Well maybe the fact that osu got drummed in two of the six games. And tim deserves to be IN THE CONVERSATION for the best player... not saying he 100% is, but he deserves respect for his accomplishments. And the juniors on that 08 gator team are widley considered the best class ever, espn has them ranked #1 in there poll that was made last year I believe, so they should at least get 'honorable mention' in that category. And I definitely don't think they would've beaten the canes or huskers, BUT I do believe were the best team to not run the table. A one point upset isn't the end of the world, especially since we play in the SEC and that year we played both a good Miami team and a decent fsu team...if any team deserves the benefits of the doubt for a loss, its the 08 gators.

I'd put 03 USC up against that 08 Gator team any day of the week and I don't see them as a top 10 all time team. I'd put 08 USC up against them as well without any hesitation. That 08 USC defense was as good as any I've seen in the past decade.

Right because the BCS has never gotten which team to put in the title game wrong. 08 had just as many great players. And please you're calling someone else a homer. Ok kettle. No team had more players drafted in 08'than USC.

I would put the 2000 Cane team in the running for best 1 loss team also. Lost the second game of the year on the road in Washington by 5 points and proceeded to win 34 straight games before they lost. They were kept out of the National Title game by FSU, a team they had beaten earlier in the year.


Could be a homer pick, but do not think you can discount them either.

I think you need to re think the things you are using as criteria to determine the best team ever.

That was a very good team. That game they lost to UW was a weird game. Just one of those days.

Can you go one post without mentioning the SEC? I think most of us on this board follow college football pretty well and are well aware the Florida Gators play in the SEC.

I'd like to see 1997 Michigan go up against some of these teams. Mostly because I'm curious as to how that defense would stack up against them. They allowed under 10 points a game that year and their schedule was pretty damn tough. It's just a shame we never got to see them play Nebraska that year. That would have been a great matchup.

Agreed. That was a fun team to watch play defense. In the great players of our generation discussion Charles Woodson doesn't get enough mention imo.

Their offensive line was ridiculous as was there LB corps. I read that 31 players from that team played in the NFL.

Underrated group imo.

I personally saw the 04 team play twice that year and I would put them up there in the discussion behind 01 miami and 95 nebraska.
