    YEAR 9 USF PRESEASON PRESSER

First of all I would like to say that I am excited for another year as the South Florida Head Coach and we are ready to compete for the American Conference Title

    Last Season:
Last year was a disappointment because I felt like we underachieved. I put that solely on me for not having my team ready and not putting us in the best positions to win. Offensively we obviously struggled in the passing game with turnovers and despite the stats that Marlon put up we didn't run the football nearly enough. Defensively I thought we were solid but we needed to force more turnovers. Our offense put our defense in bad positions the whole year. You look at a game like UCF where we hold one of the top offenses to 23 points you would think we have a good chance to win that one but we only put 7 points on the board, we have to do better. We struggled against scrambling QBs and thats on the coaches for making adjustments too late in some of those games but we will fix that this year.

    Recruiting:
We were happy with our class. There was only one guy on our board throughout the year that we really wanted but couldn't wheel in, everyone else wants to be apart of what we're building and it will be on them. We got a juco transfer in Troy Vincent at RB who will play a big role next season when Marlon leaves, Nick Mills is a very talented WR out of Alabama who will be one of our go to guys next year as well, we got a few offensive linemen and we will continue to recruit in that area to build depth. Defensively Juco transfer Michael Burton was a key addition at DT and will start this year, Elton Wynn is a physical OLB that we signed who will get some time this year at MLB which is where he will probably stay, and we got a few DBs who should be good for us down the road. We also signed a punter and a kicker and have zero doubts about either.

    2016 Season:
This season starts and ends with Marlon. This is his team and this is his year. We have a new offensive coordinator and we think we've found an offense that will let him shine which will benefit us. Quinton Flowers will start at QB this year over Asiantii. Asiantii had a tough year last year but he was only a sophomore and he has improved, we feel like he is still our most talented QB but we think Quinton is the right move to start the year. This QB competition will be open all year until someone closes it. Rodney Adams is one of our Senior leaders and will still be our go to guy at WR. We expect his number to go up even tho we plan to run more. Our line isn't where we want it to be but we think this offense will help them as well. Defensively our strength will be our DBs this year. We think we can our stuff with these guys. Auggie Sanchez should have another big year at MLB.

We like our team and if we settle in on a QB I think we should have a solid season.

      YEAR 10 USF PRESEASON PRESSER

      LAST YEAR
The 2016-2017 USF team was probably the greatest team USF has ever put on the field. The stats were good, the rankings were good, the awards were good, but it was the way we finished games that stood out the most. We went into the year with a few gameplan goals and we never strayed away from them. The main goal was to make sure we never gave up on the running game and our persistence gave us a Heisman trophy winning RB in Marlon Mack. Our defense gets just as much credit for that trophy because you have to get stops to keep running the ball. We found our QB in Flowers, we had a underrated WR in Reed step up and earn a bigger role, we had a couple of LBs and a great SS step up and take ownership of our defense, we went undefeated in the AAC and won the conference, we made it to a BCS bowl game and competed for 4 quarters to give ourselves a chance at the end, and we put USF on the map.... great year for USF Football.

      RECRUITING
Our recruiting class finished ranked #12 but we didnt bring in the depth of talent that we thought we did. Brennan Williams is a star at RB and will break any records that Marlon sets if we can continue to build a strong Oline. He was rated the #1 RB in the country and he is every bit of #1. We had a Juco transfer WR end up being better than we expected and a freshman C who will be the leader of our line in the next few years. We landed Devin Smith the #6 QB who was supposed to be head to head with UCF's Ashton Nixon the #3 QB, but since the 2 have arrived on their respective campuses the major magazines and NFL scouts have said that Nixon will be a first round pick in the NFL when he leaves UCF. Smith will hope to win the head to head matchups in this rivalry but the QB comparisons end here. The rest of the class is fairly average but we like the kids we landed.

