When the the blog about real Franchise getting bupkis came out I thought about it and should have said it then that it was probable that a new mode was a contributing factor to such a complete shafting.

I agree. Between focus on FoTF and The Yard, it's obvious to see why Franchise continues to get neglected.
I wouldn't have an issue if Franchise was in a better state. I get always wanting to be innovative. But at least fix what you already have in game.

Love when the the only sim nfl game in town focuses on modes that have nothing to do with sim nfl games. While the real sim mode is ignored.

When you are paying more for an exclusive license to create a SIM football experience why would you sacrifice resources that could go towards the sim aspect of the game? This just seems like an attempt to compete with 2k.

If that is the case and it is for current gen as well, it feels like next gen Madden 21 might be a port. Where it's going to take advantage of SSD and Hardware with the proposed Next Gen Madden 21 features, but see it being the same as current gen.

We go through this with every gen not sure why it comes as a surprise. They can't just ignore the previous consoles in the first year because so many sales come from them.

The old consoles are going to severely hold the game back because the new ssds are a double edged sword. They can't go all in on them because that would make the game borderline unplayable on hard drives.

Here's what I think happened
2K gets the right to make a non simulation football game, then the EA Execs panties get in a bunch, and force the Devs to focus on a non simulation game mode.

Thus limiting franchise updates

Sounds like football a group of friends would create in their neighborhood. If so, I would hope the players are not in full NFL team uniforms, but maybe something like would be seen on an NFL practice field during no contact drills.

Genuine question, I assume the MUT team focuses solely on MUT and there's a team that focuses on the gameplay on the field. Does the franchise team actually act more as an any game mode team? Did the franchise team do the work on the celebrity mode last year, or was that a separate team? I'm becoming more and more curious as to how the Madden team is actually structured because the progression of this series is incredibly confusing.

Rex Dickson said quite explicitly that resources that went to MUT resulted in fewer resources going to Franchise mode. Speculate whatever you want, especially about specific details, but the guy who ran the game left little room for doubt about whether or not one mode affects another.

To me it sounds like EA attempting to undercut 2K's forthcoming games. Of course that's rather speculative at this point, but it would not be surprising. If they are not prohibited from doing it, why wouldn't they? They've already prevented competition from making an NFL game (yes, the NFL is complicit in that), so why wouldn't they attempt to undercut a competitor in any way they could?

Oh, I have no doubt that EA wants to undercut 2K. I wouldn't be surprised if EA worked in a way for players to qualify for tournaments through such a mode as The Yard.

we really dk bc "sim" still doesnt have a real definition. is 6 vs 6 with nfl uniforms sim? if not its fair game for 2k

If Rex said moving people to work on MUT takes away from Franchise, Rex also said Longshot took up resources that could have went to Franchise. Do they not have enough devs? I imagine you could just split the devs up if you have enough where one group works on MUT, one works on KO, another The Yard and one group whose purpose is Franchise Mode.

The main point of exclusivity is so that other companies can't make a sim game.

My guess is that they don't have enough engineers to give every mode the attention it deserves and the non money making aspects are going to get less of the engineer's time.

Honestly I think I am more interested in The Yard than I ever was in Superstar KO. I'm generally down with having new ways to play Madden.

Gonna assume it's gonna be rife with monetization options, though, which would drive me away if so. How did Volta end up working out in FIFA 20 in that specific regard?
