Re: Madden NFL 22 Scouting Update Arrives with Gameplay Tuning & More - Patch Notes

It's interesting reading everyone's thoughts on the update, and to see just how many people immediately go into testing mode. I'm the weird cat who doesn't sim ahead to see what it's like, and I don't "test" or lab, and I'll wait for it to organically appear as I play my season. More than likely, I'll never see the kinks and weird stuff everyone else does because I'm not stress testing the mode, I'll just play it as it comes.

Not a critique at all on anyone, just an interesting observation I see as I read through the comments. Reminds me of a friend of mine, he thinks Madden is one of the greatest sports games out there because he never goes anywhere online to read or talk about it lol So for him, ignorance of things the game does wrong (like draft logic) is bliss for him. I think I'll have a similar experience when scouting kicks into gear, as I won't be testing it or keeping notes or any of that.

Again, just an interesting thought I had. Carry on!

Nah, I’d say you’re the normal guy lol. It appears that some folks buy the game with intent of just finding what’s wrong with it. I’m like sheesh, guys going through the game with a fine tooth comb and it makes me wonder do they ever actually play the game!!

Re draft logic: wouldn’t it be an easy fix to edit the young qbs (Wilson, Trevor etc.) before the draft, I.e making them rated in the high 80s.. and edit them back after the draft?

Gents, I haven’t been able to play since the patch released. Anymore updates on actual gameplay? Some say gameplay is better, others are saying it’s not . What’s the verdict? Armor and Sword where you at brother, what’s the word?

I've tried this and had mixed results. Last draft I had the cowboys drafted a QB late first round with Dak still on the roster sitting around 90 overall still in his 20s. I don't understand the draft logic. I just trade the players where I think they should go. It's a pain but not a big deal to me.

There is a definitely a subculture of gamers for whom finding out what is still "broken" about a game is pretty much more important than anything else, and they always find what they're looking for.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

That's what I did...set everything up the way I wanted it, and got to experience the first bit with scouts popping up. I ended up hiring TJ Houshmanzedah because I think it's awesome to see retired names in there, set my scouts, and that was it.

I have zero clue what the rest of the update will even look like lol excited to get there, though!

On a related note, I had to stop playing the game before due to how poor the coverages were, but playing my first preseason game last night was like night & day from previous games! I was SF hosting KC, ended up losing 26-23 but it was a blast. Your sliders probably had a lot to do with that, to be honest. But it was so nice to see my secondary attempt to cover the WR's instead of standing still on fly routes & deep crosses.

For the first time since probably Madden 19, I'm extremely excited to get home and play!

My first play post patch was a zone run to the left.

The LT tried blocking the defender to the right of the LG and vice versa. So both blockers just ran into each other. Additionally, the MLB went unblocked while the center stayed on a double team with a player to the RIGHT of the RG. Three defenders stuffed me in the backfield.

Defense was aligned perfectly for the play called, but because the blocking logic is absurdly atrocious, the result was a loss.

On top of that, on defense, I call Cover 3, the CPU runs a 8-10 yard hitch route. DB covers it well, then just starts backpedaling downfield covering absolutely nothing. Happened multiple times.

So when they put out all of these patch notes, and yet problems so glaring that have been problems for years are still not being mentioned, it makes it hard to give them much credit.

The CPU/AL logic is still kinda dumb for sure in free agency, one team i forgot who it was signed 2 qbs in one off season, and already had a starter,

they AI still doesnt offer players in trades during the draft, only picks,

did they even do anymore work on the zone, ive fiddled with the new scouting thing alil, but honestly does it make that huge of a difference, or basically the same just with more bells and whistles look,

Playing on the Xbox series X, do you received a prompt to download patch with the scouting update onto your system or is it down automatically?

Sliders too tbh. I really don’t trust anyone who hasn’t banged out a good 100 hours on default first, ya know? That’s how it used to be done. Now guys head straight to sliders to “fix” preconceived “problems” without actually working thru a season or three first. I’ve been guilty of it myself.

                                Really?

Speaking for myself, I don't use sliders to fix the game.......never have. I have used sliders exactly what they were designed for.

                                Tuning.

To tune the game to the way I like it to play.....not for you....not him....for me.

We share it.....and if people dig it great. If they don’t...who cares. If I help just one person enjoy it more than me....mission accomplished.

100 hours on default? I don’t need to play 20 hours on default to know exactly how I want the game to play......again for me.

Different strokes for different folks.....but this whole idea that sliders are part of the problem is probably one of the biggest myths of sports video games.....they are a godsend.

When I was finally able to adjust sports games to my liking I was rejoicing.

The more they give the better it is. I wish Madden had more. Because they can use more.

The things you can do to tune NBA 2K? Unlimited. And the funny thing is....I do not stray too far from default on most settings....but certain values I do to get it....in “my” sweet spot.

My fundamental complaints typically about a sports game is because of AI and programming.

Gameplay on Madden is for me really strong this year. Sliders have only enhanced it for me.

Again.....some people love default and don’t mess with sliders.....that's great! And if default feels great for me....I have zero problems playing default. But when you have played sports games for 30 plus years.....you kinda know exactly what you want outa your game and sliders allow you to explore that and make it happen if default gameplay is not exactly what you want.

I don’t look to fix the game with them. Only the developers can fix a game.

Can we alleviate or tighten certain things? Yeah of course. Not everyone plays the same nor has the same sticks skills or approach.....sliders allow you to dial in your happy zone.

                                Or not.

Anyway.....I just get tired of seeing sliders being blamed for problems. I think it is kinda funny actually. They are part of a potential solution.

The problems start when you don’t know what you really want....and try all different kinds of sliders and get into slider hell.....that I agree with.

The first step is looking in the mirror and admitting how good or not good you are at a game and finding someone like you who maybe put out a slider set that fits “your skill level and style of play”

I share them to help people enjoy the game.....and absolutely for no other reason or motivation. It is simply fun to unite like minded people and have fun with these games.

Slider threads are where people become community here IMO. More so than any other place in Operation Sports and we have fun sharing stories and solutions. There are a lot of guys who have really good slider sets to use as a base to find your happy zone.

And for some.....default is that place. And that’s cool. But fundamentally speaking and I only speak for myself.....I don’t need 100 hours at default....to know. Maybe 15 years ago....not anymore.
