Re: How is your franchise going? Madden 18

I started as the Bears and got to run right into the Falcons week one, losing 52-35. I got to Ryan 3 times, they got to Trubisky 4 times which I thought was pretty solid. My defense could not stop the run or the pass giving up more than 600 yards. Ryan went something like 27-31 for 480 and a TD and a pick, Freeman and Coleman 3 TD's each and over 200 combined. Howard had 160 for me on 21 carries with 2 TD's and Trubisky had a 2 TD's and 2 picks. That was about what I expected defensively with the Bears with their slow LB's and sparse secondary.

I also started a game against the Bucs, also 0-1, and am currently half way through quarter 2 down 10-7. My defense has been a bit better sacking Winston with Lamar Houston who forced a fumble which we recovered. Howard has our TD and Winston threw a TD to OJ Howard and they recovered a fumble of mine to get that TD. Winston already has as many incompletions as Ryan had all game. I adjusted my sliders a little, All-Pro, and have noticed a slight difference but nothing crazy.

More late, I plan on developing Leonard Floyd into a beast with his 86 speed and getting rid of practically everyone else soon. I know the Bears have been a 3-4 team forever but I hate the 3-4 and will be moving to a 4-3, firing John Fox and hiring someone more offense oriented to help Trubisky once this season ends. Hoping Peyton Manning is an option for a coach.

Re: How is your franchise going? Madden 18

Okay, so I caved and bought PSN so that I could start a cloud based franchise single player and have it update as we go along.

I chose the Chiefs as my team this year, I love the jerseys, I love their situation. They have a solid defensive unit with a few veterans, and a so so offense with bad receivers, an okay RB and QB.

Anyway I usually sim most of the first season to mold the team a bit before I start playing. I played 3 games of the first season and we ended up 7-9...Not really where I wanted to be. It started out atrocious and we went 0-4 to start the year, then brought it up to 2-6. At this point I was actually looking forward to a good draft pick, but Alex Smith going down in Week 9 changed everything. I was already ready to move on from Smith in the off season, but this put a rush on things. I put a raw Mahomes in there and he lost his first start badly, but then started slinging it around pretty well. He ended up winning 5 out of his last 7 starts.

The offseason came around and I knew we had to do 2 things...Cut Alex Smith and find some more talent at the receiving positions.... Unfortunately the draft was a wasteland of talent at the receiver position. I used my first round pick on a running back who didn't pan out very well. 73 overall and normal dev. I spent picks two and 3 drafting some duds and this draft did not appear to be going very well for me.. I did land a few good Lineman late in the draft, as always. (Seriously, just draft lineman with 30+ bench reps, they'll turn into starters).

The free agent market didn't have any good receivers either.. The hot commodity at receiver was a 28 year old John Brown... I'll pass. I knew something had to be done though so I poured over draft notes and noticed that the Broncos had landed a superstar dev wide receiver in the 6th round or so. He was raw, 72 overall, but I knew I wanted him. It was pretty easy to trade for him and the broncos already had a crop of good receivers. I gave up a Right tackle and a 2nd round draft pick to fill one of their holes and I replaced him with one of the guys I drafted.

So, now into season 2 with a very raw Mahomes and a young receiving core. I will still be scouting receivers heavy in this draft, hopefully there will be some more talent. Kareem Hunt is coming along nicely, as he broke off 125 yards and a TD in his week 1 debut. I expect to win 8 or so games on the high end this year and try to set myself up with a decent draft.

Also, with Mahomes starting now I was thinking about changing the playbook around. It seems like KC's playbook is designed for short passes to compliment Alex Smith's skill set. What playbook would be good for a gun slinger like Mahomes? I was think ATL, NE, or Tampa maybe. Any ideas?

Big chiefs fan here. I traded alex at the start of the season and I've had mahomes starting from day 1 (3 games in). If you are looking for a vertical playbook I'd imagine Bruce Arians, Arizona playbook will have that.

I always use the Browns. Last night I finally started the regular season and now I'm thinking I should already restart after changing some settings and sliders... maybe even move up to all madden if I can't get decent sliders on AP.

