Been playing the game more now that the mlb playoffs are over. I've been enjoying the game more since i started visiting here less.

I have to disclose that I am an NCAA game fan way more than Madden, but the game plays fairly well. I still feel like scripting is there, and some game feels blah. I do not play MUT anymore, but my online league with my buddies is still going strong.

The problem for me is that franchise mode is boring. I cannot get into like I used to the NCAA game. No feel. No true story. Overall, 6.5 out of 10.

The problem with this is, we have been told for the last two years now, they have put most resources into CFM than ever...and its not really improved in a manner to match that over the last two years. So i dont know how much more of a focus they can put into it . Which in reality is the most disappointing thing of all.Knowing this is basically the best they can do , and its very lack luster in many ways.

Gap play and zones are the only ones that really hit for me and even then the zones didn't really seem very effective until the second patch. But the ball-carrier moves were clunky and not much of an improvement. Tackle battle was a terrible decision. Special teams improvements were welcomed but the fact that kicks were still automatic (for me) at release and were made easier killed that. The scripted nature of blocks wasn't a good idea IMO either. As for CFM practice squad was nice but the lack of even having proper eligibility rules was a bit mindblowing. Gameplanning was a good idea but the fact that it only tracks one down of the previous game pretty much killed the purpose of it. Play The Moment was something that seemed to work so that was a definite hit. Wasn't my cup of tea but I never had any issues with it in my time playing. But throw all that on top of the legacy issues (terrible OL play, Robo QB, etc.) and some new issues (statue QB's, too many throwaways, punting into the wind) and this year was a bad year IMO.

I totally agree with everything you said here DueceDouglas . Sadly, its rather disappointing at this point . Really makes it hard to listen to them at all pre launch anymore to be honest, knowing things will just get changed. We need options like sim mode and working sliders , outside of that, i just dont feel that good about the future of the title , knowing the casuals will always win out.

And for the record, im not at all against the casuals getting gameplay they enjoy also.I get there are a ton of people who play madden and want an arcade game.Thats fine, i say provide them that.Just give those who dont want it to play that way an option to not be forced to play that way, just as i dont think the casuals should be forced to play how we want to play. Options, options, options is what it needs.

And its not like EA does not make enough profits off madden and madden mobile that they cant afford to do this and still make millions upon millions. Its an initial investment that ,in the long run, would generate more sales of the game and thus make them even more money than they are making now.

The game has been reverted back with patches that now I can't tell the difference between M17 and M16...Really, outside of the new zones, this game has dropped in quality and now I would give it more of a 6.5-7 rating from a previous ~8.5.

Also, I will throw this is too, I would gladly take a game that has known gameplay issues but has an outstanding franchise mode full of features and just an overall good system, than what we have now.

Gameplay for me comes first and foremost and then franchise mode is the icing on the cake, but that is me.

IMO I think they wanted/tried to do too much this year and it resulted in too many things being implemented that felt unfinished. Using the WR/DB stuff from 16 as an example, it definitely had it's issues but the positives greatly outweighed the negatives. But with 17 it feels like almost everything has this huge "yeah, but" that is hard for me to ignore and I think it's partly to do with the their lack of a true direction or identity. Madden wants to be more than just a football game and appeal to every person out there but then it also wants to become a major eSports title all while also boasting it's path to being an "authentic football simulation."

Maybe this year was just a bad year which is unfortunate because outside of QB play, M17 can play really well and is a fun game. CFM is still by far the worst franchise mode I've ever played and will continue to be stagnated by poorly fleshed out features but I still think that, despite the patch/tuner issues this year, gameplay is still on the right track. I think an expanded, working slider system would do wonders for gameplay on so many levels and hopefully that's something that they realize will greatly aid in bridging the divide between the different groups of players.

