Re: EA CFB 25 Custom Playbook Thread
Is it me or is anyone else having trouble finding passing plays where the WR's are spread out across the field? Say 4 WR's and a HB in the backfield. I have found some plays where the WR's are bunched up without even looking up "Bunch". I am so used to '13 and '14, and they were easy to find.
Also, and I hope I explain this correctly. Are there any RPO plays where you don't have to read the possible DE crashing down? I know that sounds crazy, but I have the RP Weak WR Screen. You either let the HB carry it up the middle or if the CB is playing zone, it is a quick pass to the WR on a shallow out route. I can't speak for the WR on the screen. There is always too many defenders over there. Just to mix it up a little with some of these types of RPO plays because my reflexes aren't good enough when reading the crashing DE is necessary.Comment

Re: EA CFB 25 Custom Playbook Thread
The ultimate wish list item I have would be the ability to search by concept. Would make it a lot easier to not overstuff my book like you’re saying. I try not to have more than 200 plays and it can be so difficult. But at the same time, without overstuffing I feel like I get into the trap of running the same play over and over.
I do think I’m going to make another playbook and limit my book to these concepts and see how that goes. My rule is going to be I need 10 of these concepts in a formation to add it to my book. Hoping there’s maybe 15-20 total formations with these.
1. Mesh
2. Verts
3. Flood
4. Jet
5. Smash
6. Texas
7. Power
8. Power read
9. Read option
10. Trap
11. Speed Option

Re: EA CFB 25 Custom Playbook Thread
Here's how I do it:
I pick a playbook with all the formations I want to run. Then I go to practice mode against a highly rated overall defense, put it on the highest difficultly. I run every play 7 times. If it gets 4 or more yards at least 4 times then I add it to my favorites and that's how I come up with my playbook. I usually end up with 80 +/- total plays in my favorites. Yes, it takes a LONG time, but it has always worked for me in Madden and working well so far for this game. My offense is pretty solid, IMO.Last edited by M112Eagle; 07-28-2024, 07:17 PM.Comment

Re: EA CFB 25 Custom Playbook Thread
I keep overstuffing my playbooks. Lol. Torn between concepts. I want downhill running but a lot of the offset gun formations just don’t have all the passing concepts I want. You kind of have to commit to series football in a way, which I don’t mind necessarily but still I want certain passes. Also not sure which formations are four wide (since spread is 11 personnel now)… really wish they had it like 14 where you could see the personnel and all the formations set out in front of you before selecting plays. Also don’t like how much motion wr option has been stripped out of stuff (like trio offset or various pistol formations) but that’s all well and good. Think I’m committing to doing less option, but then I also have a real affinity for RPOs.
Based out of power spread, added some pistol, some
I… those are easy enough to make decisions about but 189 gun formation sets is a lot. Thinking of making a spread I book and an offset book to experiment with some other things I want to mess with.
Was experimenting with the duo sets for a little bit but not sure I utilize them as much more than gadgets.
Think I’m leaning toward doing something more pro spread/multiple (as implied by the pistol and gun) just need to get down from the high 400s in total plays to the 300s. I need to rate more things for game plan because that will make the overall number matter less… much to consider
Update: spread I was successful. Put in every split formation and every formation with a tight end as a fullback. Spread offset is more arduous. I can’t even fit doubles offset and doubles offset weak in it yet. And I keep misplacing trio offset 4wr. 189 is way too many formations to not be grouped alphabetically or by personnel lolComment

If I ever get around to finishing this playbook I'll definitely share it. Real life keeps getting in the way of my gaming time though, and any time I do try to fire the PlayStation up it seems my son is already on it.Comment

Re: EA CFB 25 Custom Playbook Thread
My playbook has remained pretty constant over the years. I love the West Coast Offense so all the plays I select are somewhat based on Bill Walsh's old offense and the variations that have been developed over the years. On this game I use all 56 available formation slots. I also really love compressed set. So I'd say I probably have 25-30 compressed sets in my book consisting of I Forms, Split, Weak, Singleback and Gun.
I also have included the Power I Tight, Maryland I, T form Tight, Full House Tight and Strong Jumbo to use as my goaline formations.
Stylistically, Id say my current offense kinda looks like a combination of Kyle Shanahan's Offense (Zone based Run game with several Boot action passing) and Harbaugh/Shaw Stanford offense circa 2009-2012ish.
It's fun recruiting because I love trying to find neat little Fullbacks to use. History tells me when my offense is running well I can get the FB with 50 or so catches.Comment

Re: EA CFB 25 Custom Playbook Thread
I currently have my custom playbook set up and I’m loving it in my offline dynasty. However it has come to my mind that the cpu never uses a custom playbook and I feel that I’m kind of putting myself at an advantage against the cpu. Has anyone else had similar thoughts? I’ve thought of a workaround for this is to limit the amount of plays and sets to match the avg number of sets that most school’s playbooks have. Just wanted to hear y’all’s thoughts.

