Re: B1G 10
Nebraska or Wisconsin set to represent the B1G West... East still up for grabs, with Ohio State leading the Pack
Nebraska is currently sitting at 6-0 in B1G play, with Wisconsin right behind them at 3-2.
For Nebraska to get in, all they have to do is win 1 more game.
We'll see how the Cornhuskers will hold up in their final games, considering they will be missing 22 key players... They have their final home game against Northwestern... Then they have to go against Iowa, their rival, in Kinnick Stadium...
If Nebraska loses both it's final games, then a path opens for Wisconsin... Although Nebraska holds the head to head victory, Wisconsin lost to Mich St, in the East, so their West record could be better than Nebraska's. The only requirement? Wisconsin needs to win out. If Wisconsin wins @Minnesota @Illinois vs. Purdue, then they're in.
In The East
Ohio State (5-0), Penn State (3-2), Michigan State (3-2), Michigan (3-3)
The Buckeyes remaining schedule? Vs. Penn State @ Indiana @ Michigan.
If Ohio State wins 2 of 3, then they're in.
But if they lose to Penn State.... Then the B1G East is really all up in the air between Ohio State and 3 other teams... Those three teams? Penn State, Michigan State, and Michigan.
If Ohio State beats Penn State, It's between OSU and Mich St. OSU would still have to beat either Indiana or Michigan, assuming Mich St wins out against Rutgers, Penn State, and Maryland. Why? Because Mich St has two B1G losses, one to Illinois, one to Ohio St. So if Ohio State finishes with 2 losses in their own division against Indiana and Mich, then Mich St gets in because Illinois is in the West.
If Ohio State loses to Penn State, then beats Indiana... Then Michigan is cut off, and it's just between Ohio State, Mich St and Penn State. For Ohio State to make it to the B1G in this scenario, all they would have to do is beat Michigan, but if they lose, then the winner between Penn State and Michigan State gets in, if the respected winner wins all their other games.
Now this is going to sound crazy, but if Ohio State loses to Penn State and Indiana, then there is actually a path for Michigan, but things would have to go mad.
For Michigan? This scenario is the most insane, but technically, it's possible. Ohio State needs to go on a three game losing streak, obviously, losing to Penn State, Indiana, and Michigan themselves. The game between Penn State and Michigan State? Michigan State would have to win that one. Penn State would then have to LOSE to Indiana... However, for Mich St, they would have to finish the season 1-2... Their sole win coming against Penn State, but their two losses? vs. Rutgers and @ Maryland. That would put Michigan and Ohio State at an even 5-3 in conference play, but since one of Michigan's losses was to Nebraska, in the West, they get in!... Plus they hold the tie-breaker, but who cares haha. Yeah, crazy, but possible.
No matter how you spin it, it should be an interesting finish in the B1G this season.Last edited by Dj2360; 07-28-2017, 04:35 PM. -
Re: B1G 10
Nebraska Football Pre-Season Outlook
Nebraska, the winners of the B1G Championship and Rose Bowl, look to make a National Championship run this year.
Coach Don Jonpin: "We've got a lot of talent in the backfield this year with John and Tre returning, we've got some new faces on the offensive line, young linebackers and interior defensive lineman, experienced ends, an experienced secondary, and an experienced WR Core... But we've got a new guy taking the reigns at QB, big shoes to fill with O'Brien going to The League... But we really believe this could be our year... Our goal is a National Championship, and we'll do everything to achieve it."
Nebraska comes into this season slated with non-conference match-ups against Miami and Florida (back-to-back matchup, lost last year, this time Nebraska will be at home)... If they can win one or both of these games, that will make their National Title hopes much clearer, especially if they win both.
Key Returning Starters
HB John Watson (Heisman Finalist)
HB Tre Bryant
WR J.D. Speilman
T Matt Farniok
C John Raridon
DE Christian Jude
DE Van Lawson
CB Lamar Jackson
CB Dicaprio Bootle

Re: B1G 10
The B1G, who came into 2020 with high expectations, has drastically under performed as a whole... However, Nebraska and Ohio State still give the conference a legitimate shot at a National Championship.
B1G Standings
East
Michigan (6-1) 3-0
#5 Ohio State (4-2) 2-0
#14 Penn State (5-2) 2-1
Maryland (3-4) 2-1
Michigan State (2-4) 1-1
Rutgers (4-2) 1-2
Indiana (1-5) 0-2
West
#3 Nebraska (6-1) 4-0
Iowa (7-1) 3-1
Wisconsin (2-4) 1-1
Northwestern (5-2) 1-2
Illinios (4-2) 0-2
Purdue (1-5) 0-3
Minnesota (1-5) 0-4
Let's start with the sick and nasty of the B1G this season
A ranked Wisconsin dropped 3 non-conference games, 2 of them being mid-major schools.