I honestly cannot see how anyone that plays Franchise against the CPU and takes it seriously can say they enjoy it. How can anyone enjoy 25 yd punts and 60 yd FG attempts by the CPU team when you know there is no possible chance they can make it? How can you enjoy having to punt from deep in your own territory into the wind knowing the CPU team is going to get the ball on your 40 yd line with the game on the line? If this does not bother you, then you have to be an arcade player because there is no possible way that it even begins to represent real FB. Many things can be adjusted with sliders, at least to make it somewhat realistic and playable. But this issue can't. And for myself, it completely ruins franchise mode. Until this is fixed, IF EVER, this game is just a very expensive coaster.

Madden is one of the few games where I only buy it to play online h2h multiplayer. With that being said, I have really enjoyed Madden 17, probably the most fun i've had with Madden since Madden 05. The gameplay mechanics (to me) are the best they've been in quite a while. Running feels great. Being able to take control of the ball carrier, pace myself, weave around blocks and then hit that sprint button and take off is really fun. Passing is OP with the right reads, but at least Aggro-catch got nerfed compared to last year for the most part. It's just an all around fun experience for me. I have over 200 h2h games played this year and I don't see myself slowing down anytime soon. I just try my best to balance Madden playing time with NBA 2k playing time

As for the offline/league experiences, I cannot speak on the pros/cons of those modes as I don't play those. I literally only buy Madden to play online h2h with my friends and randoms. I played MUT from M25 - M16 but I quit/retired in the middle of MUT 16 as it just got stale to me. But the gameplay of this year's game keeps pulling me back in.. not sure why, but it does.

I don't get why some people are seeing 25 yard punts. I have seen nothing shorter then like 27 yards and most punts are 40-50 like real life. I only see punts below 30 once in a while like once ever several games. I have yet to see the CPU try a FG over like 57 yards.

Cmon, Cleve, no need to sling around "arcade player" stuff, you are better than that. I don't have the punting issue when I am inside a dome or when I sim to the next play.

I've told you a few times now the punting issue is fixed and I've also told you in another thread the timeline for title updates.

That process and timeline by EA won't change no matter how many times people post their disgust in different threads.

Once the honeymoon phase wore off I came to feel the game was still the same old Madden. Outdated animations. Horrible line play, QBs are just way too accurate. Franchise mode is still pretty stale and the UI is just bad. Franchise mode should make you feel immersed in the league but Madden hasn't done a good job at that since the original Xbox/PS2 days. The current team has brought the game a long way, I just feel it still has a long way to go.

Re: Almost 4 months since launch, what do you all think about this game?

Roadman, Please explain to me how you are simming punts because I have tried a hundred times and it still results the same distance, You just don't visualize it. Simming doesn't change the outcome. Maybe because you don't see it, it isn't as frustrating. But it is to me. If this worked, I would be happy and live with it, but unless I am doing something wrong, simming don't change it.

Obviously it isn't a punting problem, it is a wind problem, Anyone playing Franchise against the CPU has to experience it. If the wind is 9 MPH or more, you will see line drive punts rather you are kicking or the CPU is kicking into the wind. Of course in a dome, you don't see it, except in Miami. I had a 12 mph wind in a half domed stadium. I have tried over and over to restart games trying to get the wind under 8 mph, I might get it once out of ten tries.

I guess it don't bother other people as much as it does me, Like QB accuracy drives them crazy, I have my QB's ave around 65 to 67%, Good QB's are much better than the bad ones, That can be adjusted by sliders and messing with QB styles and ratings.

I have tried lowering the Kickers acc and power before a game hoping they will not try long ridiculous FG's, Worked great, But then Kick offs fall way to short against the wind. I have set CPU teams punter and his power rating to 99 and punting power in the game play settings to 99.. It worked great against the wind, But when they had the wind with them, they would punt it 90+ yds.

I have spent hours upon hours testing, adjusting, fixing, I don't mind that at all, But this punting thing is just something I can't fix. I have got the game playing to almost perfection, or as close and realistic as I can get it for my personal preferences. Except for the kicking game, And it stands out like a sore thumb.

The kicking game is an extreme element and function of a FB game. Games can be won or lost depending on punters and kickers. They can completely change the outcome of a game. Obviously EA doesn't see it that way.
