Now OSU would have got crushed last year but that is beside the point.
      3. Stoops. Mr. consistent but consistently underachieves more times than not the past decade with many national title pre-season expectations and not living up to them by winning a one.
      4. Les Miles. I do not care about the talent argument. Just like I am not going to hold that against Stoops, Meyer or Saban, I won't Miles. The guy has 1 national title, would have won a 2nd if not for the bad luck of having to play another SEC team in the national title game. They had a pretty good year last year, minus the choke jobs against Bama and Clemson especially.
      5. Frank Beamer/Bill Snyder. Coaches that get more out of less talented teams most years.

I know I left off Peterson, who is a very good coach,...just not impressed with the HS schedule year in and year out. Same with Strong at UL. At least UL is going to the ACC so that gives them some street cred in my eyes.
I will give you liar but cheat?

This is such a subjective question to ask. If you just look at NCs won or at least played for and if we are talking about the 2000s as the "era". My list would be....

      Saban
      Meyer
      Tressel
      Stoops
      Miles
      Brown
      Carroll
      Kelly

Those are in no real order except Saban is super hot right now so he would have to be #1.

Re: With new news about coaching. Top 5-10

My top ten, based on an unbalanced mixture of overall production and recent success...

          01 - Nick Saban
          02 - Bob Stoops
          03 - Chris Peterson
          04 - Les Miles
          05 - Jim Tressel
          06 - Urban Meyer
          07 - Chip Kelly
          08 - Bobby Petrino
          09 - Pete Carroll
          10 - Steve Spurrier

All of these based on what they've done in college football (despite questionable morals on and off the field), whether or not they've moved on.

It'll probably be noticed that I've got Meyer dropped to #6 in contrast with what others have mentioned, but I feel he's often succeeded not purely because of his coaching skills, but based on the success of certain players, at least in the most recent success at Florida. I can't say for sure whether he'd have lasted as long as he did at Florida if he hadn't had Tebow (the same could be said for other coaches and star players, I'm sure). Granted, he was damned good at Utah, and seems to be on track with Tressel's guys at Ohio State, but I certainly see Saban, Stoops, Peterson, Miles and Tressel ahead of him.

I'd also like to make an honorable mention of James Franklin, not for what he has done yet, but for what he is doing and is going to do, whether or not he stays at Vandy for the long haul. He's going to be one of the next big names, I'm predicting. He's already getting the name out there recruiting-wise, and now it's time for further on-field recognition.

Yall are killing me with these Spurrier ratings outside the top 5 and I'm a UGA fan, I'm supposed to hate the guy. Whenever he's on the field, he is the smartest guy. He built Florida, he built South Carolina from crap, he has the championships. No reason he shouldn't be top 5 at the worst

He only has championship (singular). Not that one is anything to ignore. Unless talking conf titles which he has six, but those also came in a different era of SEC football then we are in now. I am not denying he deserves consideration, and where USC is now is unfathomable at my age, but I think he is kind of in the same boat as Mack Brown in some instances.

Clearly Meyer and Saban are top two. Those two build dominant teams.

And those mentioning James Franklin are dead on. That guy knows how t build a program. I've never seen a coach who makes you want to be a part of his program the way he does. Art Briles is amazing as well. I feel like Beamer is overrated based on the fact that many other coaches could do what he's doing now at Tech, and probably better. He's been there for so many years, but hasn't locked down the state in recruiting, even with UVA being very mediocre. He also consistently loses at least three games every season, with seemingly no big wins. Richt is somewhat underrated to me. He has won big games, it's just that he never wins them all. He's been in the same division as Meyer, Spurrier, Franklin, and in the same conference as Miles, Saban, and Petrino. He's coached when Tennessee had good players, Kentucky was somewhat formidable, was cross divisional rivals with Auburn who has had excellent teams, etc.

Sadly I don't think I can even name 25 coaches right now and I haven't seen anyone mention Al Golden. Is he not perceived as a good coach outside of south florida? I must say that Miami fans down here love Golden for the most part and think he's doing a phenomenal job rebuilding the U. Was a little surprised when nobody mentioned him.

Has he been great the last decade basically? Majority of the BCS era at least.

uhhh they went to the cotton bowl and OU twice when he was there. I'm not sure how Gundy isn't higher on all these lists? He is in the top 3 i believe in Wins in the last 5 years.

Sorry losing 5 games or more just doesnt sound good to me. Gundy still has much to prove but if they couldve gotten to that NC a few years ago I could see him in a top 15-20 situation.
