Are you able to replicate your success at keeping the formations in the proper order on the defensive side of things?

I don't mind if individual sets are in a different order (SB Wing coming up as #7 instead of #2), but I have a harder time living with Nickel 2-4-5 Double A Gap showing up above 3-4 on my defensive formations list, for example.

    Any perspective to offer there?
Nah, no luck at all here TM. I experienced the same mess as you have experienced. Even when leaving one play per-formation alone when building book, it scrambled. For instance, I think my book starts with Dollar, then Nickel, followed by 4-3 base defense and Quarters.

Thankfully, I've had no issues with the offensive side of the ball and have been able to change gameplans without any bugs or issues.

      Thanks, man.

This stuff rankles me. It's sloppy, plain and simple. APF had this part down a decade ago...more than...

You could add the whole list of available plays, edit anything you wanted in/out, and the stuff stayed in an established and absolute order.

I'm too OCD to live with Quarters showing up at the top of my D book. I wish that weren't so, but I just can't abide by that.

I wish these folks took more pride in a job well done and put out less things with serious bugs.

Believe me, my own OCD is part of the driving force behind my desire to build and use a custom playbook and gameplan in the first place.

I do use my custom defensive playbook, since I would rather have my packages scrambled than have to rifle through a mass of defenses I would never call.

To your point; There is simply no excuse for playbooks to be in the mess that they are in Madden 19, along with the workaround needed to install user gameplans. When you get right down to it, playbooks/gameplans aren't really features. As I've said many times before, they are core functions pertaining to the game of football. It's rather sad that, as a true football enthusiast, I see cosmetic features half-heartedly added while key elements that are actually related to the game continue to be ignored.

I took your star rating method and gave all the .5 stars to a full star. IE 3.5 start would be a full 4 stars. It makes the playbook a lot more usable in a actual game.

Awesome. Glad you found your own method to make it work for you. The reason I star 9 plays per-situation at 5, 4.5 and 4 is so they absolutely always come up under Frequent Playcall Window. Beats the heck out of looking down at a playcall sheet and then rifling thru my playbook by formation to find it. The 9 additional plays I choose and assign 3.5 stars "rotate" under the Strategy Window which gives me about 15 plays per-situation, plus my formation audibles.

Hopefully, play call design will eventually get re-worked, making things a whole lot simpler and effective.

Wow, I have run into some bugs along the way, but not to the extreme that you are experiencing.

Perhaps you should delete that book, turn off console, replug in and take another swing at it by using a different base playbook to start. I used the Saints as a base and experienced no problems, even when bringing in formations not found in that specific book. Keep trying and you will get it down.

When I built my book overall, before I put together my gameplan, I was very careful to make certain I had a play in each formation designated for each receiver, along with both an inside and outside run. That way, when I put together my gameplan, I wouldn't tip my hand by making sure to utilize all my weapons.

I attached my book below. Again, I have a nice colored file that I am unable to attach here. I start off each formation listing running plays across. From there, pass plays to the X, SLOT or TE and Z receivers are shown from left to right across. Hopefully it may help others looking to build their own book.

Curious question: How many plays did you have up when you coached HS football per-game? Thanks again.
Im just now circling back to this, but a typical game we would have maybe 40 plays ready to go on average. Earlier in the season maybe less, by the playoffs a little more just on experience and such.

Wow. 40 plays is a decent amount. I remember back when Sean Payton was with Parcells in Dallas. Parcells asked Payton, who put in the gameplans, "How many plays you got"? Sean would tell him around 80 and Bill would tell him "Cut it in half....". lol

I have been using custom playbooks in my offline CFM , using the 2 controller method.

Something that I have noticed latley is that I never get rain/snow late in the season or even in the playoffs?

Is anyone else having this issue ? Is there a fix?

I am on xbox if that matters.

                        Thanks for any help.

I exclusively use a custom playbook. I've never had issues with formation jumbling. I pick a formation and all the variations/plays I want then move to the next. I think that is key. Finishing a formation before you move on to the next.

Writing down they formations/plays you want before hand can really help. Hope this helps.

Right now I'm using a custom offensive playbook that consists of Goalline, Singleback, Pistol, Wildcat, and Shotgun. No Iform variations except goalline which I hardly use. It has been so much fun. More of a spread/multiple TE/ multiple RB college style playbook with a good mix of motions, read options, screens, reverses. Allows me to get very creative.

Edge, this from martz is potentially a very troubling information. What is your experience with weather using custom playbooks? Thanks.

Well, all I can say is based on my personal playing experience. I absolutely see random weather conditions while using my custom playbook. I recently played back to back snow games in Green Bay and Philly, followed by a rain game in Miami.

Overall, we are seeing weather becoming less of a factor over the past several years, with more dome stadiums now in place. However, I have not noticed custom playbooks affecting weather in outdoor stadiums.

Thanks a lot, Edge. [emoji3] Maybe I give it a try after all. But it would not have been possible without your initial write up. I'll tried it before and experienced messed up formations. It was awful. Hopefully GB playbook works for me just as the Saints' did for you.
