Re: New Game Mode in Madden 21? The Yard?
dont play fifa of volta but i assume it was monetized. its too easy to offer "dont wanna grind? just pay X amount for x amount of skill points"
its literally the same thing in 2k, people will buy the game for my park then drop another 100 bucks to get their stats up instantlyComment

Based on Canes21's response, that's not currently the case in FIFA 20:
Again, NBA 2K does exactly that. I assume that was a priority in NBA 2K in part because fashion and basketball pair more strongly than other sports, what with the shoe culture and flashy pre-game outfits players wear nowadays.Comment

Why wouldn’t you? Why wouldn’t you snuff out a potential competitor for your license in five years before they even returned to the market with an arcady NFL game?Comment

I'm well-aware of how NBA 2K works, I've been keeping my eye on it all year specifically because Take 2 has morphed into a entity that is every bit as greedy as everyone accuses EA of being (not that EA is innocent, they are not above criticism as long as they remain in the loot box game literally at all and all the Ultimate Team modes are loot box games, but EA Sports' games at the very least don't very literally have slot machines and plinko games baked into them).
Based on Canes21's response, that's not currently the case in FIFA 20:
Which is... actually surprising to me. I would have assumed there would be cosmetic purchasable items such as designer clothes or limited edition shoes, at least.

Re: New Game Mode in Madden 21? The Yard?
Cool, glad that Franchise is getting the shaft this year so we can have a watered down Superstar Mode (Face of the Franchise), continued support for Superstar KO and a new mode called The Yard, which I would bet would be a more arcade-y, fast paced style that it'll be easy to pick up and play and possibly customize-able.
I just can't understand why they fought so hard to be the exclusive SIMULATION video game of the NFL and then they're pushing out these arcade, nothing modes that nobody seems to be asking for.
This is also such a blatant preemptive strike for whatever 2K is planning on creating for their own arcade NFL game in a pathetic move.
I just can't understand this company, man. It's like they want absolutely nothing to do with making an accurate, detailed football simulation (it'll still always be a video game, I get that, it doesn't have to be exactly one to one to real life) but they also want absolutely no other company on earth to even be able to think about making an NFL game. EA is so depraved and greedy they just don't want to have their cake and eat it too, they don't even want anyone else to have the basic ingredients to make cake at all."Pop-Tarts? real football simply wont sell. players online wont have fun when they arent putting up 40 + points. the tourney crowd would be irate if they had to learn use and learn actual football principles. and mostly they dont want to scare away the casuals who want something to pick up and play.
we have to learn that the sim guys here are really EAs minority, thats why they dont care about actual football and franchise mode.Comment

Why do we assume more realistic play won't be liked by the casuals? They are casuals, they are there for the NFL license and are going to buy Madden whether it plays like it does now or if the X's and O's meant more.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Volta actually would have benefited from more integration with Ultimate Team. The lack of real players and abundance of repeat players with ridiculous names ad the same 6 appearances and clothes was one of the biggest issues with the mode. Volta with real players and good cosmetics could have bee fun, as long as there was a way to grind it out for that stuff and not rely on mtx. It'll be interesting to see how Madden handles it and if Fifa innovates the mode more this year.Comment

Franchise modes, at this point, are just holdover modes from how sports games used to be played. It’s a declining niche of gamers that pay the least but demand the most. It’s why 2K is still interested in the market without sim play. It’s why The Show and everyone else just stopped emphasizing franchise modes.
And I am positive 2K knows full well that MyPlayer and MyCourt are why 2K dominates sports game sales. There is way more money in sports games that let you play as a team with friends against other teams of gamers playing together.
What is driving sports games now? The same things that drove us to play backyard sports as kids, the fun of competition. Consoles are connected and powerful enough to let us play and compete, not just simulate.
And this isn’t a right or wrong thing. Publishers spend money researching what their customers want, and what they can provide to get more customers. It’s where we are as sports gamers right now. And it will always be changing. But we never get to dictate to a business owner anything. We can simply state what we will and won’t buy.
Franchise modes can come back, but I think it will require some sort of paradigm shift.Comment

You answer the question yourself in the post. EA makes more money ignoring franchise than catering to franchise fans. They, at the very least, believe this to be true.

The game that pretty much birthed the single player, online competitive modes (the NBA 2K series) has a franchise mode that absolutely crushes Madden's year in and year out. Don't play the game myself but I it appears as if they don't even really touch the mode that much but, then again, they don't really have to because it's already a very good base.
Those of us that pine for Franchise mode aren't even asking for a lot. I refuse to believe that EA can't still shove whatever arcade mode improvements they want in for next and have the time left over to put in something as simple as IMPROVED STAT TRACKING or purely cosmetic coaching staffs.
It's unreal how little EA cares about Madden's Franchise mode. It's not like they don't care for the mode and want to change the game towards getting 10-16 year olds to shell out their parents' credit cards every year, it's like they actively disdain the mode and want to punish anyone who wants to use it.
I legitimately can not wait until the year Madden, the only game able to be produced as an NFL SIMULATION game, doesn't even have a Franchise mode in it. I legitimately think it'll happen within the next decade. It'll be a soulless, barren, single season 'campaign' mode where you pick a team, just play up to the Super Bowl, get a congrats screen and that's it."Pop-Tarts? Re: New Game Mode in Madden 21? The Yard?
To me it shows their insecurities with their own product. I understand the business side of it. My point is this isnt necessarily about making the game better. It's about taking potential consumers away from 2k. Its obviously having a negative affect on the sim game modes that they paid a premium for to be the only company to do so. Now the people that only have one option in a sim experience is being put on the back burner because EAs concerns have shifted towards what 2k might do.Comment
