I can't tell a lie, I think about taking off but I never do. I might stay up until midnight (I'm pretty much exclusively digital now) then play one short game and resume after work that evening.

That's what I usually do, this year I will at least be taking off the 15th though I believe. I have quite a few vacation days unused.

By this point in the year I usually still have the majority of my vacation balance left. But after the Disney cruise just before the 4th and some other days, I’m down to only 9. [emoji23]

Yeah same here, last year was horrible though as I had to take 3 weeks off for my hip replacement (which wasn't bad btw but coudln't sit for long periods of time like I need to at my office job) and so had to work most of the rest of the year with practically no time off. It was awful!

This year it's been much more of a luxury, and I still have 6 days left, even with 2 weeks off at Christmas time. So one of them will be going to Madden NFL 24, the best football game in a while and likely will be until EA College Football.

Now EA College Football is getting TWO days off!

Which brings us to a strange point. Now that we all understand mental health is as important to our overall health as physical health, we should look at someone taking a day off to do something they enjoy (such as Diablo) as being with merit and not just being silly, or childish.

I think it's really something many who don't understand mental health will still look at with a jaundiced eye but I think the times are changing in this sense, for the better.

Being a responsible adult doesn't meant you can't have "silly" hobbies that make you happy. At least not in my view..

I mean people in the older days would say they were taking a day off to go camping and that was accepted. But a video game release? Well they are both things people do when they are off work so why is it really all that different?

I totally agree. I'm sorta old (44) so I have to change my mind a little with regard to myself taking time off for it. I will make a beeline to the store after work on release day though and I have done a midnight release when my apartment in Charleston was like 2 mins from a GameStop. All before going digital of course.

I’m still debating if I’ll get NBA 2K24, but it looks like this year will be the first year I don’t buy a sports game. I’m tired of these glorified card collecting games. It’s just sad.

Now, this I agree with. Before my wife and I got married, I think she thought it was rather foolish that I still played games and now here she is buying be consoles for my birthday (bless her heart... she bought me a PS4 shortly after the PS5 was released not knowing she had the wrong one hahaha)

As a pure offline solo player, I don't game like I used to but when I am in the mancave playing, she kind of knows to just let me be.

That's funny about the PS4! I'll bet it wasn't too funny at the time though in regards to disappointment.

We as a society are going through a lot of cultural change right now, some of it I dislike, some I hate, and some I think is a good thing.

The idea that what people find entertaining shouldn't be judged (again camping, hunting, etc vs video game release day) so harshly as everyone is different. It's this kind of personal acceptance and empathy that most people are willing to concede to, thank goodness. I wasn't sure I'd ever see that in our lifetimes..

My idea to stay at home on Madden release day isn't a masculine one like the first day of hunting season or whatever, but hey it's me, and I appreciate the fact my wife ain't gonna judge me as a weirdo for doing something a bit unconventional

Ended up using a vacation day for Monday for the 10 hour trail. So I’ll have Sunday, Monday, Tuesday off that week. Should be a good amount of time to sink my teeth into the game. Needed to use a vacation day to give myself a break so using it for launch week was a no brainer lol.

I am with you on that ODogg. My wife says the same thing about my gaming. She also says I know I know you are in the other room. That I am either hitting, bouncing, kicking, catching a ball or burning rubber. I am not in the streets.

That is what I normally do especially sine I went all digital several years ago. It was a few titles that I would get up at midnight to give the game a slight preview. Before I would go back to bed for work the next day. That is what did for Prooject Cars 2 (the first game that did this for) also did it with Forza Horizon 5 and NBA2k23 last year. The myEras had me drooling could not wait to actually see that.