A ranked Michigan squad lost to UCF, handily.
Michigan State, a team with mediocre expectations, dropped 3 non-conf games.
Penn State got embarrassed by Oregon.
now that we've got that out of the way, lets dig right into the B1G's positives this season
Nebraska beat Florida and Baylor, two formidable non-conference opponents.
Although Ohio State lost to Oklahoma and North Carolina, they are poised to finish in the top 5 this season...
Iowa has been succeeding, though without much recognition...
Michigan, outside of their loss to UCF, has been good.
Penn State is still in contention.
So which teams are likely to meet in Indianapolis?
Well, the safest answer is Nebraska and Ohio State, a rematch of last years B1G Championship...
However, these teams still have a shot!
Michigan, Penn State, and Iowa could all legitimately get into the B1G CCG as well.
For the B1G West, it all starts and ends in the Heroes Trophy game. mark this date on your calender: Week 14 (Nov 25), Iowa @ Nebraska...
For the B1G East, it's a three-way round robin between Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State... These three teams are yet to play one another in the season, and whoever can come out on top will represent the B1G... Expect "The Game" to be huge for the B1G...
So essentially, most of our questions in the B1G this year will all be answered on November 25, 2020.Last edited by Dj2360; 08-31-2017, 10:26 AM.Comment

If both teams win in rivalry week, this game will decide who is represented in the BCS National Championship Game.
Ohio State is filled with talent... Their DE's, Nick Bosa and Jonathan Cooper, are arguably the best duo in the nation (Ironically, Nebraska's combination of Christian Jude and Van Lawson is probably the only one that rivals them)... Yes, The Bucks dropped two games to Oklahoma and North Carolina; but don't be deceived, this team is strong... Led offensively by RB Demario McCall, they have a bulldozing effect on opponents, and their offensive line is improving week in and week out. Ohio State, who struggled in their passing game early in the year, has begun to click more fluently in recent weeks... This will be a huge factor when they face Nebraska... Offensively, they rank high in yardage per game, and points per game... They are also complimented by a good defense as well... If their talented QB Dwayne Haskins Jr. can find some rhythm, this game could be high scoring... Ohio State still remembers in detail last years 49-7 whooping they received from Nebraska, and will be playing with a chip on their shoulder; as well as a shot at a National Championship...
Nebraska enters their final game against Iowa having only given up an average of only 7.5 points per game through the past four games. Incredible consistency is the staple of this team... They have the #1 defense (scoring and yardage), the #1 rushing defense, and a top 10 passing defense... This defense is led by DE's Van Lawson and Christian Jude... As well as SS Dennis Hargrove, and CB Lamar Jackson... Everyone just mentioned is 1st or 2nd round draft picks... Talent wise, this team stacks up to Ohio State in every category... If I had to give either team an edge, Neb would be more talented defensively, and Ohio State offensively... Anyways, Nebraska's offense is led by Junior QB Eric Brown, and Workhorse John Watson... They also have talent at Fullback, a young man generally overlooked, named Travis Pitts. He'll play on Sundays. Nebraska's O-line is led by John Raridon, who is on course to win The Outland Trophy, and The Rimington Trophy... John Raridon is without a doubt, the most talented Offensive lineman in college football... There is actually speculation he will be picked with the first overall pick in the draft. Nebraska is looking to compete for a National Championship... So don't be surprised if they come into this game against the Buckeyes with aggression, and determination.

B1G 10
B1G Pre-Season Outlook
Nebraska hopes to win their third B1G title in a row, en route to another National Championship Run. But not if Ohio State or Penn State have anything to say about it.
B1G Power Rankings - Preseason
1. Nebraska
They have talent, and lots of it. Although they lost some key starters to the draft last year, this team has simply re-loaded, and is even more talented in the backfield this year (shocker)... The RB duo of John Watson and Tre Bryant was deadly, but this years duo of Michael Montgomery and John Watson is even better. Both Watson and Montgomery are Red-shirt Seniors, and want nothing less than to bring another National Championship to this Nebraska program. Losing Christian Jude and Van Lawson at the Defensive End position was a big hit for this teams defensive line... But Defensive Linemen Eric Hughes and Andy Higdon hope to fill in their shoes. Safeties Paul Ortiz and Douglas Hargrove return for their senior seasons. MLB Simeon Bass also returns for his Senior run. Brian Hill, the stud TE from South Dakota, is back for his senior year as well. This team has a tough schedule with Alabama, Miami, Baylor, and Ohio State... But Eric Brown hopes to lead this team to another B1G title.
