Draft pick names in game commentary
Does anyone know if Madden 18 will bring back the commentators saying the names of draft picks rather than just calling them "that guy" or "rookie QB"? It seems so strange that in Madden 17 even if they have a name like Williams or Rodgers that even then the commentators don't use the name.Tags: None -

they said about 50% of the draft pick generated names can be said by the commentators. they also said theres an increased chance of draft picks having those names.Comment

Re: Draft pick names in game commentary
Like the previous posters have stated, they have included commentary for 50% of the draft pick generated names. However, you cannot edit a players name that's not said to say, 'John Smith' and expect the commentary to work for them.Comment

So the audio won't work if you edit a players name? Like if I edit a QB named John Smith and change his name to Lucas Jackson. Will the commentator refer to him as Smith, Jackson or just have no audio at all?Comment

Re: Draft pick names in game commentary
If not that is pretty sad, but even without that it's still a huge commentary upgrade. No more "the quarterback" every time you start a game (assuming you get a spoken name of course).Originally posted by Therebelyell626I am going to create a team called "the happy town fundament rapscallions" and hurt your already diminishing image

I wish we had a list of the names.

Re: Draft pick names in game commentary
It'll only work if they were generated with that name, not if you edited it to the name. My guess here is the name is given some sort of identifier for audio related to it on generation and just changing the text doesn't change the identifier tied to it.Follow me on Twitter @T4VertsComment

Re: Draft pick names in game commentary
One linebacker that I drafted in M17 also gets called Jack Youngblood, even though that is not his name. I am only in my first year with him on my team, but I am wondering if somehow I drafted a Jack Youngblood clone? Was it possible to get a draft pick this last year that was modeled after a legend, or is it some sort of glitch?Comment

Re: Draft pick names in game commentary
I thought about doing that, but every time they mention him, they say "Hall of Famer Jack Youngblood" so it kind of ruins the immersion no matter what.Comment

Re: Draft pick names in game commentary
The next step is to allow edited draft picks to have audio. If they can figure out how to do that then it should open up editing audio for current players also. This would be huge for people that create off season and classic rosters.
Edit: Do you know if create a players will have audio? I'd assume they won't since it should work the same as editing a player. Thanks.Comment

Re: Draft pick names in game commentary
I guess a work around if your guy doesn't have one of the names would be to sign a free agent with a name you want and edit his position and ratings to match the other guy.

Re: Draft pick names in game commentary
That's going to be the only way. In years past, if you edit even the first name of a player you lose the last name audio that was attached to that player. That appears to be the case again this year.Comment
