I think the problem a lot of people have is that the sliders didn't fix that much in last years' game. You could set interceptions at zero and yet still have 8 INTs in a game. I also think that the major flaw everybody wanted to see gone, was back in full force. I agree this game is not yet near release, but some of these previews will be the best we will have for awhile. Places like IGN seem to skirt over a lot of the issues that are a big deal to the guys like us who play this game as much. So when we see our opportunity to see if the game has been "fixed" and it hasn't, people start to go off the deep end (myself included).

Ugh, ugh..double ugh!
I should have known that EA's idea of "wide open gameplay" is ZERO defense and an obnoxiously overdone big play aspect.
Oh how I long for someone to make a TRUE football sim, without having to worry if 8 year old Timmy can put up offensive numbers that would make Steve Spurrier envious.Comment

Re: NCAA Football 09 Hands-On Preview: Part one: Pasta Padre
We go through this every year. People read first impressions on any sports games and people jump the gun and scream the sky is falling. Correct me if im wrong but PP and CDJ were playing on all american and didnt tweak sliders.
Also, the game is supposed to be easy, high scoring and fun on default settings. Why? Because most people arent as sim crazy and nitpicky as us. They want to be able to drop back, throw the ball deep and score with ease. Sliders are supposed to help you make the game more difficult and realistic. NBA 2k8 is one of my favorite games but its a dunkfest w/o slider tweaks. Once you change the sliders its more realistic.
Now I'm not saying that sliders will automatically fix these percieved issues but can we at least wait to play the game before we start the bashing.People on this site are too quick to bash or praise this game its ridiculous.
I agree..sliders can help address some things, but I really wish these problems had been taken care of...maybe they will be.
I'll still be getting the game day 1 or sooner.AUBURN TIGERS

Re: NCAA Football 09 Hands-On Preview: Part one: Pasta Padre
Sliders didn't help **** last year....or ANY EA football year when it came to picks . The pick 6 is a staple of both Madden and NCAA. Until I see an INT slider at 0 that means NO picks, I mean every DB with hands dipped in motor oil, then I won't believe it.
I'm a dummy who will by this game every year sight unseen because I love college football, yet I'm not the same with Madden. But we could sticky this thread and come back in August and we'll all be going...."Yep, same old crap".PSN: JISTIC_OS

Re: NCAA Football 09 Hands-On Preview: Part one: Pasta Padre
I'm very skeptical about relying on sliders to fix ANY of the issues with their games because of the history of them releasing these games with all these slider options that do not work.
It's very frustrating knowing that most of the issues that are in Madden AND NCAA are hard coded into the gameplay engine and cannot be resolved with slider tweaks.Comment

I'd agree with the sliders - I'm a big fan of sliders, but again - the sliders didn't work last year.Comment

I usually agree with your point of view, but after so many versions of the game, and so many gameplay previews and then releases, at what point do you actually tell yourself to ignore the red flags?

I'm not saying that these things wont be issues. I'm just saying lets wait a while before dumping on the game.Comment

I guess my definition of red flags is different than most. A red flag for me is when I heard APF or NBA Live 08 didnt have a franchise mode. Those are features that are most haves for me and would make me decide not to buy a game. But here we have three guys who played a handful of games and gave impressions. They didnt tweak sliders and were given a limited time with a beta version of the game. Ive just learned to never judge gameplay of any game based on limited impressions. I remember I got to play MLB 2k6 weeks before release and from those 50 min i thought the game was great. When I bought it and actually spent time with the game then I realized it sucked.
I'm not saying that these things wont be issues. I'm just saying lets wait a while before dumping on the game.
There's a big difference between thinking a game is great with the first impression and thinking a game stinks. If you think the game is great, you may find some things later on, but if you are already finding flaws in the first few games, chances are its just going to go downhill from there.
Give me 2 hours with any sports game, and I will be able to tell you what 99% of its on the field gameplay issues are. It would take a little longer to discover dynasty flaws.
Bottom line, I'll wait until the well-respected members of this board spend their hard earned cash on it and give me a review. Luckily for me, the people around here have no will power.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Maybe the solution for EA is to make whatever game they want on default but spend some time creating a useful and robust set of sliders for people like us.Comment

Re: NCAA Football 09 Hands-On Preview: Part one: Pasta Padre
I'm sorry, but that is one of the funniest damn things I've read in a while!!
Fix turnover issue, improve CPU AI, better OL/DL interaction...instead we mascot games, gimmick K/QB games, and excessive cheerleader cutscenes! I understand that sim-style gamers are not in the majority when it comes to EA's target audience, but for the love of god fix AT LEAST one of those gameplay problems!Comment

What good will sliders do for us online people? Nothing. I must say I'm so disappointed I'm considering not even buying the game right on day one. Maybe I'll just play GTA IV all summer.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20
