How Do you Guys Run Your Franchise?

We always try and Keep our franchise as realistic as possible.

But will you move a player to a different position if you feel he would be better there?

For example a MLB to ROLB?

Yes, of course. Moving players between like positions is completely realistic.

I have moved linebackers to the D-Line and vice versa. I have moved CB's to Safety positions. Probably the most unrealistic thing I did was move a very underweight offensive linemen I drafted to the fullback position. That might be a bit too far, but all other changes are normal.

Yeah I have been debating making move because the player doesnt play that position in real life. Even though in real life they have considered moving him there

I look at it like this...it's your own personal world, you can do whatever you want.

I've seen the CPU convert some OLBs to DEs during the offseason when switching from 34 to 43. Like I saw Andy Reid retire and the Chiefs switched to 43 with new HC....Justin Houston switched to LE....

So...if the CPU will do it....I don't see why not.

I DO however like the idea of only doing the official position edits in offseason to simulate "learning a new position" but if changes are made during the season, they are only depth chart moves...so you get that ratings hit for guys playing out of position.

I'll move guys around if it gets them on the field or fills a hole opened by injuries. Perhaps a drafted LB to S, guys who played QB in college moved back if to help if starter and/or 2nd string is down, move a guy who's buried at one spot to another that gets him some playing time, etc. Moving ST players to different spots to help get them on field (due to sub limitations), especially long snappers in CFM.

Won't make silly or exploitive moves, DT to S, K to DT, P to OL, keep it logical.

I will increase ratings or traits of guys on other teams when their stars start to decline. I also will switch positions to get their best 11 on the field. If a 3-4 team signs a bunch of 4-3 OLBs or 4-3 DEs I will move them around to fit their scheme best. Just little tweaks to keep other teams competitive.

In years past when teams would draft 3 QB's I would sometimes take the time to move them to other teams for other positions they drafted. It took so long, usually I would nuke the franchise if it got too bad.

I move players around as long as it makes since. Like if I draft a 3-4 end that would be a better 4-3 DT i'll move him. I'll move LB around to add dept or get someone more playing time.

I'll also move players on other teams if theyre out of place. Like a 3-4 team with a 285lbs NT and a 330lbs DE. I'll flip them.

One thing I do in todays Madden is edit players (usually the high first round picks) to have quick or superstar development on both my team and the computer teams.

The whole development trait stuff isn't very fun to me. Though it is realistic for a player to play at the same level for most of his career in real life, drafting a player to start for your team in madden and watching him not improve at all over multiple seasons isn't very fun. If I draft a 1st round WR at 79ovr I don't want him to be 80ovr after starting him for five years because he has "normal" development, I like to see more improvement than that.

If he only went up 1 ovr. (Which. Btw, is a useless stat.) in 5 years then there’s something wrong other than just him being Normal Dev.

I was just referencing Ovr in terms of the players progression, if a receiver starts for 5 years and has multiple 1,000 yard seasons I would expect him to progress more than what the slow/normal development traits allow. Racking up exp just to purchase a higher development trait while not progressing anything else is a waste, it can take multiple seasons just to purchase the development trait.

I’ve always thought of it not necessarily as it relates to how much they will progress. But how much they CAN progress.

Normal Dev on a 21 year old and a 24 year old mean two different things. Just like SS Dev does on those same two guys.

It’s about what their ceiling is.

If you draft a 23 year old 76 ovr Slow Dev, he isn’t necessarily bad, he just has a low ceiling.

At least that’s what I tell myself to make myself feel better.

Re: How Do you Guys Run Your Franchise?

A 'spin' you could put on this is that there are system players and then there are the studs.

Guys like Julio, Odell, and Green would do great in any system. Then there is the vast majority of the players which can do ok in any system, but put in the right one they can produce at a higher rate than their actual talent should allow.

How many times have we seen a guy leave a team for a bigger deal only to see his production drop?

Perhaps the WR you drafted, who constantly produces well, is doing do to your scheme and therefore doesn't need to progress much. Sure he's a first round pick and a day one starter, but perhaps he's already performing at his peak level. Over time he will refine some skills but he won't make that leap into the elite category. He's a career serviceable starter, one who just happens to fit your system well.

Sure that's not really how it is, his stunted growth is partially do to a flawed progression system (were seemingly any player can become elite... depending on how much you push for it), but it's a different way to look at what's happened. View as if he was truly a 2nd-3rd round talent, drafted high, not a bust but not the next Julio Jones.

Which I think is a good thing. Too many high development players and the league is saturated with high 80 - low 90 players over time. I myself prefer a slower progression of the majority of players, but with the XP system it's something we can't really have.

Many players in the NFL should be lower rated. It's more about finding the right fit for a player than it is simply signing the highest rated guys you can. Teams that are successful consistently find these roles players to fill out the majority of their roster.

The best example of this can be tested with the Browns. They've won one game in two seasons. They've been competitive at times but ultimately their roster just doesn't have the talent. Yet, in Madden, many players can take that team and have a decent year or even fight for a playoff birth year one. To make it worse, they can easily swap guys out for FAs and take the team out of the gutter in a matter of moments. The cap space and draft picks they have and the team is playoff bound year 2.

i regularly draft 4-3 run stopper de/dts and change them to 3-4 run stopper assuming they are 6' 5" + and 290-315

any player i draft or sign and they are better elsewhere i change, so if i have a cb who wont cut it as a cb for me but is better as a run support ss i change them

i also have changed an undersize centre to fb and kept them on roster, dont forget multiple teams have ex dline FBs

the annoying thing is the exp hit, fbs get nothing if they are blocking. i drafted 2 fbs and both are ss. if they hit 2500 rushing yards they will get something but not much.
