A little CFM history from a "retired" developer

There are always the arguments about why a product, in this particular case Madden, may not live up to expectations. Generally those discussions take place between people who don't have the necessary information to make a true determination regarding the various failures or misguided decisions that were made along the way. In more dramatic cases

    A bit old, sir.
There are two types of people on OS: Those who disagree with me, and those who agree.

The first kind is wrong. The second is superfluous.

The only difference between reality and fiction is that fiction needs to be credible.

I realize that this article is dated (2012), just trying to bringing things into context...Sim/CFM guys have been fighting an uphill battle for years. We hope for a game that plays like the NFL year after year, but in the end it appears to be a pipe dream. EA the mega corporation is ONLY interested in making money not an actual NFL football game. They use our love for football against us. The only thing in Madden that resembles the NFL are the uniforms and most of the stadiums. They can't even get the weather right after all these years, or sidlines, or extra points, or cpu play calling or yadda yadda, I can go on for ever.

These rants are clueless, in so many ways.

I was wondering what "AJ"s response would be and now we know.

Does seem that the game is merely an image of football and not true football; we seem to get things like zones that are mere window dressing of how zones do play in the NFL and we have no control, ultimately on how we can set up M2M coverage to defend routes we believe will be run.

Then again, I watch the Patriots run spacing route combos and levels just like they were calling plays right out of madden, and they tear up defenses.

I am also disappointed in the fact that there is really one rating value that matters in game, which is 91, and most everything else doesn't really amount to much. Surely there is a difference between 79 and 80, for example, but I don't feel there is much difference between at least 80 and 85, on an individual level; though I feel ratings overall work as a team and thus a number of good defenders seems to raise the level of lesser defenders and vice-versa.

FOr example, we already know that OL awareness is based on a group overall rating, with the lowest overall being dropped to determine blitz pick up; I am assuming similar group ratings are used throughout the game.

Not yet, but I am hoping it gets added especially for secondaries. Would like to see blown coverage based on group understanding of schemes (group awareness).
