Full Control PASSING...EA Fail, But it CAN be GREAT!

So folks real quick, I wanted to chime in on the new full control passing feature. First off I think its a great concept (Which we all know was ripped from NFL Fever...but thats ok)

However, the actual implementation of it is a big EA fail simply because it is just too complicated to perform that many steps in the heat of the moment.

Having said this, the concept is still very sound and actually could make passing more natural because it can combine leading a target, passing to a location, and checking off wrs all very naturally in one design if they simply made a few adjustments!

As it is now, I just dont know what the design team was thinking when they instituted the mechanics the way they did....its just too many steps to have to take to execute a pass.

A very simple change they should consider making to have this Full Control Passing System work MUCH BETTER would be:

Just assign just 1 single button as the PASS BUTTON (get rid of having to hit each of the WR buttons to pass to)

SO simply, have the same system you have, but just designate the X button to pass the ball to wherever you want on the field.

There is no benefit of having to now figure out which wr button to press to in the sequence. it just adds more confusion and complexity

So the easy new design should look like this

At the LOS. QB can left hold L2 and press the appropriate button to switch to PRIMARY WR if they want to change from the play default

After Snap, Holding L2 and Moving Left Stick controls Full Control ICON as it is now

But simply pressing the X will pass it to whereever the Full Control ICON is on the field. There should be no need to press the appropriate gamepad icon buttons to match the reciever as it is currently designed now....it is just a wasted extra confusing step

Re: Full Control PASSING...EA Fail, But it CAN be GREAT!

Also, after rereading my post....I want to clarify for those that think I want to replace the current passing system. NO that is not my suggestion

For all of us that like the regular ICON (button X,Y,B, R1) passing system that is great it should stay the same!

What i am simply suggesting is a way to IMPROVE the current NEW FULL CONTROL passing system. All I am suggesting is that for those of us that want to use the full target based (read & lead, or whatever EA calls it) they should just make a small minor change to the design to make it more 'playable' or functional. And that is to remove the step of having to press the appropriate icon buttons for the different recievers on the field when using the target passing. It really serves no purpose

You can have the same effect and more simplified, if you just designed it to use 1 single button to pass to all of your receivers. And holding the L2 Trigger while pushing the L Stick in the area of the targeted receiver would accomplish the same exact thing with less confusion for the player!

Does this make sense to all?

So just like in real football, the QB has a WR read list for each play. A primary, secondary, 3rd option, ect. So in Madden, to simulate this, when the player holds the L2 Trigger to activate FULL CONTROL Passing, the Passing Target ICON should start on the PRIMARY RECIEVER. If he is covered, the player can simply hold the L2 Trigger and push the L Stick to any reciever on the field and then click the PASS Button.

The player should not have to select the appropriate reciever's ICON button then be forced to hit that button to again to make the pass ..its an extra wasted step, and it is a confusing one as well when you have to react quick in the pocket!

EA's design is over complicated for no reason. You would achieve the same effect with my suggestion above and it would be 1 less step and easier to perform in the heat of battle!

This would only make passing to your primary read easier. Passing to any other receiver would become more complicated (in situations where you were in fact more pressed for time) either with the stick or buttons.

Buttons because you would have to hit two different buttons, one to switch receiver and the other to throw.

Using just the left stick would cause issues identifying two receivers in the same area and you are faced with either stopping the QBs movement the moment L2 is pressed or forcing you to run in the direction of your receiver. If a guy is blitzing off the edge and I want to dump off over him to the flat the last thing I want to do is give myself less time or trajectory by running at him.

What would be nice would be a modified system that actually did remove the button pressing and let you press L2 and move the icon anywhere on the field and let the receivers react to your throw. But from a programming perspective this seems too complicated to have all the players react to the indicator of a ball in their area. I can just see the disaster of every receiver and DB in the game going after every pass. It'd be like watching soccer with 4 year olds moving in herds.

Isn't it a shame we feel this about a multi-billion dollar company? With all the supposed AI awareness peddled since the PS3 we still have no faith in them being able to do something that sounds rather simple? Defenders do the old anyway so it would be about the same now except now the offense would finally react to the ball in the air too
