I kinda liked that one in 09 (his knees and hands go to high, at 90* angles but other than that, it was fine) If they can just be lowered a little, Id still keep that animation.

As people are saying, the new adjusted animation is more dynamic and does add some weight to the player.. but is does look like he's hurt or tired. If he's in the open field, Id honeslty rather have the old animation, just with the height change of the arms and legs.

I just need the old one to be lower on the thigh and more leg kick out (unbend the knee forward) and shorten up the length of the arm rotation... that would honestly do it for me.
I agree, but make his legs churn a lot faster like he is in a full on sprint(if they stick with the 09 animation).

New animation looking much better. I do agree that the legs need to move faster...I think that is what's "off". But it definitely looks much less mechanical than 09. Great!

in this old gen video the RB sprinting is almost like the new video it was great .this is way back in 01, and watch the foot plant at the end . next-gen is almost there. also watch the back started out low then came up high as he got faster .
THIS IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE !!! and this is last gen.. wow ! Also, check out 2k5 running animations.. thoae are awsome as well. I got faith in EA this year. LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN !!!

Re: Madden NFL 10: Updated Running Animation

I think the thing that really needs the most work is making cutting more realistic. This was the reason I felt Madden has looked robotic, is that players barely dip when performing quick turns. If you could add a sense of weight to the players and better body lean when not running just straight ahead then I think this would make for a much better looking running animation overall.

I do like this running animation better though and it is nice to see the work being done to fix this. Keep up the good work.

Edit: One more thing. I've always felt the running animations in last gen looked a lot smoother and fluid and would be nice if you looked at them when working on run animations.

Re: Madden NFL 10: Updated Running Animation

Wow, great work. After just tweaking it for a few weeks, you already have an amazing running motion. Please please please keep improving the running motions. I've already shown this work to a lot of madden-related forums, and some of them are excited for the game for the first time. Frankly, the tiny stuff like equipment detail is good, but THIS is the kind of change that will bring 2k'ers and disenchanted Madden'ers back to Madden.

                Thanks!

Re: Madden NFL 10: Updated Running Animation

Another thing is.... The Ball is too far away from Kellers body (I think thats Dustin Keller, could be wrong)... I would like some more tuck away on that, some movement in the arm, just closer hold the ball closer to the body.. around his left peck and armpit.

The more I watch it, the more I would like a little more upright... keep the motion, but it almost looks like he his a little hunched forward... I would say take the upright body from the 09 and use the new motion of the upper body.

The arms do seem werid, the body does look like its tired, or has a limp, and the ball is still held away from the body (the air gap between the ball and the body)... but its a start.

I would just say, a little more upright (with the same motion), ball in the armpit or tight to the chest (Tiki BArber?) with same motion, and no dive at the end (a simple TD slowdown to a jog).

A front view is not always the best we of judging this either, a side, or rather.... a behind view.. because that is way we will be seeing it in the game.

A behind view would be the best reference.
Can't wait for this NFL Draft!

I disagree seeing as it is a bigger guy like keller he should be leaning forward trying to get as much speed as possible to get into the end zone.

I've already commented about the ball, I agree.

Dustin Keller is a speed/receiving TE. He ran a 4.5 40 at the combine. That's better than some WR's in the league.

They need to do something to separate the feet just a little more. We've mentioned leaning when running several times now. I think if they can add a little left + right movement to the legs that they'll find it makes the WR appear as if he is moving more into turns.

I do think the run animation is getting better.

But to be honest...it still looks "choppy" I guess is the word I'd use. It just doesn't look as smooth and fluid as I'd like to see.

Running upright is fine at full speed, that's what you should be doing.

Its forward body lean bro..Backward body lean doesn't even make sense unless you are slipping on some ice or something crazy like that.
Forest Gump actually exhibited very good running technique.

Look, when you reach top speed you are vertical, that's how you run properly, you don't lean forward, that makes no sense. You lean forward as you accelerate but once you reach top speed you are upright.

Look at the picture bellow, and compare AP in Madden 09 to proper full speed posture on the guy on the right and note the difference. Madden running looks funky because at full speed the athletes still have a forward body lean, which is incorrect.
