Documents: EA Sports designed games to replicate existing NCAA athletes
Jeremy Strauser, an employee of EA Sports from 1995-2011, testified that video game players were created to correlate with existing players numbers and biographical information. Strauser’s testimony took place last December but was filed by EA Sports last week.Tags: None -

I call BS. If true, why'd so many beg for a player editor???Comment

The court would have to be dumb anyway to not see that EA uses player likeness down to every little detail but there name. It was just a matter of time until someone fought it long enough
As gamers we will be the one that pays the price thoughComment

Re: Documents: EA Sports designed games to replicate existing NCAA athletes
I'ts always good when hypocrites (NCAA) and liars (EA...if this document is true) get exposed. I get sick of these big corporations constantly getting away with operating in the "gray zone" regarding anti-trust laws. I'm pulling for the players in this. As much as I like NCAA games right is right and wrong is wrong.
Bring on the class action and put the nail in this coffin for good.Last edited by Sundown2600; 05-10-2013, 01:29 PM.Comment

It was nice knowing you NCAA football series. You play with fire long enough, you will get burned and it looks like EA finally got burned.Comment

Re: Documents: EA Sports designed games to replicate existing NCAA athletes
Couldn't EA just randomize the players based on a team overall and continue making games? I would be surprised if this completely kills the series.Comment

Re: Documents: EA Sports designed games to replicate existing NCAA athletes
They could, but once damages are laid out, and penalties against future iterations (which could include the end of roster editing). NCAA would effectively become APF.Moderator

Re: Documents: EA Sports designed games to replicate existing NCAA athletes
Well it’s not like they were getting the job done making the game anyway...This could spell the end for NCAA FB as we know it but I really don’t care for EA or the NCAA for robbing the consumer and players for years...Don’t know how things will end but props to Ed O’Bannon for be steadfast…PSN: Somo23P

Re: Documents: EA Sports designed games to replicate existing NCAA athletes
From reading both documents, it still seems like a grey area. It is not a straight forward, black and white case. This article just took a quote from the other article and when you read the other one in a flow, it doesn't make this one seem that serious. For now it's just talking about their arguments. Possibilities really don't even stand out to me.Comment

Ah, I didn't think of future penalties. Could the court really make them take out roster editing?Comment

Re: Documents: EA Sports designed games to replicate existing NCAA athletes
I just don't see EA shelving this game. As long as they can make it they will.
This case could be tied up in appeals for years. EA still has a solid defense in the fact that they never actually named the players. Obviously a jury may not see it that way, but its a good argument none the less.
In these types of cases, when you fight a huge corporation like EA its tough to win. Lots of people see it as greed, and a jury might too.
Then again, I could be totally wrong. I learned everything I know about the legal system watching Law & Order.Comment