2. Ohio State
The Buckeyes return Junior QB Eric Setzer. Their defense looks very strong, with arguably the deepest, most talented defensive line in the nation. LB's Ryan Simon, Garrett Sanders, Jeff Richardson, and Abraham Singleton all return, giving them even more strength in their front 7. Maybe the strongest front 7 in the nation. Their secondary is definitely in question though... It will be interesting how this team fares against pass first opponents, because even with their strength up front, their secondary seems to be extremely weak... Only 2 Seniors in their secondary, and that's their FS and SS. Not a single senior CB on thier roster, mainly FR and SO. Their schedule should be interesting, not a lot of room for error. They host North Carolina, then go to Nebraska, and then the B1G East.
3. Penn State
The Nittany Lions actually look poised to make a deep run with their schedule. Their toughest non-conference opponent is Pitt... They go to Wisconsin in week 6, but if they win that, they should be undefeated when they face the Buckeyes in Columbus, in week 12. They've got a guy at RB named Anthony Terrell, don't be surprised if he makes some noise. Unlike Ohio State, they're littered with talent in their secondary, specifically at CB.
4. Wisconsin
These Badgers have one goal in mind, and that's to run the football. They've got star RB Phillip Wallace, senior, leading the way. Their offensive line isn't as talented as we're used to seeing at Wisconsin, but with Wallace, they'll be fine. Strength at WR should make this team interesting to defend against. Week 1 they open up at Washington, so their aren't any breaks for this team.
(T)5. Northwestern
A strong finish last season propelled this team to #5, tied with Michigan. In week 3 Northwestern hosts #6 Notre Dame.... That game will be the biggest game for this team in the past decade, and the result should make the picture more clearer of what this teams made of. This team is led by a strong offensive line and Senior RB, and future NFL player, Kyle Flowers.
(T)5. Michigan
Tied with Northwestern, this team is led by Senior center Joe Marshall, and a strong offensive line overall. RB Patrick Ross is hoping to make some noise in the B1G as well. Talent wise, Michigan may be the only other team in the B1G that can stand toe to toe with Ohio State and Nebraska, especially in the front 7, defensively. No complaints in their secondary as well. It should be interesting, given how much talent this team has, to see how they fare this year. Also, Michigan hosts all their big games. Wisconsin, Penn State, and Ohio State, ALL AT HOME! Should be lit AF in the Big House.
7. Michigan State
Sparty gets the 7th spot... You've gotta tip your hat to Mark Dantonio, and considering how strong their offensive line will be this year, compared to recent years; You gotta wonder if they'll make a run this year? They host Michigan, but have to travel to Columbus, and Penn State.
8. Iowa
Iowa is always pretty balanced, and this year is no exception. With strength in the backfield (FB and RB), we'll see if they can continue pounding away... Their secondary is good as well. Their big tests are week 7 @ OSU, week 8 vs Wisconsin, and week 14 vs Neb.
9. Minnesota
Minnesota, as weird as it sounds, has a top 5 Defensive line in the conference (talent wise). This D-line is the strength of this Golden Gophers squad. If they can keep their composure and not turn the ball over, they could finish 8-4.
10. Rutgers
Yeah, Rutgers, that's right. They have literal strength in their backfield, no lie, at RB... They also have strong LB's... If they play true to their talent, more of a rugged, physical style of play, they could be good.
11. Purdue
They play Missouri and Pitt out of conference, and then B1G play. Their pretty balanced overall, with TE as thier best position. LB's on defense are good too.
12. Illinois
It was kind of a toss up between the Illini and the Terrapins. But Illinois wins, because they're led by Senior QB Darell Holloway, who stands at 6'5. They also have good DE's.
13. Maryland
They're pretty balanced overall. They are led by senior QB Dennis Smith. Hopefully a breakout season can happen for this Maryland program that hasn't seen much success in the past decade.
14. Indiana
Their offense is majorly lacking. If their defense can keep them in games, then maybe they can have a winning record.Last edited by Dj2360; 09-28-2017, 10:40 AM.Comment

Re: B1G 10
Ohio State finished last season as a top 5 team. A few great drives to end games made them a 12 win team and big 10 champs. Realistically that team was at best on the lower ranked top 25 team. The outlook this year is very similar and possibly a bit worse with the talent that has departed. This coaching staff will again have their hands full with some young talent.
