Maybe: If the vast majority of players are only playing a season or two and quitting/restarting then it explains why EA really has no incentive to focus on progression on draft etc.

But Maybe: The vast majority of players are only playing a season or two and quitting/restarting because EA has not focused on progression on draft etc.

I dont know which it is.

Edit: This is now very off topic.

Blocking in general. Special teams is horrendous because the game doesn't allow for blocking animations while players move. They have to stop all momentum to make a block, which creates stagnation in the return game. Lanes are incredibly rare and you'll almost always see 3-4 blockers way downfield blocking no one because they've disengaged.

I just want a good offline Franchise Mode.
I got a Xbox one last year and was going to get Madden since it had been a few years. But was not impressed at all. Why are all their modes together instead of having MyPlayer and stuff separate?
I want it to be like MyLeague was in NBA 2K16 or 17. Being able to customize and stuff.

That is my reason for not going more that deep into Franchise. When we could import draft classes from NCAA, I would play from 10-15 seasons each year.

I think what is comes down to is with Frostbite, we know what the game is capable of from what we have seen in other games. So with that, I think people are going to be expecting a lot more out of Madden.

We have had to hear forever, "Why is this in _______ (insert game name here___, but we can't even get it in Madden?" And I think we are going to see more questions like this now that we know the engines capabilities.

I think that what we see from Frostbite in M18 will be determined by how long EA/Dice has actually been working with the engine...If they just started at the end of the M17 cycle, then I wouldn't expect much; but if they have been allocating resources over the past couple years, then I would expect more in M18...

Same with goal line and short yardage situations. It almost feels Tecmo Super Bowl-esque where everyone just locks up high and the running back just runs into the line and is usually at the mercy of the tackle animation.

I would agree with everything here. Also FIFA 17 was the first year with the Frostbite Engine, the key to me is the jump FIFA 18 makes and the improvements that come with it. That way we can see the expectations of year to year improvement in regards to the engine with Madden.

As you said too, depending on how long they been working on it, if it's been a couple years then M18 may be worth buying once we know the improvements and what's new to the game. Though if it was just after M17's cycle, then M19 may be the game to wait for in terms of waiting for them to work the kinks out the first year with the engine.

I don't think there will be many gameplay improvements per se just by upgrading but I do hope that at the very least the devs will get:

                    HDR
                    Improved Graphics
                    Better weather

                    pretty much for free

What makes this change interesting is that it's going to require the game to essentially be re-built. I've had the suspicion for years that Madden has a lot of garbage code from just adding to and editing the same code base every year. A lot of things just seem outright broken, particularly after patches. I think this shift to Frostbite might actually make the game function properly on a basic level, which it hasn't done in years.

On top of that, Frostbite brings with it new tools that can help with on-field behavioral realism. Most importantly, with regards to player interactions and contact.

I suspect that it will be a transition year for Madden. Some good things, some bad things with the new engine. Patches to fix some things, others which will never be fixed to complete satisfaction. I see the first year with a new engine to be equal to the first game on a new console.

Will the Frostbite Engine allow Madden to finally get rid of those robotic stiff looking running animations in favor of Fifas much more human like running animations?

                          That's all I really want!!!

Frostbite in madden this year will be nothing more than atmosphere. The skies will look better, stadiums and crowds will look better, weather will look better. Anyone expecting it to change animations or gameplay will be disappointed this year.

I would've been more surprised if they didn't go frostbite this year. With that being said, the only thing I really expect is better lighting and maybe some better player models. Probably some sort of career mode/myplayer will be the bulk of the development. Doesn't really interest me but, I know a lot people are into that nowadays.

I'd personally hope for some weather updates as well. Really don't expect anything mind blowing though.

I haven't played FIFA so I can't talk to that and its effect on gameplay. Speaking from a madden fan perspective who wants to see the game do well and deliver a true simulation experience. If this helps improve line play (specifically hand fighting/leverage/alignment), improves the dynamics of the 3-4 defense vs that of the 4-3, does something to change the "small" feeling of the field.

So I have all the hope that frostbite will bring meaningful changes to Madden 18. That said, I will take the same wait and see approach that I have in years past.
