Yep the defense has been bad for a few years but they get the benefit from Bama having better players and the past history. Also while the defenses were great in the past, they were overrated because the offenses were so bad in the SEC. Much hasn't changed on the defensive side but the offenses are now actually good and defense looks bad.

That's all fine but the Big 12 has been about the O for 20 years the SEC just got those coaches in the league within the last 3..

OU and Texas will be ok in the SEC.

OU probably will but Texas won't if they don't improve before they leave.

I loved all of the comments in this thread when OU was down big early. Those are always gold.

I agree with you too. A&M hasn't been able to move the ball on anyone this year...including Colorado. Their offense has looked terrible and then tonight they drop 41.

I'm definitely not saying OU is better than Bama. I'm not even saying OU is elite. I'm just saying that Texas has a lot more talent on offense than Texas A&M and Texas A&M just torched Bama. We're in an era of offense. Did anyone watch the Ole Miss/Arkansas game?

I'm not sure what this OU team will do the rest of the way but they look like a completely different team with Williams in at QB. He brought some poise, big play potential, and attitude to the team. It was the spark OU needed.

OU was down 28-7...Williams came in on 4th and 1....OU outscored Texas 48-20 the rest of the game. One playmaker at QB can make a huge difference

            Re: Week 6 Discussion

Not to rehash a decades old argument, but it is a bit cavalier to write off SEC defenses of yore for being overrated due to a lack of offensive firepower. I can confidently say that because over the last 30 years the conference with the overwhelmingly largest number of NFL draftees is the SEC, and talent begets results.

The truth is that those SEC defenses were probably overrated, and the truth is also that those offenses were probably underrated. Just like the offenses of the Big12, Pac10/12, etc were overrated, and the defenses....well, Oregon held an Auburn team that went undefeated, putting up 50 points regularly, to just 22 in 2010.

All of that is to say, the current day SEC defenses are absolutely living off of prior history in perception. Are they still the best though? Based on the number of NFL players taken then you could make the argument, but defense has become really hard with the way that rules are now across the board. We almost have to change our definition of what a good defense is, just like we do in the NFL where the '85 Bears are no longer possible because of how the game is played now. Also, the truth is that the SEC is no longer the strongest conference anymore in totality, or if it is then it is much closer than it was just 10 years ago. The conference used to be filled with quality teams, but now the talent is just heavily concentrated in a couple.

Michigan escapes Lincoln with a win because Nebraska likes to find creative ways to lose.

Moody hit two clutch FGs in the 4th for the win.

                Fire Satterfield!

And how many weeks does a coaching staff, especially a defensive coordinator, have to see that a 3 man rush, prevent defensive scheme isn't working? :

Also, Texas A&M will now be ranked in the Top 10 to protect Alabama's playoff resume.

Saban's worst nightmare is whatever isn't currently benefitting him.. until it does. I'm old enough to remember his tirade on no huddle offense being bad for player health just because he was getting worked over by it.

RIP because most of us don't have the energy for this debate anymore. I just enjoy watching football from all over the country and this regional debate **** isn't worth it to me.

Pal I watch Auburn every week and I still don't understand us.

Right now Auburn needs an offensive line, a quarterback, and receivers. Towards the end of Malzahn's tenture the lack of recruitment and development at some key positions was so obvious and this current staff is paying for it.

Bo Nix isn't a great quarterback but games like Saturday sans a few bad plays he did enough to win the game or at least be in the game late. The team leads the SEC in dropped passes and it's not particularly close. Yeah there are plays where he bails on his protection way too early instead of giving the route time to develop but when he does make a throw he needs some help. His adjusted completion percentage was < 80%. Aaron Murray kept talking about the speed that the ball was coming out on those Shivers passes out of the backfield but that's how those passes have always looked and Shivers usually comes up with them. I kind of spent most of the game annoyed that Aaron Murray was even calling the game. They had a guy who can't pronounce Auburn, Aaron Murray, and Neuheisel. There was a moment where they were discussing Bo Nix and he shifts immediately to praising Stetson Bennett I'm not really pressed about it but the longer the game went the more the bias started to leak a little.. even heard a "we" moment in reference to Georgia. I guess the alternative was Gary Danielson.

Defensively Auburn has lost a lot of talent to the draft up front but the defensive backs are really good. What I worry about is Derrick Mason. Sudden change of possession and they go Cover 0. I'm sitting at home and even I know Georgia was about to take a shot deep.. and they left Nehemiah Pritchett back there with no help. Auburn has a good secondary.. McCreary, Simpson, Pritchett, and Smoke Monday are all great. Right now the scheme and playcalling just isn't doing them any favors.

We came into this season predicted to finish at the bottom of the SEC W by many but when the season gets here you want to believe you have a chance in every game so you do and that's where the frustration comes in. In reality this team is a work in progress and Harsin needs some time. You just don't get that luxury when your two biggest rivals are Alabama and Georgia.

                          Re: Week 6 Discussion

Yeah, Murray's casting was not particularly great. In fact, it was pretty annoying.

In Mason's defense, Georgia had a very limited QB in the game, and the receiving core is pretty decimated (has been all season) outside of the TE position. Forcing Bennet to throw and beat you seems like the better of the two options. That being said, man coverage also kind of benefits Bennet because he is kind of a 1 read guy who locks in on a single receiver. Zone defenses have plagued him both last year and this year.

The game was closer than the score, but also not as close as Bo Nix would have you believe. He was definitely right that it was PI in the endzone, but he also didn't help his case there by throwing behind the receiver. I also don't think that call had much of an impact on the game though. If he wants to blame anyone, blame his receivers for dropping so many passes. Despite only scoring 10 points, they were pretty scary on offense. They created plenty of opportunities for themselves that they just didn't execute on. A few less dropped passes, and the game would have looked very different.
