Just wanted to add I've done something for years that was added to madden this year that helps when running, skills trainer calls it the "hat count" or something but basically count up the defenders in the box and see if you have a running advantage of not. If there's 9 guys in the box running might not be the best option.

Exactly. If I run a play out of the pistol or Gun, it seems like from snap to handoff just takes FOREVER. Much less trying to get your back going once he FINALLY gets the ball.

Also the CPU defense will actually key in on plays of you run the same ones consistently. Mixing it up does help as well. I use Eddie Lacy and running outside was usually a no go lAst year. this year running outside early doesn't lead to success but if I'm running inside and start getting stuffed I can run a toss play and see defenders crashing inside. Pretty rewarding to see that and be able to outsmart the cpu.

      This is not a test.

Re: Can We Talk About The Running Game?

On all pro default using the Chiefs through ten play now games I was getting between 80 to 120 rushing yards per game. The CPU was getting 45 to 70 so I upped the CPU run blocking to 60 and now it's playing great. I also lowered CPU and Human tackling to 40. Makes for more realistic broken tackles.

I was playing the Eagles and I had Murray in the back field, he spun out of the tackle, the stiff armed my other defender and took it 76 yards to the end zone. It was a thing of beauty.

You could still use tackling for that but then cpu WRs will be a little overpowered.I always raised cpu run blocking instead to get better cpu running

as someone else said mixed results! some days no running game at all by me and CPU some days a huge game and some days a bit in the middle, that's how it should be!! Dynamic gameplay realism!! just like MLB the show is I don't think I have to touch the sliders at all for running game the CPU broke a huge 80 yard run against me with Girly

Re: Can We Talk About The Running Game?

in my Eagles franchise playing on all pro I found the run game way too easy. i go over 100 every game usually with less then 20 carries and even broke the single game rush record. so i kept lowering the run block slider as the season went on. but my success still continued. went on to break the record for rushing yards in a season even with the run blocking slider set at zero. now maybe thats cause the Eagles have a great run game, i dont know. havent used any other backs besides Murray.

the run game definitely takes practice and to be honest a lot of skill. I seemed to get better every game. used to run into my own players and lose yards a lot. but now because of familiarity with both the controls and the playbook i can dominate. its one thing to become an expert at avoiding your blockers/hitting the hole but its another to know when and how to use the different moves at your disposal like the lethal double juke which i use practically every run. my advice is to practice practice practice. and maybe trade for demarco murray...

as for the CPU run game, I have their run blocking at 100 and its still very rare for them to have a big game against me. the only time it seems to happen is when the CPU players get the drive goals bug and become unstoppable. its either they get no yards or theres no way to stop them, basically.

Re: Can We Talk About The Running Game?

I worked on my running game a lot last year and found some tricks to help in the backfield.

Hold L2 when receiving the hand off behind the line. This is the precision modifier and gives you more control over subtle movements.

If you notice that the hole is not where it is intended to be and you need to be able to move over to a new opening quickly/efficiently w/out losing control of your ball carrier, this is the best trick for you.

Holding L2 will provide you with the ability to make jump cuts behind the LOS (hold L2 and the direction desired R/L) without using the Juke stick.

I will use this (L2) behind the LOS and while following blockers and hit the R2/speed burst button as soon as a hole opens up.

I have found this method to be EXTREMELY successful and realistic in M15 and am finding the same this year in M16!

This is beneficial because you allow for the play to develop and holes to open in front of you while maintaining control with the RB. When you see the hole open, you then accelerate through it and leave the defenders chasing.

I love the running this year. WAY LESS running straight not the back of the OL and tripping. Cuts seem smooth you have to make good reads I'm loving it

Re: Can We Talk About The Running Game?

The FB dive seems MUCH easier this year than last...so much so that if you dont shoot a gap with the LB or S instantly you have no chance.

Again this is because of the improved logic and ball carrier animations which are great, but D Line play still isn't where it needs to be.

Can We Talk About The Running Game?

I was having all these problems, 20 carries for 40 yards with Jamaal Charles etc..

And then I changed the camera on both sides of the ball from Zoom to standard.. All problems solved for me.. I can actually make reads on throws and runs now. Defense is also light years easier now.

If some of you are having trouble and haven't messed with the camera views then try it.

I've only been able to play 5 complete games (all pro) so far and my run game was horrible. I think I rushed for 50 yards once. I was averaging 2.5 or less ypc

This morning before I left for work I was able to play one half and rushed for more yards in the one half! 69 in 12 carries. Laying off sprint mocked a huge difference. When I get home I will work more on using L2 also.

A lot of people don't realize that holding turbo as soon as you get the ball is actually a disadvantage. Allow the offensive line to block for you, create holes for you, then once you get into that second level, BOOM! Turbo IMO should never be used by the HB behind the LOS... great runningbacks have patience, and look for a running lane. But many of us have never played football in real life so we don't know how it works.

Run a power play and when your guard is pulling, and the safety is in pursuit to you, using turbo will make you outrun the pulling guard, and leave you one on one with the defender. Whereas, not holding turbo and following your blocker, it'll be a 2 on 1 situation and once that block is made, hit the turbo button and run for the pylon.

Exactly. It's just like in real football, running backs need to be patient and wait for their blocks to set up before they go full speed. It's just about perfect, IMO.

Running in Draft Champions is pretty useless because you only have 4 min quarters and this year you are not going to gain 6 yards on each play and I think that's how it should be.

When I play Head to Head, I can pretty much run over anybody. Melvin Gordon, Jamal Charles, Jeremy Hill, Bell and AP have had really good games for me and/or my opponent on H2H online. Gurley is a beast too.

So if you're only playing Draft Champions, that might be why you're not having success with the running game.

However, can someone please tell me how to stiff arm?

It is the most used move in real life; it happens in almost every run, however, I have yet to see anyone use the stiff arm.

I read someone that there's no a button for it anymore, but I have yet to see it in any situation.

Did they take it out of the game completely?

                              Thanks,
