Re: 2015-2016 Coaching Carousel Thread
How quickly we forget
1. Just how bad USCe was before Holtz/Spurrier
2. 3 straight 11 win seasons.
3. Major injury to Lattimore in a year you guys had a legit shot to win the east.
4. Clowney only showing up to play for half of his senior season.
The amount of talent that HBC convinced to stay in state instead of going to FSU/somewhat Clemson whom both had a stranglehold on the state before he got there is unreal. Failing to acknowledge is just silly in my opinion. You guys were Kentucky bad before those two...
The last thing I'll say about HBC is this: "You can't spell Citrus without U-T."
You'll be missed Steve.Golf: Bubba
MLB: Braves
Nascar: Smoke
NBA: Heat
NCAA: Florida & Miss State
NFL: Whichever team currently has the most of my favorite college players
NHL: Caps
Tennis: The Joker & Sloane Stevens
WWE: Dean Ambrose

Even with the win over OU, Charlie Strong may find himself on the chopping block as well.I'd be surprised if Whittingham goes to USC. I think he is a Ute for life. Guy loves Utah and is a pretty devout Mormon IIRC.
So what is the list right now?
North Texas
USCe
USC
Maryland
^^ That's in order of prestige. Seriously though, I think UVA will open up, Miami will more than likely. Seems like this will be a very active year for jobs.Ohio State Buckeyes | Carolina Panthers | Charlotte Hornets | Cincinnati RedsComment

Strong won't be going anywhere soon. He's got support from several high ranking boosters, and the powers that be at the University like him.
Add Saturday's win over Oklahoma, and he's fine.Boston Red Sox

I've read just the opposite. There are many prominent boosters that didn't like him to begin with when he got hired, and especially now with how the team has performed. How they finish this season will tell the story, going 6-7 and having another losing season will not keep him employed at Texas.
They've reportedly been reaching out to potential candidates already.Last edited by Sportsbuck; 10-13-2015, 01:21 PM.Ohio State Buckeyes | Carolina Panthers | Charlotte Hornets | Cincinnati RedsComment

Re: 2015-2016 Coaching Carousel Thread
I don't watch football but listen to a lot of sports talk here, so let me chime in on the Spurrier thing. After the UGA game he kind of meandered around the stadium after the game. That told me he was done. I don't see it as "quitting on your team" etc. It doesn't make him a bad person. He's 70 years old, he had players saying they weren't gonna play on twitter. He wasn't enjoying himself and he didn't have the fire in him.
If I was a South Carolina fan/booster, I'd much rather him leave now than drag on without any of the skills that made him a great coach. I'd take his situation over a Bobby Bowden or Joe Paterno where they become shells of their former selves. He was 1-9 in his last 10 SEC games, lost to Kentucky 2 years in a row. He took South Carolina to a respectable level (the team was sub .500) and did a lot for this state and the school. He deserves to go out whenever he wants.PSN:BrrbisBrrComment

Re: 2015-2016 Coaching Carousel Thread
I hated Spurrier at Florida, but respected him. He was a tremendous coach who more often than not got the best of us during the heyday of the rivalry. And I always felt like he could have swapped teams with Fulmer and continued winning.
But, assuming it's not a health issue - and it doesn't sound like it is - then I've lost a lot of respect for Spurrier.
You want to resign at the end of the year? Cool, no problem. Want to announce now that you're done at the end of the year so the school can start looking for your replacement? Great.
But you don't quit midseason because your team sucks. And that's essentially what he said he did today. You don't ask the kids to buy into your program and then when things don't go the way you want, just bail on them.
He loved dishing out the jabs, but he showed at the end that he couldn't take them.Last edited by LowerWolf; 10-13-2015, 08:19 PM.Comment

He took you full circle. Brought you out of the bottom for a few years and then just as quickly brought you back to the bottom.
He quit because he either didn't want to be fired or didn't want to bother for the rest of the year.

Re: 2015-2016 Coaching Carousel Thread
I may be in the minority, but I'm not losing any respect over his decision. He should've stepped down before the season even started. Last year was evident enough that he had lost his magic and after the bowl win he should have hung it up.
I agree with what he said, why delay the inevitable? He's lost his skills as a coach and was past the end of the road. Stepping down gives the team a chance to be better than they were with him. Sure, it's a bummer for the kids that are there now and maybe though they'd be playing for him all 4 years, but I think it was pretty clear the last couple of years that he was declining and quickly so.
If anyone has earned the right to do what he did, it is the HBC.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”
