I love telling this story, and your post reminded me of it. Lol. I think it was madden 05 or 06, but I was playing a franchise. I can't remember if I upped it to AM or kept it all-pro, but regardless, I was playing against the eagles. And, I happened to catch a replay and couldn't believe what I saw on their Oline. I had to take a closer look. Their LT was a SCRAWNY little sucker!!! I mean, we're talking supposedly your most important lineman was this little guy. I took a closer look, holy [emoji90]! It's little David Akers!!!! Lol. Their kicker was playing LT!!! I looked at their roster, and sure enough, they just had massive Oline injuries that year, so I guess good ol Akers thought he could help out. Lol.
So, I'm thinking, 'oh wow. I'm going to exploit this and see how many sacks I can get.' That little dude stonewalled me the ENTIRE game!!! Lol. And, that was my moment of truth with madden. I was always a 2k guy, anyways. And, like I said, this was 05 or 06, so I HAD to play madden that year. And, to witness something so abnormal and grotesque as teeny tiny David Akers just wrecking my RE at the time made me physically ill. It just immediately screamed, 'ratings do not matter in this game.' Lol.
Anyways, just had to share that. It was truly one of my most remembered madden games because of that. It looked completely ridiculous.

Yeah, I think I brought that up in a post later about more eyes seeing bugs/issues when you release videos early.
They tried something new this year, basically, they made their own bed, now they need to sleep in it.
It will be interesting if/when they change it up for next year.
I'm not sure if it would have helped any because people tend to stick what they feel is right, but maybe if they laid out a schedule earlier on in the process, maybe the noise would have been less or maybe not, too. lolComment

Re: Only 2 1/2 Weeks to EA Access and No Gameplay... Concerned?
Yes, I'm sure devs can't wait to hear from gamers whose main goal is to see the videos early so they can start pointing out everything they think is wrong publicly, even though they rarely have enough information to really do that.
Hence the new marketing strategy. I don't know why gamers think being so anxious to find and point out errors in videos they have not even seen yet is welcomed by the devs and publishers.
Feedback from playing the game? That's invaluable. Turning their marketing into a bitchfest? Seriously?
Bummed about not getting early videos? Blame those that see it as their job to pick apart the videos publishers hope will sell the game. Because once that is a thing, there is no longer a good reason to release them.
From a software development point of view, those that 'pick apart videos' are doing an incredible free service for EA, doing QE work for free. Not all bugs and feedback is actionable, but there are some very obvious bugs that can be picked up from watching videos and it's not just nit-picky things like cleat colors or mouth guards, or very complex things like DB or line play (which may be difficult to fix post-release).
Things like bugs with wind, stamina bugs, issues with depth charts, and more, are small, easy to identify bugs. By releasing content early, it does EA a huge service in getting more feedback early in the release.
It seems clear that the development teams and the management (or at least, marketing management) teams are not on the same page with this release of Madden. Developers want their products scrutinized, it's part of releasing software to the public, it's part of why websites like GitHub and StackOverflow have exploded in the last 5 years, and why every reputable software company has bounty programs for identifying bugs, public bashes, alpha and beta releases, etc. Developers want feedback, and even the annoying feedback from the guy who obsesses over the smallest detail that you don't care about, it's good feedback and the only way you can prioritize future development is with customer feedback like that.
So, no, don't blame the guy who does free QE work for EA. Blame the EA product marketing manager who would rather make the developer's jobs more difficult and create a greater rift between customers and the company. The antagonistic relationship that EA has cultured with its customers has always been madness, but especially so today. If you work at a software company and you perceive feedback from customers (or potential customers) as a 'bitchfest,' they you're in the wrong business, and if the company perceives it as a 'bitchfest,' then the product is going to turn out worse and the company is going to do worse.Last edited by Rebel10; 08-07-2017, 10:41 AM.Comment

I think we all hope of less bugs at release vs previous years and maybe that can be obtained by capturing video of the final product vs beta product.
I'm wondering if the youtubers that captured gameplay on Friday were able to pick out some bugs.
That is the best case scenario, worse case is we are right back to releasing a game with some bugs attached to it like previous years.Comment

Re: Only 2 1/2 Weeks to EA Access and No Gameplay... Concerned?
I see substantial value in people reporting bugs. Look at the O-line issue that came up in the very small video sample we had from E3. It was pointed out that day and Clint had a 'fix' for it 2 days later. How EA doesn't see these things when they test the game, idk. But now the game shouldn't ship with that pretty big bug that made 4 lineman ignore 1 defender. Worse case is the fix is in the release patch.
And that's the "concern" for me personally. If there was a bug like that in a 10 play sample, then the likelihood of other bugs or stability issues showing up in a full game are very high. EA has been using us for quality control since patches became a thing. Now that 'process' is delayed by up to 2 mos. We have to hope they've been testing thoroughly on their own now.Comment

Yes MrOHanky I remember that bug quite well because can't remember who I was playing with or against but I clearly remember looking at the opposing offensive line and said to myself who is that little dude. Then looking closer it was there kicker in there. I reacted just like you. Man I had forgotten all about it was Madden 05 because I did not purchase Madden 06.http://twitter.com/sageinfinite

The game is out Aug 17th for EA access members on Xbox One. If they show no video by then I'll be uploading video myself
I hope, not really interested in the blogs if we have no video to accompany what they are saying.Comment
