Re: Best Defensive scheme to generate sacks
To the original poster:
I use Ohio State on Heisman level, and with the level of defensive players this team possesses you can get sacks out of just about any defensive formation and position.
I find the most success in the nickel strong packages, either rushing only the front 4, and mixing a few cornerback or linebacker blitz's to keep the computer from getting too comfortable with who is coming. My strategy is always to try to get a negative play on first down, get the CPU in the hole. Play tight coverage or sneak up a safety for first and second down, you may get burned deep, but with Ohio State your corners are skilled enough to make a play on the deep ball even if they get caught out of position.
If you are successful on first and 2nd, hopefully you get the CPU to 3rd and long. At this point, pin your ears back. Blitz an inside corner, or send both linebackers, or even blitz the safety. I average between 5-10 sacks a game with Ohio state, and typically 14-16 QB knockdowns. I rarely bring the house, as I feel with a good team you dont need too to get pressure. I usually control either the MLB or the LE. But like to mix it up by also sometimes controlling a DT or SS, and sometimes the blitzing corner. Keep the computer guessing and you will find plenty of sacks.Comment

Re: Best Defensive scheme to generate sacks
I'm a 4-3 guy but honestly I get sacks in any formation. The trick is to vary your looks. You want to shift your DLine and LB's a lot. Don't blitz every down though it doesn't hurt to show blitz every down if you want. The cpu adapts to what you like to do so if you have a habit of blitzing say your LOLB it picks up on that and defends against it. Be generous in your blitz package and send them from every where. I like to start a play with one of my front 4 because I feel I get more pressure than if I let the cpu do it.Comment

I rarely blitz anymore, Im more than happy to generate pressures and hits then getting sacks. I use base 4-3 and switch looks all the time. And I also quick sub line backers to the DE's and it gives a good pressure and sacks a few times. I mainly go for coverage sacks as wellJames Madison Dukes

Re: Best Defensive scheme to generate sacks
Depends if you are talking about vs the cpu or user. Versus the CPU I find that covering and only rushing 3 or 4 generates alot of sacks because if you blitz roboQB will somehow get the ball off. Against a user I run 335 and mix up my man/zone blitzes which gets me a good amount of sacks.
It really all comes back to your own defensive philosphy. If you are a bend but don't break style they stick to your 3 and 4 rushers and get coverage sacks. I am personally a high risk/reward player because I blitz a lot but also give up a good amount of big plays as a result.Comment

Re: Best Defensive scheme to generate sacks
I use a 3-4 and if I find a guy with high blk shd, fin mv, pow mv, spd and agl he gets moved to OLB if he is at least 220 lbs. I scour LB's, FS's and SS's for such guys and to be honest the elite safeties fit the bill moreso.
The big key is fit players who fit your scheme. With my 3-4 I need strong agile MLB's with high play rec. and tackle ratings, DE's with a high str, agl and block shed ratings and a monster DT who uses up two blockers who also has a high power and finesse move (hopefully). It's important to remember block shedding refers to the run game/return game/run after catch part of the game. PMV and FMV refer to the pass rush.
Several players above mentioned varying play calls - very important. I run the OLB blitz with a safety deep at times, I run the play where the two LB's on one side blitz and I also throw in a 3-4 cover 2 sink.
Saying all that, I manually control the DT starting out to generate pressure. Hope the above helps!Comment