Went back and forth with the Steelers in the first half. Duke Johnson fumbled on his first two carries after I lost Crowell to an injury. Ended up being 24-23 Steelers at half time.

By the time we got to the 4th quarter it was 54-30 Steelers after they pick sixed Kizer with 13:20 left.

We then managed to score 21 unanswered points and with 1:22 left in the game we recovered an onside kick. Kizer directed a great drive all the way to the 1 yard line after a pass to Kenny Britt. With 12 seconds left and time ticking, Kizer called for a ball spike and just as they finally lined up he spiked the ball... the clock read 0:00.

I wanted to scream, but my wife was already asleep. I looked at the stats for the game. Kizer threw for 557 yards and 5 TDS with 2 INTS.

First game of his career and he sets the single game record in an almost miraculous finish.

And that is what I have a problem with... the 15 minute quarters with access clock set to 10 seconds on All Pro stock sliders resulted in an arena football game.

Yes... it was fun. However, it's not exactly the experience I want with sim gaming in mind.

Re: How is your franchise going? Madden 18

I started a Broncos CFM just to mess around until XP and All-Pro sliders are done. I finished my first season 10-6 and got whipped by the Titans in the Division round of the playoffs.

In the off-season I managed to trade Trevor Siemian and the 27th overall pick to the 49ers for the 1st overall pick. Then, I flipped that pick to the Browns for the 3rd and 9th overall picks. So IMO the trade logic is still as foolish as ever, but they do give you worth for the first round picks...FINALLY. With my picks I took a SS with my 3rd overall pick to be groomed by TJ Ward, and a CB to be groomed into the next piece of the No Fly Zone.

With the gaping hole at QB, I literally threw money at Kirk Cousins and signed him. I did take a long, hard look at Teddy Bridgewater as he too was a FA, but I did it the Elway way, and decided to go for broke and win now.

I will continue for a few more days this weekend as my trial expired, but I hope Kirk is worth what I paid him lol

I used to play with 15 and acc clock but I have moved to 8 min no clock and all pro sim... It seems to be pretty accurate stats. Number of plays might not be right but the stats themselves are good.

Out of the box, All Pro works great! The only big gripe I have is for some reason, tackle stats are wonky. I mean, I get SS or FS with a good amount of tackles, but all the other players, like 4 or 5 per game. Even my MLB that should be getting like 10 at the least per game are getting less than 5. And that's after experiencing several games dedicated to playing a particular position i.e., DT, DE, CB, LB, Safeties, etc.

The CPU gameplay dynamics on the offensive side of the ball change when using different positions manually.

Finally, Week 1 is here! Spent about 2 hours this morning doing cuts/PS for all 32 teams. Won't continue with 32-team control, but wanted to make sure teams didn't dabble in with the FA pool.

Set year goals for all the coaches, not sure if it will stay or even effect firings at the end of the season, but thought maybe it can help guard new coaches (low goal) and put others on hot seat (high wins or playoff birth goals).

The most intriguing storyline going into Week 1 has to be Cooper Rush being named the starter in Dallas. With Dak injured and Zeke suspended, Cooper Rush and D. McFadden have to step up and prevent Dallas from starting off slow.

Another developing story is the QB situation in Miami. Cutler went down with a foot fracture in game 4 of the Preseason. He will be out 8 weeks, Matt Moore has taken over, but I think it's safe to say any playoff dreams for the Dolphins have surely died down significantly.

In New York, the Jets are gearing up for their Week 1 matchup against the Bills . The coaches know that every win this year will require a lot of hard work... and luck. The goal this season is to find out if any QB on the roster (Petty or Hack... sorry McCown) is worth invest our future in. McCown will be our #1.. for now, but I'm fully expecting our young players will be getting plenty of reps once our playoff 'hopes' are dashed.

Back to Cooper Rush, looks like he's started hitting the gym pretty hard once he found out he'd be the Week 1 starter.

Is anyone else using SuperSim/Play the Moments in their CFM? I've gone through a season and got completely thrashed on because of all the injuries that occurred on my team. I had 4-5 players out for 10+ weeks each, along with 3-4 more that were out for 5-6 weeks. All of this happened within the first 4 weeks of the season.

