I heard from an EA game changer that the real reason for the delay in showing gameplay is that they're still tightening up some issues stemming from the Frostbite engine. Take it for what it's worth but as long as they're working on polishing the game until last minute then I'm fine with them holding off. At the end of the day I just want a polished game most importantly. I feel like Madden 17 was not as polished as 16 mainly because of the inconsistency in player physics. They added ball physics in 17 but player physics took a hit especially before & after a play with players randomly walking right through the QB when breaking the huddle, players walking through other players bodies on the field when getting up from tackles/pile ups, limbs fusing together, etc...All of this was cleaned up in 16 so it was really disappointing to see 17 take a step back in this area. I really hope this stuff is fixed for 18!

Good info. That's why I posed the question to begin with. Question remains whether they'll be able to get everything fixed up before launch. Not much time left but let's hope they can make it happen.

there should be a more structured schedule going forward . It should be a template that they could follow every year and it would give consumers a time frame on info without any false hopes .

Last generation they had where u could play madden almost a whole week early at gamestop and Best Buy. Why did they stop this?

For what it can count, for me now is not a pre-order a no day-one buy too, and I will wait after the release to see if it is a product actually valid or not.

Obviously if will not come out of interesting gameplay videos.

Not seem to be any real good marketing strategies at all.

patience will peter out as will goodwill, if a version of the game goes live that works with frostbite but gameplay/features are decreased. if for example the IR bug and preseason is there, or superman lbers (on default settings), or you cant edit players or ...

sadly i think there will be patches to fix stuff that was fixed previously in prior versions, as has happened with previous maddens. im thinking of an Einstein quote at this point ...

I'm not concerned at all but I think it's complete bs we haven't gotten any new game play footage.

People are now willing to pay them more money on top of the base price of the game to play the it a week early.

Tightening up some issues or dealing with major Frostbite related bugs? That's the concern I would have.

The lack of gameplay is a red flag for me, but it doesn't change my plans at all. Every year the people that buy this game on release day spend the next month complaining about waiting on a patch to start their CFMs anyways.

I'll wait it out. Redbox the game when I can and read what communities are saying. If 18 turns out to be a real upgrade I'll get it on Black Friday for $25. Otherwise I'll skip for the 4th year in a row or buy used at some point. Didn't get 17 until a month ago and I've barely touched it since.

Is it better to jump on the "Hype Train" in April and let it peter out by early July and wait for another 6 weeks before the game arrives?

As someone that worked in marketing for a fortune 500 company for 5 years, you really can't imagine the layers of approvals there are for any piece of content.


Every little thing is picked apart and has to be approved.

I completely get frustration from a consumers perspective, but just understand there are likely reasons behind it like that vs. what happened with NBA Live several years ago.

This would be true if this a new company releasing a video game. EA has been releasing Madden yearly since 1993.. They have all the additional approval layers already accounted for during development cycle schedule

And my company was in place for 40 years. Personal change, egos change, and systems change. And each and every product/campaign is different.
