Yeah, the landing pad is ugly. I wouldn't expect an option to turn it off though. There has to be something to tell you where a pass would land. If they don't add a "classic" option, expect a permanent landing pad. That's ugly and completely contridicts Ian's goal of cleaning up the screen and making the most realistic representation of football ever.

And the footwork didn't get cleaned up like I hoped. Guys are still ignoring the laws of physics. If players are not forced to plant and change direction realistically, it's going to hurt gameplay. I threw a few pics to defenders that were able to stop on a dime, spin on one foot and make a play.

My enthusiam is no where near as high as it was after playing a couple of months ago. I expected more improvements.

^^^ Yeah, I was hoping for at least a "classic" version of the landing circle, not turn-off completely. Like you said, I doubt there will be an option either way. They just made a little mistake there. I can live with it, but in the future I hope they consider how these things look and leave more options.

actually, in the case of this video, I think its a pretty fair assessment and even the IGN video.

This video has maybe a minutes worth of gameplay footage and two of the "scenes" are the exact same play.

In regards to the IGN video, not all the features were working(Pro-Tak) so its hard to make a fair judgment on that video. Now we could argue til the cows come home as to why that video was shown knowing that its lacking probably the most important gameplay feature addition, but thats a separate argument.

I think the reason the videos were shown is because people who follow the game as a casual Madden player are the overwhelming majority...OS Madden followers and people who break the game down to molecules are a significant minority. So while the game may get a little heat here in the confines of the forum...The general non-forum going public probably has a far better opinion about what they've seen.

EA marketing teams know that they have to show something so I don't think it bothers them to realease a few frames to IGN to get the hype train revved up. For every 1 negative comment here on the forum there are probably 10 positive comments or feelings by the general Madden consumer. Not speaking for myself but I'd say most consumers overall are still excited about Madden

Guys that played this at CD, based on the videos it seems that most of the foot planting and momentum work was done on the offensive end and the defense can still play unrealistically, is that a fair assessement in you opinion.

I am not going to bash madden anymore. All of the new features that I have seen look poor or pre-program canned animations...I will wait until Aug 14th to say how good or bad that madden is ...until then , i will be playing nfl 2k5 running in 720p with updated rosters(this years rookies are included)with a custom view and simply amazing in game audio. It is truly a great feat to hear coaches in one speaker, players in another speaker, game music and the PA coming out the mid speaker....WOW....I cant believe how much that you can customize this game and that it is 4years old...place game speed to fast, change the view, and play some real football. thanks to everyone who has placed a roster up for download,

There's no denying the fun I had playing that unfinished version of the game, but as open as they were to suggestions, and as easily & quickly as some things were addressed on the spot, I expected more.

I assumed footwork, especially for defenders, and the pocket would be addressed. Major let downs at this point.

But there's still time... I think.

The game play sequences in this video are really short, and we don't get a side view of the players running styles when they have the ball, however from the back view it sure looks like there are new running animations in the game. Of course, that might just be wishful thinking on my part. Ian said they were working on new animations, gave us a peak at one them (which looked far better than the old ones), told us to be patient for the new ones as they were reworking all running animations, and then never spoke on the subject again.

I'm basing my guess at new running animations based on the arm/shoulder movement of the players who have the ball.

What do you guys think? New running animations?

Yes. I have a bad habit of playing as if players will respond realistically. I remember throwing a few pics not expecting defenders to react so quickly.

Hopefully Ian & company realize how much of a gameplay issue this is.

I do remember being punished for over running plays, but that's probably because defenders plant for 180 degree changes of direction. Hopefully it's easily tuned to account for more subtle changes in direction.