I trudged through the first year and made it to my second. I simmed preseason and ended up with 4 injuries that were 5+ weeks each. Crazy stuff.

Just downloaded the game overnight and have to go to work until 3 today. So now I have to teach fourth graders thinking about what I want to do as a Franchise. I have cut it down to three teams: the Jags, Browns, or the Vikings. What would anyone want to see?

With an overhaul during the offseason, the Vikings are looking to their youth to bring them up in 2017. With AP leaving and a lot of the offensive line leaving, the Vikings needed some new acquisitions. During the offseason the Vikings got Latavius Murray at running back. Which, is no AP but is a good fill through free agency. They also signed two tackles as well as a Case Keenum at quarterback. In the draft the Vikings selected Dalvin Cook with their first round pick. With Murray and Cook as a one two punch, the Vikings could be really good at running back. With the other picks they selected offensive line and defensive help, as well as wide receivers and a tight end. I think the Vikings had a pretty good draft in 2017. The biggest question coming into the season is who is going to start at quarterback? Teddy Bridgewater went down last year with an ACL tear, and we are unsure which Teddy we are going to see this upcoming year. Will Sam Bradford look to start this year? Will Case Keenum have to fill the void until the offseason? Another question the Vikings are going to have is can Stephon Diggs stay healthy? If he can the Vikings could potentially look to the playoffs with a strong defense and a young athletic offense.

I will post the depth chart when I get home from work this afternoon. I plan on having major write-ups to keep me interested like it was an NCAA football game.

                              The Road to 0-16

                              Week 1 - @ Bills L 22-47

The Jets opened 2017 on the road against Buffalo. The Bills received the kick and on the first offensive snap of the game found Jordan Matthews deep for a 80 yard TD. The perfect tone to start the season for the Jets.

Not surprisingly the Jets came out slow on offense and Forte was shut down the first half of the game. After halftime, down 19-6, the ground game starting picking up and the Jets outscored the Bills 10-7 in the 3rd. The wheels would fall off in the 4th though, as the Jets committed 3 turnovers and were outscored 21-6.

                              (0-1)

                              Week 2 - @ Raiders L 24-31

Matt Forte was again the focal point of the Jets offense. A tight game through three quarters, and a little sloppy with each team turning it over twice, the Raiders and Jets were tied 17-17 to start the 4th. The Raiders struck first, followed quickly by the Jets. With under 5 minutes ago the Jets were near Raiders territory looking for a go ahead score when Forte fumbled a screen pass, Oakland scooped and scored and came away with the Week 2 victory.

                              (0-2)

                              Week 3 - vs Dolphins L 17-31

Quarterback health dominated this game. The Dolphins entered the game down two quarterbacks, and the Jets would suffer an injury as well. Early in the 1st Josh McCown went down with elbow injury and 3rd year QB Bryce Petty entered and immediately threw a pick. He would calm down and lead the team on two 2nd quarter scoring drives.

Down 17-10 entering the 4th the Jets were again in a winnable situation, but once again were outscored in the final quarter. Another INT from Petty and another fumble by Forte sealed the Jets fate.

                              (0-3)

                              Week 4 - vs Jaguars L 12-17

With McCown set to be out five games, Petty went up against Chad Henne and the Jaguars in Week 4. Both teams struggled offensively, with the Jets out gaining the Jags 259 yards to 200 yards.

Entering the 4th down 10-9 the Jets were looking at there best chance of getting a win... and a Petty pick 6 later they were on their way to another loss.

                              (0-4)

                              Week 5 - @ Browns L 19-44

Week 5 saw a matchup of 0-4 teams. Figured to be a low scoring matchup things quickly changed in favor of the Browns. Tied 3-3 to start the 2nd quarter, Brice Petty threw 2 picks and was quickly shown the bench. He finished with a 10-17 82 yards 2 INT 31.6 rating stat line.

Enter the Hack. Hackenberg took over midway through the 2nd and finished the game. Surprisingly he put together a solid outing, going 13-15 for 156 yards and his first career passing touchdown. Short throws and a single big play made up his yardage. Meanwhile the Browns couldn't be stopped, after scoring 20 in the 2nd (thanks to Petty's INTs) they take a break in the 3rd only to come back in the 4th and score 21 more.

