Wisconsin might shred us on the ground. I’m not very impressed at all by the interior defensive linemen.

True. DT play probably would've been 3rd on my list of worries. No real playmakers there. But, we haven't really played a B1G type team yet either so it's hard to extrapolate from 3-3-5 and triple option stuff. There will probably be a few more bodies available also. I'm more concerned about lacking a Devin Bush for Wisconsin. The Michigan D-Line usually does pretty well with straight up hat-on-hat type of stuff. The Badgers lost some good O-Linemen (Deiter and Edwards) from last year so that should help offset our losses on the D-Line.

Jonathan Taylor will do some Jonathan Taylor things regardless.

I hate to say it, but we're looking like Michigan State on offense. And without their defense.

Gattis seems to be a bust insofar as you can isolate his scheming from the team's massive turnover problem. I'm also willing to cede that Harbaugh's seat should finally be getting a bit warm.

Not such a big deal losing in Madison to the Badgers. But, getting blown out and continuing to look terrible is a major problem.

Another forgettable game not worth recapping. The thing that bothers me most isn't really the win/loss, but just how bad the entertainment value has been this season. The team isn't fun to watch at all for a variety of reasons (turnovers, coaching, turnovers, execution, general malaise, and turnovers). I'm a fan of this team whether they win or not and I don't have to see them in the title hunt really, but give me something exciting to root for on Saturdays instead of a stress headache, lol.

It feels like this team is still stuck in 2nd gear. I think this team will get better as the season goes on, but right now I'm looking at the schedule and 8-4 is staring back at me.

It’s the same story every year. Just want to see guys on the field playing their hearts out, this team almost looks as if it’s already quit on Harbaugh.

Agreed. They're also playing scared. I'm not sure if the receivers are not getting open or if Shea can't go through progressions. I understand the Oline is grossly underperforming, but even when he has time it's happy feet or one read. The number of wide open receivers yesterday is beyond troubling. Still lacking that breakaway speed too but I'm hoping this lights a fire. I don't see another coach at this point. It would have to be a big name and they are nowhere to be found. Let's get it together Coach! I'm here forever...GO BLUE

True. I'd still like to see how the entire season pans out first. There are legions of internet people ready to fire Harbaugh and/or Josh Gattis and/or Don Brown right now, but those are the same internet people who were clamoring for Hoke to get fired and that hiring Harbaugh would solve all our problems. Or that getting a spread OC would solve our problems. THE INTERNET always wants instant gratification. These things have a way of working themselves out...either the team will rally and recruiting will pick up and maybe even a win over OSU is on the horizon. Or, the team will continue to look bad and disjointed, recruiting will crater, and rivals will continue to mop the floor with us. One way or another

Well, Riley was the OC under Stoops for a couple of years so the transition was smooth. Play style and recruiting philosophies stayed the same. We had trouble getting coaches before Rich Rod and Hoke too. I'd rather not go that route again.

I expected more out of Patterson considering he is the first QB Harbaugh has had for more that one season.

I've started re-watching Michigan games from 2015 on YouTube to get a better feel for the Harbaugh era now that we're going on 5 years. A few things jump out right away:

                          1. Jake Rudock had a really rough start to his tenure at Michigan. He threw 3 picks at Utah, including the game-deciding pick-six. He also showed really poor deep accuracy (sidebar, man I miss watching Chesson, Darboh, and Butt get wide open). However, the degree to which he was executing the offense, making multiple reads, and getting the ball out quickly is simply not something Michigan has had ever since. Not from Speight, O'Korn, Peters, Patterson, or McCaffrey.

                          2. Point 1 leads me to this one...was it really wise to ditch the pro-style offense? Was the problem ever really the scheme or just not having QB and OL to run it to the max? I'd posit that 2015 Rudock (or a west coast QB like him) + 2018/9 OL + 2015/6 offensive scheme is probably a playoff contender. I keep coming back to, yeah, the spread can be nice, but having a methodical, organized offense is so much more consistent and also great for keeping the defense fresh. Better than watching so many plays turn into backyard football, and certainly better than whatever gumbo the 2019 team is serving up.

                          3. The talent on the DL was just so vastly superior. Watching Willie Henry, Chris Wormley, Mo Hurst, Mario Ojemudia, Ryan Glasgow, Matt Godin, and Taco Charlton out there wrecking the line of scrimmage makes me almost tear up when thinking about the current group.

                          4. Jabrill Peppers got a lot or crap (mostly from jealous rival fan bases) about his coverage skills, not making interceptions, and being overhyped. But, man, Peppers had a gear that nobody else on the field had. That Utah game is a great example of his blowing up plays in the backfield on a regular basis. Also was a really fantastic tackler. Khaleke Hudson has not come close to filling these shoes. Imagine a universe where both Peppers and Devin Bush started on the same Michigan team.

At the risk of just having a conversation with myself...I wonder what Jabrill Peppers' college career would've looked like had he been a full-time RB? I forgot how nifty he was out there and more than just a gimmick two-way player.

Alrighty then. A throwback to Bo Schembechler vs Hayden Fry era. But a win over a ranked conference opponent is always a good Saturday.

Defense is trending up after they mauled the Hawkeyes. Cam McGrone (or McGroon as they were calling him a few weeks ago) appears to have a ceiling as Devin Bush 2.0. Once he starts cutting back on his mistakes and missteps, look out. The D-Line had a better performance than I think anyone ever would've expected against an O-Line with 2 future NFL tackles in Alaric Jackson and Tristan Wirfs. Kwity Paye had a monster game and might've had 5 sacks had he not tweaked his hamstring. Carlo Kemp gets a lot of flak, but he was sneaky good in this one (I thought he was solid vs Army also). Lavert Hill is always one beat away from drawing a holding flag, but he made plays as well. Khaleke Hudson continues to be maddeningly inconsistent, alternating neat plays with bad ones.

Offense is still a dumpster fire outside of a house fire that contains particularly bad smelling trash. They need to figure out what they can and can't do because 24 total points against Wiscy+Iowa is a recipe for going nowhere fast. Complete inability to run the football for more than 3.5-ish YPC. I think it's pretty clear at this point what Shea Patterson is and is not, and I find it really confusing why the coaching staff can't put a better game plan together that accentuates his strengths (pretty deep ball, good accuracy on rhythm throws, nifty feet on option keeper) and mitigates his weaknesses (reading the entire field, deciding whether to stay in the pocket or bail, reading whether to hand off or keep).

Illinois should be a nice reunion to see how Brandon Peters has progressed, and also a fairly easy game to win in Champaign. Hopefully, the offense starts to develop something, anything, they can do consistently well. And then keep doing that.

I seem to recall that Rudock was total garbage against Utah, but by the end of the season he was rolling. That's the downside of not developing a QB and having to keep bringing in transfers year after year.

I didn't think Iowa was that good, so I had guessed a win at home following the loss to Wisconsin. I have four more wins coming with @Illinois, @Maryland, Sparty and @Indiana. As far as pulling an upset, I'd say the best shot is home against ND.

I agree they should have kept the pro-style offense. Urban Meyer was leaving, why not give it another shot against a new coach at home before scrapping it?