QBs- Grade A...Tony Evans will be back for his sr year. A great passer with a knack for avoiding pressure with great knowledge of the game. Chris Hampton will be the backup that possesses similar talent although has taken few reps.
Rbs- Grade B+....Sr Brett Mays will more than likely continue to split carries with So Raymont Harris Jr. Mays is a bit more shifty and a little faster while Harris uses more power in is game. A stable of unproven backs wait in the wings with Marcus Montgomery, Deshawn Wiley and Kyle Springs. Kyle Springs is the lead fr to possibly take any meaningful snaps. He has the speed and build of his father Shawn Sorings and the running style of grandfather Ron Springs, ball security is the main issue here.
Wrs Grade D+....This group again will have young undeveloped talent that lacks big play ability. Last year they had problems with separation which may rear its ugly head again. Davis was the slot guy last year this year he will bump to the outside mainly with his speed. He may be moved back to the slot if he struggles early. The 2nd option will feature Mj Williams and Lawrence Coles, both have good to great hands and above average route running ability but lack the true speed to be anything more than possession receivers. Alexander coming off a rs year will try to break into the lineup being maybe the most balanced wr of the bunch. His size speed route running combo is there but he has to limit drops and learn on the fly. Pete Hefner, Raymond Foster, and fr Jeff Graham Jr will all compete to play each brings a specific skill set to compliment the group but struggled last year to create separation and hold onto the ball. Largely this entire group may be a revolving door to see who can separate.
Tes- Grade C+. Kyle Scott whom played a lot last year has big shoes to fill with Jenkins gone. Scott is not the same player as Jenkins but has solid hands and will be asked to really help out the pass game. The other two tes are merely run blockers and will split time depending on the defensive style.
Oline- Grade B.....With 3 of the starting 5 gone from last year including all American Tatum this group may struggle early but has enough options and depth to carry this team. Rivera starting guard last year will bump to left tackle, although a bit short for the position he has the best blend of what we ask out Lt to do. The right tackle position is up for grabs and will be an open competition between rs fr Devin Browning brother of former tackle Baron Browning, soph Michael Boone cousin of Alex Boone, Fr Leshon Daniels, rs soph Eric Williams who will also compete at guard. All these guys are big just not as strong as this coaching staff would like and are subpar in the balance of blocking. The guard position on the left side will be manned by Rs Jr Maurice Callahan whom kicks over from center, the right side will be competitive again with rs fr lance Harris, rs jr Larry Britt and Fr Adam Groves. Groves looks to have a small lead in practice but being only 266 we don’t know if his strength will overcome his size. Center will feature last years starter Jordan McAfee with Fr Sam Carter set to step in at any given point. Overall this group should be fine.
Defensive Ends Grade C-...This group is full of big guys that lack pass rushing as a group. Rs Sr Ray Mcloud, Soph Dennis Davis, Rs Soph Eric Gholston, David Riley, and Justin Davidson will all play. Riley and Davidson are the only pass rushers so scheming to generate pressure will be important.
Dts Grade B..... This group doesn’t feature a standout but will be a bit better than last year. One spot is locked up by Sr Evan Nichols who has solid ability but may lack strength against some of the stronger guards and centers. Jr Adam Carpenter, Soph Alex Ross, and Sr Chase Smith all competing for the off tackle. Ross and Carpenter are very similar in what they can do which one that learns the position faster will have a leg up. True Freshman Bj Bell may be the sleeper of the bunch if he can improve quickly he can easily move to the top of the depth chart.
Olbs, Grade C+.....This is a group that will reinvent themselves with the loss of Green and Dixon. Sr. Nick Stevens although undersized has the speed and ability to compete. Jr. Matt Pearson showed ability in spots last year but is also undersized, he is the best lb in coverage so it may be hard to keep him off the field. Soph Zac Reed and Sr Conrad Price look to get in the mix, these guys are big and strong they have knowledge of the d and have played. The major problem is the lack of speed. This group has a lot to prove and will be a work in progress throughout the year.
MLB Grade D.... Sr Chris Johnson will be a first year starter. He plays the run well he is good in coverage but a lack of speed at times will show. There is no depth or experience behind him.
CBS Grade C.....This group was supposed to take a big step forward but the loss of Watson and Duncan deciding to transfer left this staff scrambling. Leroy Gilmore will be leaned upon to lock down one side which is not his game. Fr Jordan Fox will be the boundary corner. Young with speed and decent coverage ability should be a star in the making as he progresses. Jr Kyle Gordon will play the Viper position, he is developing in all areas.