      THIS YEAR
We love our team this year. We didnt lose much from last year at so we feel like we've improved at every level. Flowers will have the keys to the offense again as our starting QB but the monster truck that he's driving will still be Marlon Mack who is the best RB in the country. With Mack returning for his senior year we have a huge bullseye on our back but our guys are ready. We will feature some new guys in our passing offense this year and one of those will be Rs SO Jordan Reed who went from deadly returner to playmaker on offense. We will find ways to get him the ball especially when teams key in on Mack. Defensively we will look very similar to last year but bigger stronger and faster. We feel like we're solid on all 3 levels and our guys are just ready to hit somebody.

      OVERVIEW
We have a tougher schedule than last year, particularly in the nonconference portion, but our eyes and focus will be on taking it one game at a time. We don't expect to go undefeated for the season but we do think we have the talent to go undefeated in our conference again so we have only 2 games circled on our schedule: UCF and the AAC Chanpionship. A team like this doesnt come around often so we have to take advantage.

        YEAR 11 USF PRESEASON PRESSER

        LAST YEAR
2017 was a tough year for us. We underachieved as a team and as a program from the coaches down to the players and we have alot a ground to cover to get back where we were the year before that. We felt like we had the pieces to make a run but our new offense didnt really work for the team we had out there and that was what started the snowball. Our defense could have played alot better especially at the end of games but we put them in bad positions over and over. We had issues at QB, we couldn't keep Marlon involved like wanted to, we weren't clutch at all, it was a bad year, we weren't proud of what we put on the field at all, and if we didnt have the talent we did it wouldnt have felt as bad but we just looked awful all year. As the coach I take the blame for it, we have to figure some things out going forward.

        RECRUITING
We had some needs that we wanted to address in last years class and to be honest we didn't. We got some solid guys but not enough and where we needed. Recruiting in Florida is tough when you're not winning football games. This class only gave us 1 guy who will get significant playing time this year and thats LT Charles Atkinson who will start for us. We felt like we needed some depth at LB and we were able to get a couple of guys who could be very good players for us in a year or 2 but they will be redshirted this year. Recruiting is an area that we take pride in so for us to pull in the 68th best class was not acceptable by our standards at all.

        THIS YEAR
We are going into 2018 optimistic. We have one of the best QBs in the country, one of the best young RBs, and a solid receiving core, we just have to find a way to make this offense work for us. Last year we took things one game at a time, this year we're going to take things one play at a time.

Offense - Flowers will likely get the start over Wheeler starting in week 1 against Ohio State only because he has a dynamic skill set. If he can be the QB he was 2 years ago instead of last year he will be the leader of this offense going forward but Wheeler has shown his leadership on the field already being thrown into tough spots all of last year. Williams will be the guy at RB and he has some help as well so he wont have to carry the ball 30 times a game but if he gets it going we think he can take over a game. We think our receiving core will be more productive this year if we work from the tight end then out because Dillon has been our most consistent player in the past 2 seasons. We also have a big time deep threat in Lil Reed who has recovered from his season ending injury last year. Our O-Line is pretty average but we think they will hold up in our conference.

Defense- We love the progress that our players have made on the defensive end and we think if we can generate turnovers this defense can be a top 25 defense by the end of the year. Our D-line has 3 seniors so we expect consistency regardless of what their ceiling is. Our LBs dont have the depth we would like but Danny Thomas is back and we expect a great senior season from him and we think Elton Wynn at MLB, who already has 2 years of solid playing time, will help our run defense even if we lose a step defending the pass. Wynn has been a solid tackler since he got on campus and that consistency is what we'll need this year. Our secondary is led by Devin Abraham who is the #1 rated FS in the country right now. He is the vocal leader of this team and we are excited to see what kind of season he has. The rest of the secondary is a little more skilled than athletic which is new for us because we've depended strictly on athleticism but we think that will allow Abraham to roam the field because he can cover alot of ground with his instincts.

Overall- We expect to have a much better season than last year. Our goal will be to protect the ball and give our defense a chance this season, we trust them to be clutch like they were 2 years ago. Without the explosive offense that we're used to we predict a 8-9 win season if we do what we're hoping to, if we lose focus and play from behind this might be a .500 type year like last season.
