Re-visiting the casual vs authentic NFL version:
Rex on Twitter
The aggressive catch mechanic.
I knew I was in trouble when an executive producer told me how much his 8 year old nephew loved throwing streaks to Gronk for TD's every play.
Still have nightmares about it till this day.
I just think to make a sustainable profit, EA must cater to all ages and likes.
I think it would behoove them to drop the simulation tag line, but I'm sure there
would be back bite on that because you could get snarky comments on either side
saying 11 vs 11 is simulation enough, etc.... that is the way Madden wanted it, yada, yada yada.Last edited by roadman; 06-04-2022, 11:42 AM.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 23 Gameplay Improvements Revealed - Pass Coverage, Pass Rush, QB Conta
You aren't wrong. Complexity is a legitimate concern. That allowed, it is my opinion that Tiburon so far is changing complexity in the wrong areas, and the complexity that is retained isn't authentic to the NFL.
A specific example: if Tiburon really wants to reduce the complexity of Madden? They should nuke hot routes out of the game entirely. Getting rid of hot routes would dramatically reduce the learning curve and skill ceiling of competitive Madden in a way that is authentic to real life football. No offense actually uses individual hot routes the way they are called in Madden, plays aren't drawn up in the dirt like Johnny Unitas used to do anymore. Madden's definition of an offensive hot route is flat-out wrong, to boot; it's simply a short route assigned to a receiver built into the play call which is a "now" read by the quarterback when faced with a blitz, it absolutely is not create-a-play. On defense, the entire concept of defensive "set-ups" used by top-level competitive Madden players is ludicrous. If hot routes disappeared tomorrow, I would not miss them at all, and it would additionally reduce the stress of Tiburon's game designers attempting to balance play calls because they wouldn't have to worry about the user completely destroying each call with hot routes.
With respect to reducing the barrier to entry - which again is a totally valid issue, I actually think all sports games are very bad in this regard - Tiburon already has the Skills Trainer in the game. At the time it was introduced, it was quite useful and thorough, but it has been updated little since its introduction in Madden 15. Match coverages, which were originally introduced in Madden 17, have never been present in the Skills Trainer. I further don't recall Skills Trainer receiving updates for Madden 20 when RPOs were added either (I admittedly might be wrong on this). Madden 22 additionally removed Skills Trainer drills from Franchise mode; I allow that the total impact of this change on Franchise mode itself is mixed, but it certainly de-prioritized the one major teaching tool available in the game. Finally, a major flaw with the Skills Trainer is that it only taught the what; how to do a spin move, how to call a play, what each play is, what my read key is for a read option, and so on. It has never taught the why of football - when should I call play action? What are the benefits and drawbacks of particular formations? What plays might work best with my team's current personnel? What plays should I run in a four-minute offense? If there's a problem getting players up to speed, that's the game's fault, and Tiburon should further invest in building out teaching tools into the game to address that as opposed to reducing the total complexity.
Also if we're talking purely semantically, then you're entirely correct. The term "Hot Route" almost always refers to a route adjustment and immediate throw for if the defense brings 1 more blitzer than the offense has in protection. If they had a way we could set that up (maybe in the same way we assign double team blocks?) Then that would be an awesome feature.
What they let you do in Madden with hot routes is just absurd.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 23 Gameplay Improvements Revealed - Pass Coverage, Pass Rush, QB Conta
I’ve seen the usual. Roughing the passer, unnecessary roughness, holding(offensive), illegal block in the back, and defensive pass interference.
Doesn’t seem any different or better to me than last year, I didn’t adjust sliders thoughComment

I agree. Haven’t seen any more or any less Penalties. Mostly just holding. Haven’t seen pass interference in 3 gamesComment