Fs Grade B...Bryant Ellis is back for his Jr year. He has a chance to be the best player on this team, the perfect blend of speed size and overall ability should have this guy making huge plays. He will have to cover up the defects on this defense. The downsize is nothing behind him.
Ss Grade C.... Mike Doss Jr will take over for Waller who decided to leave after his rs soph season. Doss a rs Fr will be expected to do a lot of what Ellis does, he has the capability but may be to much for this young kid to handle. Rs Jr Justin Stewart may play in different situations but he is more a special teams player.
Special Teams Grade C-....This team will be relying on young players all over. The Kicking game will be a work in progress in practice our longest kick has been 37 yards. Overall punt team and kickoff team both lack speed to make a true difference. The kickoff return and punt return team should be improved if this staff can find a reliable option at returner.
Overall we always compete to go to the big game, realistically we are a 8-9 win team. This staff will expect to be right there in the championship picture though. This season will hinge on wr play, the run game should be solid, the defense not as talented as last year should have enough to keep this team in games. With Evans leading the way and a couple of Wrs playing good ball we will have a shot, if the d slips and wrs play like last year each game will be a grind!

Re: B1G 10
Ohio State coming off a 12-2 for the 2nd straight year looks to build off of last years national championship team. This years version will look to replace 7 new starters 3 on offense and 4 on defense which shouldn’t be a problem as the rotation from last year has new guys ready to step up. Overall this team is slightly better than last years but will have more depth. In the grand scheme of things we are not where we need to be talent wise. A realistic expectation is again 12-2 possibly 11-3, a brutal schedule to start with Auburn and then a huge task with Miami on the road. Without further ado.....
QBs= c- With star qb Evans gone it leads to one man and one man only. The cousin of former qb Troy Smith, rs soph Derrick Smith will have control of the offense. Having never taken a snap this position is make or break right from the get go. He possesses decent mobility, above average arm strength and good accuracy. However standing 6’ and 223 he is not as strong as the staff would like. If he can limit mistakes he should be ok in this offense. Behind smith is true freshmen Craig Krenzal and Corey Callahan to say these two aren’t ready to play would be an understatement.
Rbs= B+ Raymont Harris Jr is back for his junior year and will figure to be the bell cow. The perfect blend of speed and power he will ultimately be leaned upon for huge things. Sophomore Kyle Springs figures to be next in line. The kid has speed to burn and will have opportunities to be a big part of the offense. Rs Freshman Deshawn Wiley and Marcus Montgomery may see some mop up duty but neither will get significant touches until proven otherwise. True Fr Carlos Snow Jr has the makings to be a star will be red shirted unless absolutely needed.
Wrs= C Mj Williams is back as a Rs Junior and looks to regain a starting spot after largely being a rotational player last year. He possesses great size, catching ability and route running but his lack of speed keeps him from becoming great. Sr Brett Davis the only real speed burner in this group will lineup all over trying to create mismatches. The leading receiver should have a solid year if Smith performs well. Rs Juniors Pete Heffner, Raymond Foster, true freshman Bradley Jenkins and Rs Freshman Jeff Graham Jr will a compete to play for starting spots. True freshman Chris Sanders and Lamar Carter will redshirt to round out the group. More talent than the last 2 years but still young and unproven as a group.
Tes = B+ Kyle Scott is back and will likely be the security blanket for Smith. Casey Banks will play a lot but is unproven at this point.
Oline A- The oline will be largely intact from last year and be the strength of this team. Mike Boone, Maurice Callahan, Larry Britt, and Lance Harris will hold down there respective spots while right tackle will be a battle between Leshun Daniels and Devon Browning both young guys.
Dline B, a unit led by Dennis Davis and David Riley at the end spots along with 4-5 others that will get a shot. Andre Carpenter a transfer from last year will start day one along with Alex Ross with little depth behind them.
Lbs C+ Matt Pearson will man an outside spot along with either Zac Reed or Charles Duncan with Reed having the most experience.
Mlbs C- Cj grant was a late flip from Auburn and will start right away, with no one behind him he must play well.
Dbs C Fox and Gordon will be the starters with Fox leading the way. Safety will feature Ellis for a 3rd straight season should have another outstanding year. Doss will be at Ss he needs to have a good year for this defense if they except to do anything great....
(I really wanted to take more time on this, but my phones about to die and I’m late to the party!)