That's not my thought...if I'm creating myself as a coach I should be able to come up with my own playbooks that identify as me as a coachComment

Exactly. That is not my playbook it's Coach BoB's(BC) for example. I also make more than 1 so that my various dynasties feel unique from each other and I can get more immersed in the universes I createNFL:New England Patriots

Re: EA CFB 25 Custom Playbook Thread
Highly recommend fishing around in the generic playbooks before creating yours because with so many formations (specifically shotgun sets) it’s possible there’s a solid template for what you already want to do so you don’t have to drive yourself crazy looking through 189 sets…
Currently experimenting with pistol in my gun-focused offense because I want to be run focused but I still need to carve 100 or 150 plays out of it for my own ease of useComment

Re: EA CFB 25 Custom Playbook Thread
Been playing around in the shotgun formations for most of my time on this game. Probably have something close to 60 hours right now. Going a little crazy.
Stuff I like right now:
True Option:- Speed option
- Inverted veer/power read if my opponent is trying to contain my QB (RB to the edge)
Passing Game:- Trail plays
- Mesh
- Choice Deep/Deep Choice in 5WR
- Mtn Return Levels/Mtn Z Spot in Trips TE
- Slot Y Wheel in Y Off Trio Wk
RPOs:- Bubbles (Alert more than Read)
- Alert Hitches
- All of the orbit swings and orbit posts
- Bubble Y Pop/Counter Glance Post (throw the post!) in Y Off Trips
- Read Y flat in Slot Right/Trips TE
- Bubble Draw in 5 WR (the pull does suck though)
Run Game:- Quick Base/Power O
- Counter series (strong or weak)
- Duo
- HB Direct Snap in Y Off Trips
- Iso in Slot Right
- Inside Zone Split
- HB Sweep/Outside Zone
- Jet fake handoff and handoff fake jets
True Screens:- Orbit Cross Screen in Spread Y Slot and Trips TE
Formations I'm using:- 5WR
- Bunch
- Doubles
- Doubles Y Off Wk
- Slot Right (I think there's two Slot Rights in shotgun, use the second one)
- Spread Y Slot
- Trips
- Trips TE
- Trips TE Offset
- Y Off Trio Wk
- Y Off Trips
- Y Off Trips Wk
Thinking about adding stuff beyond the shotgun, but it's like drinking water from a fire hose. What should I attack next? Single back? Pistol? I formation series (I Form, Strong, Strong I, Weak, Weak I, Maryland I, Power I)? Or hardcore run series (Split Backs, Split T, Flexbone, Wishbone, Full House, Wildcat)? Where is the juice worth the squeeze?
Edit:
Also, for the situations
Runs/RPOs: 1st down, 2nd medium, 2nd long, 3rd short, 4th short, run out clock
Passes: 2nd long, 3rd long, 3rd medium, 4th medium, 4th long
Shots/jets/screens: 2nd short (think explosives) and fringe red zone
Red zone/goal line and two minute drill/conserve time is mostly about which audibles I like out of certain formations (call runs in red zone/goal line and passes in two minute/conserve time).Comment

Re: EA CFB 25 Custom Playbook Thread
I have finally sat down and cleared out some plays that my son and I never use in our San Diego State dynasty. Also, added some. The HB Toss plays are pretty good. Tons of pass plays we use.
I do have one question and yes, I know this isn't '13 or '14. In those versions, there was a HB Stretch play where there was one WR on each side of the field. You could put one of them on the other side of the field to "clear it out" and run the stretch that direction. Is there a formation that this can be done in? I have looked all over.
Also, are there any tips or formations that you could hot route some linemen and/or tight ends to be more successful with a QB scramble?
Does anyone else feel that the pitch on the speed option plays are delayed a bit? I still do them pretty good, but most of the time for a split second, I am thinking that my RB is going to be in ICU for days.Comment
