    Heisman CPU vs CPU Sliders

I have always appreciated this community and the amazing slider sets it has created. I also was heavily into editing rosters (on my own, not the boards) with NCAA 14, but for now that shipped has sailed.

I decided this year to set out on my own and develop a set of sliders from scratch. I started with Heisman default sliders, and quickly realized that if this was my starting point, some drastic changes need to be made with certain sliders. I know that Zero Sliders are a hotly debated topic on these forums, but I truly believe there are a couple that absolutely need to set to zero to get the game to look decent on Heisman.

I am still tweaking my set with the patch, which caused QBs to hold the ball for far too long, leading to way too many coverage sacks. I think I’ve fixed that by lowering the Pass Block slider. I think my theory is that by lowering the Pass Block slider, QBs feel the pressure sooner and get rid of the ball earlier (but not all the time). I also think I need to adjust FG Power and Accuracy down a couple notches, as Field Goals seem almost automatic now. I also think the Kickoff Power is useless at any setting.

I still want to gather some stats on my new setting, but I think I’m close. What I’m trying to get are stats that mirror as closely as possible real-life stats. I gathered a few key stat areas and found the Maximum, Minimum, and Median team averages for 2023. I should expect most games to fall into those ranges, but I try not to freak out when I get outliers. If I start to see a pattern - ie way too many sacks post the recent patch - I try to pivot sooner.

I have seen blowouts, shootouts, shutouts, defensive battles, comebacks, turnover-filled games, sacked-filled games, penalty-filled games, penalty-less games, turnover-less games, sacked-less games, 300-yard rushing games, 300-yard passing games, long pass plays, long run plays, overthrows, dropped passes, stuffed runs, and many other scenarios we see every weekend in the fall.

I would love some feedback if anyone tries these, and if you have questions about other stats or things I have noticed, let me know. Here’s my set:

Re: Heisman CPU vs CPU Sliders

So this last patch has been super frustrating. The QB rolling to their non-dominant hand and getting sacked has become a serious problem with my original set of sliders. I decided to try some drastic changes to see what would happen. This includes setting the Adaptive AI to Aggressive for both coaches, and adjust the teams’ Offensive and Defensive Aggressiveness based on big plays for offense and sakcs and TFL for defense. I’m liking what I am seeing so far, but still want to do more testing. I’m also seeing many more cases where top teams are blowing out bottom feeders (ie Ohio St beat Akron 47-3).

I think there are a few things that will never be fixed. There will never be enough touchbacks on kickoffs, so starting field position will always be way worse that real life. However, punts tend to be shorter too, so I think these two offset.

I also set up my sliders to ‘encourage’ a running game. Now, most teams are averaging 100-120 yards, but have still seen some 200-300+ games for teams.

Changes are in the original post for anyone interested.
