Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)
I'm doing something like that. So far works great. 4 conf. home games 1st season (had 3 straight on the road middle of season), 5 conf. home games the 2nd season (alternating home and road every week). Did a test dynasty that worked good until year 3 when I flipped a couple of teams in the divisions around then all the bugs popped up. So as long as you don't do anything after initial setup I think it should work good.

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)
So i'll add my personal experience so far after the latest big scheduled patch.
So I played a full season after the latest big scheduled patch with all default conferences. Then made the custom conferences. Now i'm about to start the 3 season afterward, and I haven't seen any outlandish schedules come out like I had with an earlier separate dynasty save with custom conferences. The closest i've seen was a three game span for me with away games in the second season. Oh, and let me add, i did not add divisions within the conferences. So that parameter is where my "testing" lies. Custom conferences, no added divisions, and adjusted games played per conference.
Here's hoping things stay like this.HELLO BROOKYLN.

Kind of a dumb workaround, but add two teams to get to twelve, then turn off the CCG. Then move out the two you don't want. Should do the trickComment

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)
If you want divisions, what seems to work is conferences with 14 teams with two 7-team divisions. If you set it up this way with 8 conference games, what you will get is the following:
- Six games against division opponents.
- One "permanent" rival in the opposite division that you play every season. Oddly, this is decided based on alphabetical order. For example, if you try to redo SEC divisions, Florida (first alphabetically in the SEC East) plays Alabama (first alphabetically in the SEC West) every season; Arkansas always plays Georgia, Kentucky always plays Alabama, etc. (It's great that they have the opportunity to do permanent opponents...it'd be better to be able to control it.)
- One rotating home-away series with someone in the other division, that also seems to go in alphabetical order. To use the above example, Florida would play Arkansas in 2024-25, then Auburn in 2026-27, then LSU in 2028-29.
Although it's not perfect (the ability to select cross-divisional "rivals" would be great), it gives you a balanced schedule.
Any divisions with two 6-team divisions and 8 conference games (i.e., MAC, a recreated PAC-12) becomes unbalanced. I tried to recreate the PAC-12 and Oregon is especially wonky; often having only 4-5 conference games. My guess is that the game is trying to fit in all of the "future" games on the schedule. Because Oregon has all these Big 10 games, the schedule might overrides the PAC-12 schedule to force these games in....but only with 6-team divisions. When making a "PAC-14" (adding Boise St. to the North and SDSU to the South), those problems went away.
I haven't tried testing two 8-team divisions.
I will try making the other conferences 14 teams next offseason to maybe fix the wonky MAC and Pac-12 schedules.
Thanks!Comment

I'm going to test things out if i switch who in what division to see if that change things for their scheduling .Comment

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)
I do have a theory but need more testing. I was playing in a 7 team cusa with Kennesaw St for 6 seasons. After back to back playoff appearances I decided the Sec would recruit me and just simply trade spots with Vanderbilt, thinking the easy switch wouldn’t mess things up too much.
It completely ruined my Dynasty because in back to back seasons Kenn St played just 6 sec games, where everyone else was playing 8. When the 3rd season in Sec came and I had 6 SEC games again, I rage quit.
I believe that because I had a 6 game conference schedule in CUSA it followed me to the SEC.Comment

So is this an EA glitch to where you can't schedule OOC user games? Or what do you guys know about it? Any info would be greatly appreciated.Comment

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)
So the consensus is to not add divisions? We are entering year 4 of our current dynasty and would like to expand the PAC, but don't want to ruin schedules around the dynasty. If we expand the PAC and don't add divisions to it, everything should be okay?

Conferences with 10 or less teams work great. Just note divisions are not possible for conferences with 10 or less teams.
And lastly, you will want to avoid 12-team conferences. With or without divisions, some teams may play less conference games than what you set up under conference rules.Comment

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)
If you want to have 13 or more teams in a conference, then the way to go is to add divisions. This will guarantee every team plays the same number of conference games. Otherwise, some teams may play less conference games than what you set up under conference rules.

If you only have one or two 12-team conferences, then you may not have the problem. I believe the issue arises when you have 5 or more 12-team conferences.Comment
