Fast players feel unstoppable and that’s what it’s supposed to be. A WR with 99 speed should be able to burn a CB in coverage and it happens quite often with this slider. I’m all for the 0
I don't know who that is, but I agree with him even without watching the video.

I've been using that setting for a number of years now and this year more than others it opens the down field passing game in a very realistic manner.

It also helps to alleviate some the INT's issues because now you have space created over the middle of the field as the Defenders can't magically warp back into the play if they are beat.

Here is my thing when it comes to threshold. I do not focus much on getting caught from behind. My frustration lies in having the threshold at a low number (ie 5) but then call a 9 route with a WR who is 10 points higher in speed and acceleration than the DB yet the DB runs step for step with him.

That’s a serious issue with the game.

It’s also serious in the sense we have dealt with this for a decade and 4 consoles and no one really know what’s happening.

This will happen if the DB has a coverage rating near or better than the WR's route running ability.

We were able to get pretty good results on the PC/PS2-gen before the gamespeed tuner was introduced.

The rabbit hole is endless there, regarding how the individual ratings correlate to the tuner.

This feels like you’re oversimplifying the problem of going deep to just “can my guy win a foot race” and in turn not doing enough work presnap.

If a boundary cornerback is playing off coverage presnap, you shouldn’t call a 9 route ever. No NFL boundary cornerback is getting beat deep while playing off, be it in zone or man with over top technique. If you want to go deep on the sideline against a boundary off man CB, call a play with a sluggo route or use the post-corner hot route.

If the opposing CB is in press, your wide receiver has to beat the jam to get a clean release upfield. Speed enough isn’t going to win there, your receiver needs to have good Release, Strength, and Agility to reliably win those interactions. As soon as you see your guy win, throw the ball upfield and towards the sideline using Freeform passing.

I play on speed threshold 50 (default) and can reliably get behind the defense on the boundary with CeeDee Lamb, who is only SPD 90. In my online league Lamb just finished the 2022 regular season third in receiving yards per reception at 23.0. Similarly, Michael Gallup (SPD 91) finished fifth at 22.1 YPC.

Winning before the snap and at the release, then subsequently getting the ball out on time are far more important to going deep this year. You absolutely do not need the fastest players or a wider speed parity value to achieve this.

Well said. I'm terrible at this game, and have no idea what translates from real life to Madden... but, as I read through many of the common complaints, it seems a fair number may be entirely (likely somewhat) due to not understanding the fundamentals of the game.

I know there are a lot of high level players who can read defense for the purpose of this game, so if they are also complaining about interceptions, then something probably actually is wrong. However, my 5 year old son also throws a lot of interceptions because he can't read zone coverage, not just because INTs are messed up.
