Re: Week 2- #5 Oklahoma @ #2 Ohio State "Round 2 At the 'Shoe"
From where I sit in enemy territory, OSU's problems are primarily threefold:
1) The OL looks the same as last year. Pretty good run blockers, but when they have to pass block, they get turnstiled by any pass rush worth a damn. OSU fans who watch more of their team can comment better than I can, but Jamarco Jones looks like a horrendous bust of a player every time I see him play.
2) Barrett is a great runner, and apparently a tremendous leader (which by the way pretty much prevents him from ever being benched), but as stated above, if opposing teams can get Ohio State into situations where they have to pass, Barrett is spectacularly mediocre. It's staggering to see how much he has regressed from his freshman season.
3) I am very unimpressed with the players OSU has on the perimeter. Their RBs are very good, and Campbell is a plus as the slot-type Curtis Samuel role, but their actual wideouts are not difference makers to me. I know a lot of that traces back to Barrett's deficiencies as a passer, but I just don't see "it" from any of OSU's wideouts like the "it" that Devin Smith, Michael Thomas, Corey Brown, or even Jalin Marshall had. I guess they're big and fast and were highly recruited, but none of them have shown it yet. Combine that with the near complete evaporation of the TE in OSU's offense (Vannett and Heuerman were extremely underrated; Marcus Baugh is a nonentity IMO), and you get a dramatic collapse of a passing offense.
OSU will still out-talent their way through basically the entire schedule from here on out and be right in the playoff hunt at the end.Ohio State Buckeyes | Carolina Panthers | Charlotte Hornets | Cincinnati RedsComment

Ohio State is still really good. It was just one of those nights that they went up against another really good team and for whatever reason didn't have their "A" game.
If the Buckeyes run the table tbey'll be in the playoff. It will be difficult but it's totally possible.

I picked OU to win but I didn't expect it to be by such a margin as this. I still think OSU is still among the top teams in the nation and will be in the playoff hunt but I do think there should be a little bit of concern. This is two games in a row now where Barrett didn't look extremely sharp. Some of that has to do with the inexperience at WR but I also think some of it falls on his shoulders as well. It's a good thing that Ohio State is so supremely talented that they can muster wins based on that alone.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Week 2- #5 Oklahoma @ #2 Ohio State "Round 2 At the 'Shoe"
My thoughts...
1) Baker Mayfield, holy wow. I was already a huge fan, but that was one of the best big game performances I've ever seen. To play like he did and have the numbers he did in general is one thing... but to do it on the road, at night, in the Shoe, with a bunch of freshman and nobodies because his best weapon is out? That's some all-timer kind of stuff. Hats off to him for an incredible game.
2) One constant theme from every loss under Urban Meyer: going away from our workhorse RB's. There is absolutely no reason why JK Dobbins and Mike Weber should COMBINE for 16 carries while JT Barrett has 18. Feed them the rock. We could've won this game with a steady diet of power running.
3) I love JT Barrett. He's done great things and been a great representative of this program, and is a class act. But a change HAS to be made under center. He hesitates and doubles clutches like crazy. Won't throw it to a WR unless they are WIDE open. Just not a good passer unless he's in some serious rhythm. And now he's become tentative running the ball. If he's not running hard, there is no reason for him to be out there. Give my man Dwayne Haskins a shot.
4) The WR's continue to be a clown show. The coaching staff's insistence to keep Terry McLaurin out there as a top target is baffling. I'd like to see a steady diet of Austin Mack and Trevon Grimes, and Ben Victor if he decides to start giving a ****. Just put some guys out there that will go out there and win 50/50 balls... assuming we have QB who will throw them.
5) I am concerned by the defense, but not as much. Tough to do much when you've got a QB having the night Baker was having. Our secondary is nowhere near as good as advertised... they've got to step up or its going to be a long season.
6) Urban needs to fully hand over the keys to Kevin Wilson. Let him run EVERYTHING to do with the offense. This offense reeks of Kevin Wilson calling the 2016 Ohio State offense. The man is one of the best offensive minds in CFB history, let him do his job.
The bottom line for me is that continuing to play JT Barrett at quarterback will result in Ohio State wasting a national championship caliber squad for the third straight year. We can't count on a world class defense scoring more points than the offense against Michigan this year. We need the offense to pull their weight.Last edited by Sportsbuck; 09-10-2017, 05:41 PM.Ohio State Buckeyes | Carolina Panthers | Charlotte Hornets | Cincinnati RedsComment

Re: Week 2- #5 Oklahoma @ #2 Ohio State "Round 2 At the 'Shoe"
I would put all the blame of the 31 points on our OFFENSE, for this reason... Any defense that is literally on the field 75% of the game is going to give up points... Actually, 31 is good lmfao... Should have been more like 45 considering our offense went 3 and out 80% of the time.... But the reality is if our offense actually drove down the field consistently and was able to chew clock, Oklahoma would have only scored like 20 pointsComment
