    This is the correct instinct!

Believe it or not, a large number of video game designers and critics much more skilled than I at understanding what makes an enjoyable video game and who have done much more research about blockchain technology than I have are voicing the exact same concern!

Here's a much longer piece from video game designer and critic Doc Buford about problems with and concerns about integrating NFTs into video games.

Being true to my cynical self, I feel like it'd be the equivalent of accepting Ricky on Trailer Park Boys paying me in hash coins and never actual money.

In their annual investor call today, Electronic Arts stated they are “not looking at NFTs and the Metaverse at this moment in time.”

So Madden 23 might be safe from this garbage, at least.

I’ve been noticing that smart people are figuring out that the whole cryptocurrency and NFT craze is a large scam for the ignorant to fall for. NFT’s have no place in gaming, period. When I read and saw how Ubisoft wants to add them in their loot boxes, that was the final proof I needed. All this digital stuff is, is a cash grab.

I’ve read about NFT’s and had them, “explained,” to me by people that are likely equally confused by them, but can someone explain to me how they would even work in Madden? I’m too old to understand this crap anymore.

My understanding is that you would buying modded skins or patches to the game, maybe as simple as buying unique tattoos for your created player, but that scares me more than anything per a Madden game. How many times have patches screwed up other portions of the game, you know?

So just dlc? A game like madden has cards that expires every year. How dumb would it be to have an nft of a mut card that has no value past the current year?

But only the person who purchased it can use it?

sorry for the long link. I'm sure there are more/better explanations, but this one seems to keep it simple, which works well for me.

Re: We're all on the same page about not wanting NFTs in Madden, right?

I’m not a tech bro or anything but IMO it likely doesn’t matter, most games that have NFTs will likely not force participation. There will surely be things you can purchase in games, but again, that doesn’t mean you need to participate, nor is purchasing them the only way they’re acquired. A lot of games won’t have any NFTs for awhile, but I think most will many years from now.

Many games will let players earn NFTs through simply playing in a variety of ways. Different games will have various options and creativity. I would expect a lot of what Madden could do to not be earth shattering. However if you could play a game and unlock a unique item, then take that item to a marketplace outside of that game where you could sell it, would that interest you? How about adding an option that you’ll gain X% in return if your original item gets resold.. and every time after? How about taking an item you collected in one game into another game? For Madden, it could be a unique item you earned in Madden 26 but you’re still able to bring it into Madden 28. If it doesn’t interest you, can you not see how others would potentially enjoy it?

It’s just scratching the surface, we’ll see what’s going on over the next decade.

Definitely only just want more old school, all it was in the first place, Madden in my Madden.
