, much larger than the game of football - how does he not make sure that more innocent children aren't harmed? Pride, honor, blah blah blah. Paterno failed himself and all the children affected by this disaster. Everything he preached about honor, character, doing the right thing on and off the field. He bailed on all of that in the stickiest of situations. It's disgusting. More kids' lives were destroyed because Paterno didn't have the spine or wherewithal to put an end to this when he could and should have.

There aren't many things in this world that make my stomach turn and skin crawl but this scandal is definitely one of them.

Yeah, you did one thing, barely, and it was a pretty damn big charge. I've lost a lot of respect for him.

I hope we do see the whole thing unfold and I do want to see what really happened whether I was right or wrong. Justice always needs to be served. With that said, I respect you and your opinion as well, and I'm glad we had a sparring match over it.

It's because the average person is waiting on the media/news outlets to present the information to them, instead of researching for themselves.

The media won't dare talk down towards JoePa. I know he's a living legend in College Football, but he won't survive this.

Now, I know NCAA might do something, but can someone explain why? I'm not trying to diminish what happened, clearly, this is worse than any of these other programs have done, but as far as the football team, what was a violation?

This is assuming the NCAA will throw some punishment down.

I don't know the definition of the rule, but couldn't covering up child molestation by a former member of the staff be lack of institutional control?

Again, other than the name of that rule, I don't know what defines it. It just feels like it would fit.

The only thing I've read that would be an NCAA violation, would be when Sandusky promised a kid that he could walk-on the team. But I don't think that kid ended up playing.. so who knows. Other than that, I don't think the NCAA can do anything because this is a legal issue.

What's interesting to me is that Paterno's testimony was pretty similar to the AD and VP's (saying the GA only said there was inappropriate actions, but not sexual) but he's not being charged while the AD and VP are. I understand Paterno is a legend in Pennsylvania, but no one is above the law.

Sources: Sandusky worked out in Penn State weight room multiple times last week.

They'd all been questioned by then, right? Weren't they, you know, aware that he was an alleged pedophile at this point?
