Re: I’m Already tired of throwing picks cause my WR won’t attack the ball and i for a
If you don't look at the game as a simulation game, it kind of works. I for one enjoy getting hit when I throw and having the DT get 3-4 interceptions a game. The sliders are clearly broken and just need a patch. In the meantime, my goal is to throw 40 TD's and 40 Ints in the same year.Comment

Man, I'm jealous of you guys throwing 2 picks a game. I'm mostly seeing 3-5 and get got 7 in one game, lol.
I'll complete 70-75% of my passes but half my incompletions are INTS, usually 2+ are pick 6's. I keep restarting my franchise because by the time I get to game 2 I've locked up the league lead in interceptions and I don't want to ruin my QB.
A lot of things have to go wrong to get numbers like that, and a lot of it is user error. Throwing on the run, panicking when the pocket collapses, etc. Those are probably good changes to the game and I just have to get used to it.
I also think its harder to fit the ball into small windows on slants. Or maybe not harder, but you have to start the throw animation earlier.
But there have also been ones where I get the coverage I want, my WR is wide open, and the DB just breaks and comes flying in for the pick 6.Comment

Re: I’m Already tired of throwing picks cause my WR won’t attack the ball and i for a
I think it can be summed up pretty easily. Defenders are catching balls at too high of a rate, even with lowered sliders, and users are throwing too many balls that hit DBs in the hands. The interception slider may need to be looked at by EA AND users need to adjust to passing in this year's game. Both can be true, and I believe both are true.
This would be a potentially highly entertaining and educational thread if everyone was providing some videos with their tales.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: I’m Already tired of throwing picks cause my WR won’t attack the ball and i for a
Last night was pretty ugly as I threw 6 ints in a blowout loss to KC. It was ugly. Three of the interceptions were on me… I got greedy and threw into coverage. That’s part of the game and it happens in real life. I have no problem with that.
The 3 picks that frustrate me are “maddenesque”moments…
1. Aggressive corners who react far to fast and defy physics with split second turns.
2.my WR not coming back to the ball or going up and fighting for the ball.
3. Ludicrously high jump radius for CB’s when trailing the receiver.
My int slider is at 10 and pass reaction at 35.

To echo Canes point, more than 1 thing can be true. There probably are lot of user errors, especially with growing pains in a new passing system. It's not a simple "git gud" problem either though as sliders don't appear to be working (maybe just on ps5?) and even the CPU's throws get gobbled up instantly if a defender gets a hand on it (it's just less prevalent with the CPU as the User's defenders aren't as aggressive in going after the ball). The game needs a patch to make sliders work as intended and probably tone down the elite hands of all defenders default.Comment

Re: I’m Already tired of throwing picks cause my WR won’t attack the ball and i for a
Fascinating thread. I'm wondering how much of this is the game and how much is the player. I didnt throw many on M22 but when i watch my son play, he makes a lot of bad decisions. Not syaing you guys are but if M23 gets labled as harder, all for that.Comment

Re: I’m Already tired of throwing picks cause my WR won’t attack the ball and i for a
I personally do not think interceptions are a problem. In fact, I welcome the challenge. I'm playing on All Madden & all of my interceptions have been a result of my own doing. Either I didn't make the proper read in time, I'm using a lower rated QB that can't fit the ball into tight windows like some of the Elite QB's (ala Aaron Rodgers), I'm throwing when being pressured, etc. Am I throwing INT's at a higher rate than last year? Yes, but I can't attribute it to psychic DB's, super human LB's etc. I'm finding that I have to step my game up. I personally hope they don't nerf it. It's fine how it is in my opinion.
The only passing aspect that I think needs to be addressed is receivers don't seem to come back to the ball letting defenders get the interception. There needs to be more of a fight for the ball from receivers (and yes i do user catch but we shouldn't always have to).Last edited by JKSportsGamer1984; 08-18-2022, 04:10 PM.Comment

