In this day and age of reduced scholarships and watered down talent? Their run has been outstanding to say the least.

Triple Crown, the resume is certainly impressive there for Oklahoma - no doubt. I'm really talking about this particular stretch in history for Alabama though, and how it compares to similarly organized periods of time. We could compare Alabama/Notre Dame/Oklahoma/Texas/USC as programs in their entirety until our face turned blue, but that's not what I was really getting at. There are a few that are on equal footing with Bama's current run, but none can say they were better. If Alabama wins it all this year again, I don't see how it isn't the most impressive stretch when comparing to other runs of its kind.

Anyway, I was just defending my home team a little. Our fans aren't the humblest of the bunch, but they love their team just like any one else. It's just difficult being a winner sometimes .

I have to go with Nebraska from the mid-90's...people forget how dominant those teams were. They DESTROYED people, lost 3 times in 5 years (93-97) and won three national titles. Yes, 'Bama is impressive right now, but for my money Nebraska still gets my vote. If 'Bama goes 14-0 and wins another title this year than they should be in the discussion.

I have to go with Nebraska from the mid-90's...people forget how dominant those teams were. They DESTROYED people, lost 3 times in 5 years (93-97) and won three national titles. Yes, 'Bama is impressive right now, but for my money Nebraska still gets my vote. If 'Bama goes 14-0 and wins another title this year than they should be in the discussion.

Player for player team for team, those Nebraska teams, the great FSU teams, the 2001 Miami or Miami teams from the 80's are on a whole other level than the current Alabama teams.. It's not even close. Parity has changed the ball game.

What's impressive about Bama's run isn't the talent level or the caliber of their play, because they simply don't compare to the teams mentioned earlier, it's their ability to sustain this run, despite the scholarship limits, the spreading out of talent across the conferences, etc.

That being said, I still put an asterisk next to the title from two years ago, it was a joke Bama was in that game, and it was a joke that two SEC teams not only played each other but it was a rematch from earlier in the season.

In a system where there is no true playoff, you can't put a team in the title game that not only didn't win it's conference but didn't even win it's own division. However in the end it may have been a good thing, as I believe that was the final nail in the BCS coffin.

Agreed...I think I pointed it out in this thread. How we can be talking about a 'Bama dynasty when they didn't even when their own division one year is beyond me. It's impressive no doubt and Saban is the best coach in the business right now, but they still have a ways to go in order to match some of those others you mentioned. I know FSU only won 2 titles in their run, but they finished in the top 5 EVERY year from like 1987 to 2000 or 2001. That will NEVER be matched again IMO and is just as impressive. Yup...that 1993 ND/FSU game was epic. I still go on the youtube channel and watch those 1990's FSU/UF games as well. I don't know if it's just getting older, but the 'big' games just don't have the same feel as those games did. Maybe they will someday, but man, it's hard to beat the talent levels and depth of those 1980's and 1990's teams. Heck, the 1990's UT/UF series was insane. It's still CFB and a lot of fun, but I actually preferred the lack of parity IMO. I'd rather have some super teams that go 2 and 3 deep than the parity/mediocrity that we see today.

In college football every game counts!

Well, every game counts except that that Bama/LSU game that LSU won on Bama's field that decided the SEC West and SEC championship.

It mattered so much that Bama got awarded a title after LSU won Bama's division, beat Bama on the road, and won Bama's conference.

LSU finished like 13-1 while Bama finished 12-1 and Bama got awarded a title....

LSU basically got penalized by having to play Georgia while Bama rested up. So basically that SEC championship win didn't really help LSU either. It would have only hurt them had they lost. In essence, LSU was penalized for winning while Bama was awarded for losing.

It's a pretty stupid system in that LSU put them self in a position to play for a conference title by going undefeated and beating Bama while Bama was just sitting at home resting knowing they would probably be in despite losing the biggest game of the year. All that said, people still say every game is important and matters. It doesn't.

It also doesn't matter when you lose. LSU lost their final regular season game to Arkansas a few years ago, had two losses, and got to play for the championship in their own state again....

What a joke. My team has benefited from this crap too and I still think it's the most horrible system in sports.

Bama has had really good teams in recent years but they lost their biggest game of the year at home to LSU. LSU shouldn't have had to beat Bama again while Bama had 6 weeks off to prepare and LSU had to get ready to play a SEC championship game.

In the wake of Finebaum leaving, WJOX 94.5 FM in Birmingham moved their mid day show to 2-6 (The JOX Roundtable) and introduced a new show from 11-2 called the "Mid day MASS".

JOX had also lost their deal with ESPN Radio and the new 97.3 the zone in Birmingham got that contract. They were lobbying heavily for Finebaum for a long time until this announcement that he's going to be working out of Charlotte with ESPN.

Now, ESPN and The Zone are pulling the plug on their sports radio station to make room for Finebaum's new show. What that means is that an OUTSTANDING morning show with Skarbinsky from the Birmgham news, AL.com and Scott Griffin are left with nowhere to go and JOX will likely pull the plug on the Mid Day Show, since they will have to make room for Fienbaum again and they are getting their ESPN affiliation back.

It sucks for Birmingham radio, honestly. Competition is good and the morning show on JOX 94.5 really sucks in comparison to what The Zone had. The Roundtable has been better than Finebaum for a long long time now. I'm hoping they just go back to mid day and let Finebaum have his 2-6 back.

It sucks for the new show, but that's business. I just hate we are losing Smashmouth Radio with Skarbinsky and Griffin. They are way better than listening to Al Del Greco and Jay ****ing Barker in the morning.


A lot of this probably doesn't make sense to you guys since you don't listen to Birmingham radio. To summarize my post, Finebaum's return is really ****ing up Birmingham radio. Most of us haven't missed the guy the slightest bit.

Lineup isn't bad except for the opening drive. I absolutely love the JOX Roundtable. Lance Taylor, Jim Dunaway, and Ryan Brown are awesome together. They know their stuff and are genuinely entertaining.

I think they chose 100.5 for the ESPN station because it was all ready a cumulus media station and Auburn sports are broadcast there.

Alabama has had a really good run, but I don't consider them their dynasty to be as good as some of the others. 2 of their 3 NC's are basically the result of a very high preseason ranking and luck more than anything else. Plus their schedule was very favorable last year (and is this year). They're going to win a 4th I think, probably in some sort of similar way to some of the other 2 (lose a game, other teams fall apart in the last week of season, Alabama sneaks in). Now if they had been undefeated for all three NC's, then I might be singing a different tune.