                              (0-5)

                              Week 6 - vs Patriots L 7-34

The Hack Attack falls flat. Nothing worked for the Jets in Week 6. The running game was shutdown (28 carries for 73 yards) and the passing as well (8/16 for 144 yards).

The Jets trailed from the start, as the Pats easily marched down and scored on their opening drive. The Jets wouldn't taste the endzone until under a minute left in the game, when Hackenburg hit rookie Ardarius Stewart for a 79 touchdown.

                              (0-6)

                              Week 7 - @ Dolphins L 17-30

Hackenburg would break 200 yards for the first time in his career against the Dolphins. He would also throw three interceptions. Once again the Jets were able to keep the game close after three quarters, down 20-17 to start the 4th. And once again the Jets would find a way to be outscored in the 4th, a big thanks to a Hackenburg pick 6.

                              (0-7)

                              Week 8 - vs Falcons 22-43

                              7. Seven. Seven interceptions. Week 8 saw the Jets throw seven interceptions to the Falcons. Hackenburg entered the game on a very short leash, any turnovers and he was on the bench. After a turnover free 1st quarter (6-3 score) he opened the 2nd with a drive killing INT in Falcon territory. Looking to show the coaches he could be more responsible with the ball, Petty took over and overthrew Robby Anderson for an INT on his second attempt. He would leave the game 0 for 2 and not return.

Hackenburg wasn't down tossing INTs, as he would add on 5 more through the course of the game. An ugly stat line indeed, but not so ugly if you remove his 4th quarter performance. Down only 26-22 the Jets had a shot to beat the defending NFC champs. But 4 INTs later that wasn't the case, as again the Jets get outscored in the 4th, 17-0.

Hack's INTs were very unlucky in the 4th. An overthrow towards Stewart, a tipped pass off of Anderson's hand, Ricardo Allen tipping a ball to himself, then a tipped pass from Keanu Neal to Ricardo Allen. Allen finished the game with three INTs and a touchdown.

The Jets hit their lowest of lows in this game... or have they?

                              (0-8)

                              Around the league

Perfection denied! - The Patriots quest for a perfect season ended before it could start. After loosing game one of the Preseason they followed it up with a Week 1 loss. They are currently 5-3.

Bortles is back! - Chad Henne guided the Jags to a 3-1 start, but uneven play dropped them to 3-3. Bortles was given another chance and won his first game back. The Jags sit 4-3 coming off their bye week.

Cowboys in no Rush! - With Zeke suspended the first 6 games, and Dak injured the first 10, the Cowboys were hoping they could strike gold twice with rookie Cooper Rush stepping into the starting QB role. This hasn't been the case, as Redzone inefficiencies and a down year on defense has left the Cowboys in a 1-6 hole. Can their season be saved?

West Coast Perfection! - You may not find an undefeated team in the North East, but you will find one in the North West. The Seahawks currently sit 7-0 and is the only undefeated team left.

Suck for... Sam? - Is Sam Darnold the next big thing at QB? Who knows, but currently he ranks as the unanimous #1 overall pick. And there are plenty of teams in the running for the first pick in next year drafts. The Jets (0-8) lead the way, but five other teams sit with only a single win; the Browns, Bears, Texans, Cowboys, and Giants. Outside of the Jets these teams don't look like potential landing spots for Darnold. Will we see another massive trade for #1? Or will the Jets continue their quest for 0-16?

MVP is a QB thing! - Rodgers, Brady, Wilson, Rivers. These are the top four currently in the MVP race. There is still plenty of time left for another player to emerge, but it's looking like a QB only show. Le'Veon Bell currently sits at fifth, perhaps after signing his 5 year extension he wants to add an MVP trophy to his 2017 payday?

                              Eight down, Eight to go

The Jets season may be going different than expected, story line wise, but the results are on par with expectations. Todd Bowles is on the hot seat and with a potential of an 0-16 season his time in New York seems very limited. The Jets have gone with four straight defensive minded coaches, and with a struggling defense unit, and a chance at a Franchise-changing QB prospect, perhaps they will go for an offensive mind this time around?

Only time will tell. (but I think y-e-s YES YES YES).
