ALSO, I just remembered this from last year after messing around in owner mode. Last year regression was an issue too (but more age related), with a guy like Palmer dropping -12 in every THA category after year 1.
In my limited time with the game last year I recalled that signing a "world class" trainer as an owner helped water down these massive regression issues. Of course there aren't enough world class trainers to go around, so it only really fixes it for the user team.
Just now, going into the staffing part of owner mode the initial help screen popped up and it stated "Trainers determine how much a player's ratings drop when he comes back from a serious injury."
Basing off of the fact that last year the injury part didn't matter, I am going to assume the same can be said for this year. Even though it claims it only matters for a guy coming off of a serious injury, I am willing to bet that all player regression is linked to your trainer and his "regression" rating, regardless of injuries.
So that's my theory. Those of you seeing big drops in ratings, try going into owner mode and hiring a world class trainer to see if it helps resolve the issue.
Also keep in mind that maybe injuries do have something to do with it, but the game doesn't really differentiate between serious injuries. Meaning that if your QB gets injured for 2 quarters when it comes to the regression at the end of the season it treats it just like a ruptured disc injury.
