It's not even close to the same as 17.

The only reason I said "basically" is because of Frostbite and Longshot.

The game is essentially a remastered version of Madden 17.

From what I've seen of Longshot, it looks corny and terrible.

Yeah, he talks about a deep franchise, and true it needs to be deeper; but perhaps it's deep enough for him?

Deep enough for him doesn't equate to "deep". If he/she is going to give a knowledgeable review. There should be a frame of reference. Both to previous versions of Madden and with other games in the same Genre. Otherwise, his/her review is pretty worthless.

100%. The commentary is even 99% the same. No new animations. They still run like they are ice skating. Physics are bad. They added the new passing feature that will be removed in a few years. It's the same game.

I have ea access and have only played 2 games (both online. gonna play the cpu later) so far. I have not seen any major changes in gameplay but as everyone said, it does feel better than the last madden. It was really looking like i wasnt going to buy this but the the access trial might change my mind.

This whole thing is funny to me.

I don't agree that it's the best sports game of all time or even what I'll think of it in 2 weeks time once I've played it enough to form a real opinion. I dont at all see it out of the realm of possibility that someone out there would think it's the greatest of all time though. Doesn't make him wrong or that he's not qualified to give his opinion. Why do people take this stuff to heart so much?

The only way I judge this guys ability to review is if he's done his due diligence, played enough of the game and if the article is well written. To be fair I'd say yes to all of that and his opinion is his opinion.

I don't think Roger Ebert and I have ever agreed on a "good" movie but he's still a qualified review critic with crappy taste. Lol

Another issue I have with reviews that are saying things like "its the best sports game of all-time", is that Rex, Clint, John White and other EA suits see this and they're like "wow our game is amazing, looks like we don't need to do much else other than tweaks".

Next thing you know, we have QB AI awareness still not fixed, the play challenge system still not fixed, intentional grounding hasn't been called since the stone age, and CFM gets very little to no overhaul or updates.

This is the state of the issue. Like I said before, I'm all for reviewers and people having an opinion but don't stand there and tell me this game is the best sports game of all-time. Say it's much improved. Say it's awesome and you really like it.

Saying it's the best of all-time is like saying the Cleveland Browns are the best NFL team in the league right now. It's your opinion yes, but it's ridiculous. Bottom line.

saying its the best sports game of all time is extremely insulting though. It's not even the best game on EA (just based off of gameplay)

If it's deep enough for him, it really DOES equate to "deep" in his opinion lol that's how opinions work, and professional reviews are still opinions. Just opinions that reach more people.

I agree on the worthless part. But I say that about every review & critique. When reviews come in that match YOUR perception of the game, they will also be worthless.

I am assuming that people who give Madden 18 great reviews have not played its' Franchise Mode....

It's also possible that outside of the OS bubble, the lack of franchise improvements isn't a game-killing situation.

So it worked, Longshot was put in to take attention away from the lack of presentation, CFM, and animations, the suits knew reviewers would weigh Longshot very heavy in their reviews. Take Longshot and Frostbite lighting away from Madden 18 and you have want is basically Madden 17 with a patch.