I’m Already tired of throwing picks cause my WR won’t attack the ball and i for a bad
This is an open question to the forum, mostly asking out of curiosity’s sake:
How many of you call “easy” pass concepts, such as PA Slide, tunnel screens, pop passes, RPO bubbles, Spot, and Spacing?
Speaking for myself, my default behavior in past Madden games was to call some shotgun spread set, call a million hot routes at the line based on the coverage shell, then sit in the pocket with impunity against a dead pass rush and pick the coverage apart. That doesn’t work as well anymore because the pass rush is live now, and compounding the problem is that the CPU defensive backs punish throwing late or throwing junk hard. I’m having to basically learn how to use the entire playbook on the fly to break bad habits.
You cannot force the ball downfield vertically in this game to the extent that you could in past Madden games. On the flip side, throwing easier and safer passes to move the ball downfield will reduce your chances of throwing INTs, and consistent success with safer passes can frustrate the defense into more aggressive coverage calls (man coverages or blitzes), against which you can more safely try to push the ball downfield.Comment

That, with the INT sliders at 1, which I'm not sure they work all that well, I'm doing better, and most of my INT's are strictly on me. The CPU is always gonna be able to get one over on you here and there. But it's been better the more I'm re-learning to play the passing game. And the new throwing mechanics are helping too as I am trying to lead the ball to only a place where my WR can get it.
I also lowered the CPU coverage and reaction sliders. I think that might be helping as well.
But overall, I wouldn't be mad if they tuned it so that INT's happen less frequently.Comment

Re: I’m Already tired of throwing picks cause my WR won’t attack the ball and i for a
when do you take control of the player ot catch the ball?
The game is clearly tuned and designed for full “user” input.
Once I had this epiphany last night playing the trial…..it all came together for me.
No longer can I play Madden on the Next Gen console with a “no switch, no user catch” mentality where players ratings and “depending” on player AI will suffice.
Nope we had to crack our knuckles and go back to our beginnings on the Sega Genesis and PS1 where my input reigned supreme.
Once I started user’ing and switching on defense I was in the zone and playing much much better defense and taking control of my WR after I released the ball….yep I was able to fight and position my receivers better and use my catch types to battle for the catch.
It opened the game up for me…..and wow….it is now really fun.
It simply demands full on user input and skills and make no mistake the ratings matter….the difference between going and getting a ball with Tyreek Hill vs a rookie 5th round WR is stark.
Also you really have to anticipate the route on offense as the QB and get the ball out….quick. The new QB throwing animations are the truth. It was an adjustment and I still need more practice but it is damn good.
I have done a 180 on this game. Once I realized “no switch/no user catch” is dead and buried as an option on Madden 23 I started fully appreciating what the developers have done with the most important aspect for me.
Gameplay.
Full impressions coming later on in the impressions thread. And it is a balanced review.

Started teaching myself to use free form passing and From what I have seen, you want to fit the ball into tight windows then you have to use free form passing. It makes a huge difference in keeping th ball away from defensive players and not getting picked off on those throws.Comment

Safety valves, safety valves, safety valves. Use them. Make your 2-3 reads on the pass play immediately and if they aren't there, hit the flats route or the drag route. That's literally what they are there for.
You should know pre-snap what defenders/routes you are watching, and you should know by the time you finish the drop back if the throw is there or if you are dumping it off. I know, that sounds cliche a bit, but it has never been the case in Madden before and many players won't actually be used to QB'ing this way. You need to now.
If you're TE is running a corner route, you should know before he breaks if you're throwing his way or not, and if not, you're likely dumping it off. You should know if you're throwing the streak before the WR is even 7 yards downfield. You can't watch and see if he gets open, you have to be able to read if it looks like he should get enough space to throw it.
In past Maddens it was very easy to QB by just waiting til someone was open and throwing it. It always made me puke, but I've seen so many people rely on calling slants and throwing them 4 seconds later 20 yards down the field. I've seen, and been guilty of it plenty of times, people throw the streak route once the WR is open and 25+ yards down the field, and you'd get away with it because defenses were so poorly played in the past and throw speeds were crazy. You can't really do that in Madden 23.
The easiest way to put it is that the ball should be getting to the receiver as they get open.
Too many people, including myself, are used to throwing once the WR is open because that's how Madden has allowed you to play for years.Last edited by canes21; 08-18-2022, 05:49 PM.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”
