Re: Everybody talks offense schemes. Lets talks defense schemes

Although my Steelers are a 3-4 defense, I've never found success running it. I prefer a 4-3 with some occasional LB blitzing. I don't run too much zone, but I'll occasionally mix it in. I look for man coverage in the DB and zone in the Safeties since that is mostly what I have them doing. Speed in the DB is a big plus. If I'm doing a fantasy draft, I'll load up a real strong defensive line so I can free up my LB.

Re: Everybody talks offense schemes. Lets talks defense schemes

I'm a Steelers fan so a 3-4 zone blitz/illusion/confusion scheme is what I usually run.

However I'm doing some different things this year and is now running a 4-3 cover 2/zone based scheme in my offline CFM with the jets, I've already adjusted their personnel to fit my scheme.

I moved Wilkerson and Leonard Williams to DT, drafted another high round DT in the 2018 draft and he ended up being an overall 82(I drafted him #7 overall and he was the #1 player on my board)

My DE is where I need to upgrade, they are decent(overall 74 is my average D-End) but they do have speed, 1 has 84 speed(Jordan Jenkins) and I think Maulden IV has 85 or 86 speed, i also drafted another End in the 4th round who is overall 72 but speed 84. So they should be generating "Decent" pressure on 3rd and long I'm my zone based scheme that makes the QB hold the ball.

I picked up Mark Barron in free agency as my MLB(speed 88),Darren Lee at one OLB(Speed 87) and I drafted a small cover 2 LB in the 2nd round who has speed 89(albeit he is 5'11" 232 but he fits my scheme that is predicated on Zone coverage and speed)

Now my backend can get a little better as well but remember I'm running a zone based scheme so having "Lockdown" man corners is not a necessity.

I picked up Melvin(74) and Kirkpatrick(78) in free agency. Burris is my slot corner(72) I drafted a tall zone corner In the late rounds but he ended being only a 65 and moved him to my practice squad.

My safeties are pretty good(which is vital in a cover 2 or zone based scheme) I have Marcus Maye(78) And my best player on the team is Jamar Adams(overall 92) they are fast and can hit.

However the main problem so far is basically the zones/defense is broken until the patch comes out. I might play on Pro with adjusted sliders until the patch is released.

I'll have the PERFECT zone coverage called on 3rd and long but either A) one or more of my men just stand there and let's a receiver run by him leaving the guy WIDE OPEN. B) Absolutely ZERO pressure from a front 4 that is fairly good(Williams a 90, Wilkerson a 88 and my Rook is a 82) my ends are also fast. C) all the QB's have pinpoint Dan Marino type of accuracy and release on their throws and slings a perfect pass in the middle of my zones.

But I'm sticking with it because when it works, it works VERY WELL.

I have been experimenting with cover 6 with the seahawks.

        Left side of the field:
-Earl Thomas in the deep half
-hard flat coverage under him by left outside corner
-Nickel back can do either seam flat to provide complete blanket on the left side, or a hook seam if I think they are going to curl/in.

        Middle of field:
Here is where it gets fun
-ROLB has 3rec middle zone (default zone for him)
-MLB will be put into Middle read. This is a deeper read and he can follow deep crossing routes. Bobby wager is fast and can cover

        Right side of field
        - Sherman has outside quarters so nothing is getting past him
Chancellor has inside quarters. I user this player, because the right flat is not defended, you can get some big hits and ff's with him.

You might be worried about the seam routes, but the middle read helps you out. It is a lot of stress on the SS (chancellor) but this coverage is boss. If you defensive adjust to underneath coverage, it will destroy drag routes.

Don't run this unless you have a fast FS with good zone... I tried with other teams and it's too much stress on a normal FS (dual seams on the left for example)

As far as defensive plays, Cover 1 Hole has been money for me stopping anything thrown downfield in '18. It's perfect against users who like to play a vertical game. I user the hook defender and patrol the middle of the field. Cover 1 Robber is just as good if you have good press corners and an excellent FS.
