Can someone explain to me how Xp works in franchise mode?

Hey there I’m a casual football fan and this is my first Madden in years. I’m looking to start a franchise with all 32 teams being user controlled by me , but I don’t quite understand the Xp system.

    My two main questions are
    1. How do I gain Xp for players
    2. Do I have to apply Xp to players or does it progress by itself?
    3. What do the XP sliders affect?

Since I’m controlling all the teams I’m really hoping that I don’t have to single handedly apply Xp to players because that would take forever and I simply don’t have the time to that. Anyway, if someone could answer my questions it would be much appreciated

Players earn xp in the game in several ways but generally from gameplay stats, hitting season goals and awards, being on the field and weekly training.

XP, once it hits a certain amount, is converted automatically into a skill point. You can see how close a player is to earning a skill point by going into the player card and looking at the green bar under his name. When it fills up - you got a skill point. Players earn xp at different rates based on their development trait - normal - quick- star - superstar - you can also find this on the player card. The doesn’t say how much xp it takes to earn a skill point - all you get is the green bar.

Skill points are used to upgrade the players archetype. Each position has 4 or 5 archetypes - basically the type of player they are at that position. This is also on the player card. You can apply the skill point to the archetype you want to improve. The game will then choose the individual traits that get improved based on the ones considered part of that archetype. At no point do you get to choose the individual traits to improve.

Teams have schemes this year and players that fit the scheme earn xp faster. Archetypes that fit your teams scheme will be noted with a purple sticker. When that archetype ovr is equal to or greater than the players ovr - he will fit that scheme and get the xp boost.

A skill point will be noted on the player card with a blue circle and a number (for the number of skill points you have). Usually after a game you will be taken to a screen and shown all the players with skill points.

I don’t know much about 32 team control but there is a setting in the team settings to have the computer take charge of upgrades.

Almost forgot - xp sliders increase or decrease the rate at which xp is earned

This helps me tremendously, thank you! I couldn't figure out why I have skill points to assign after some games, and none after others. This lays it out well, thanks.

I wrote some pretty detailed analysis on this for M18 here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Madden/comm...den_18_awards/

It's pretty similar for M19, though scheme fit is now a factor and the progression system is different. But that should provide some useful info.

v7.1 released 16th October 2018! Check out the thread and download the latest version!
