That’s a necessary evil with human control. MANY gamers will be pissed off if they cannot do a player action under their control. Perhaps there can be awareness factors so it's kinda like swinging at the ball blind, but the ability to do the action must always remain<O</O

QB's keeping their eyes downfield while scrambling.

I had Romo scramble right which made him look and run toward the sideline. Only to turn and heave it into the endzone.

Looked funny. He wasn't even looking at the WR when he threw.

I'd like to see QB's looking off safeties and safeties reading the eyes of the QB (awareness rating determines how well this occurs).

Also, would love to see LB's looking into the backfield to get burned on Play Action or reverses.

We're off to a good start in my opinion. Thanks Ian.

Any new addition that adds more realism to the game is more than welcome.

            I dig this. Madden 10 Team, you're 1 for 1.

This is a feature that I think will go a long way towards adding 'life' to the players. If I'm going to be coming along for this 6 month journey, judging from the first step I feel we're heading in a good direction.

If I may add - while this is something that will be appreciable during gameplay, I feel it's full potential for greatness will be unlocked during Replays...whether a few Auto-Replays after a completion or if we go into Instant Replay to really see "how it went down".

Having said that - I'm going to vocalize my concern nice and early that these wonderful animations won't be gimped in the PS3 version. If that "Compressed Animation" thing from 08/09 hasn't been solved yet, maybe you can get an engineer on it now. Can there be an early relationship formed with Sony to assist in getting Madden looking it's best on PS3?

Keeping with the "Everything you see on Sunday" thing, I am hoping that if you have Officials on the field that you can use this with them.

Sometimes there are obvious penalties that are missed because the refs are dodging players or otherwise occupied. If an action could only be flagged when an official is stable and looking in the direction of that action it would be awesome.

Procedural awareness could be used to distinguish the decision making abilities of one QB from another. QBs with a high awareness ratings will look off defenders, where as QBs with a lower awareness rating would have a tendacy to lock onto WRs.

No doubt ... what an amazing final drive! I agree it was definitely not the best officiated game, but bad calls went both ways, and when it was all said and done, the BEST team won the game. Anybody that can't admit that either didn't watch the game, or doesn't understand football as a whole.

Championship #6 .... well deserved!!! Talk about as model of consistency, the Steelers just get it done.

In my opinion this is the best chance for EA to make the awareness rating count for something. I don't know if it is possible to manipulate this feature so that smarter and better players are better at keeping their heads on the swivel. While, rookies and scrubs take longer to react to their surrounding environment. But, it would be a very cool way to further seperate elite, good, bad, experienced, and inexperienced players.

                      Mr. Cummings,
while I do respect this info as a cool little piece of tech, PLEASE FOCUS INTENSELY ON WAYS TO STOP PEOPLE FROM TAKING THE FOOTBALL STRATEGY OUT OF MADDEN. Specifically, I mean the Rocket Catch, the over effectiveness of the FB dive, people being able to assign d-linemen to play pass coverage(but not sacrafice their run defense). People are winning your big money tourneys with cheap, simple minded tactics. Please put a stop to this.
A new feature I was thinking of on D could be this, a super quick menu system that you can bring up for any individual player or your entire defense at once. This menu would allow you to set different defensive priorities like 1)jumping a slant route 2)going for the strip or the int 3)blitzing a certain gap. Things like that. LET US CUSTOMIZE THE DEFENSIVE A.I. AT ANY TIME WITH A SUPER QUICK ON THE FLY MENU SYSTEM.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Also, this will be awesome if it actually makes it so they do need to see the ball or the receiver getting ready to catch the ball before they actually break off of the guy they're covering before going to where the ball is headed.

                              Worthwhile start, Ian!

The next six months should be fun and informative.

Re: The First Official Feature For Madden NFL 10!

This could, and probably will, revolutionise the way defensive players now react to the ball which is something we have been clamouring for for as long as I can remember.

What it will also do is make the QB's (the good ones anyway) that much more dangerous as now (hopefully) there will be no more superman interceptions with heads and bodies turned away from the ball.

It will be interesting then to see how Ian and the team balance the already superhuman robo qb's to make them human again, especially as they will now be able to exploit this new read and react AI for the defenders.
I wonder how the community thinks the AI QB's could now be 'tuned' down (from 09 anyway) so that they compete on the same playing field as the defense.

My personal opinion to help aid this...

                                1. QB's now have a 'real' blind spot. No more getting rid of the ball when Mathis sneaks up on you while you're looking downfield. There is no better sight in football than a QB getting hammered when he just didn't see it coming. At the moment AI QB's have 360 vision it seems.

                                2. Progressions. Good QB's do it and find an open guy, bad ones lock on and literraly dial up the defense and tell them where they're going to throw. With this new head tracking AI we should be able to try and guess where the AI QB is going to chuck, espicially if they have poor awareness and don't do their progressions adequately. This would help balance out the now more human defensive play.

                                3. QB scrambling and throwing on the run. Yes, Big Ben can do it, yes Tony Romo can do it. But please, Marc Bulger can't. There must now be an AI code programmed for being flushed out of the pocket and throwing on the run or whilst hit. We need to see wounded ducks for these types of play. This again would help balance out the infamous robo QB.

Just my two cents, what do you guys think?

Edit: Forgot to say thanks to Ian and the team for the extraordinary customer service by posting so regularly on these forums. Outstanding.
