Re: Madden NFL 10 Online Franchise Confirmed

If one owner isn't available for a game deadline but the other one is, can you instead of simming the game have the one owner play the CPU and use those results?

That would be a good punishment for someone not being available.

If you sim the whole game, he might get a win for not even showing up.

Assuming the implement the same stuff as Online Dynasty (and they better, at least, do that ) The Comish in your league would be able to put said player (the one who isn't available) in Auto Pilot Mode, meaning that team would be CPU controlled until taken off AP Mode. This will allow the other user to be able to play his game vs the cpu.

Can't really answer that as the groups I play with play for fun and would just sim it and take the results and there wouldn't be any "Punishment".
We are pretty much "friends" and understand sometime stuff happens and games can't be played by the deadline.

Again, it sounds cool, I just don't know how realistic it is to have a bunch of friends who all love Madden, all have the same exact system, and all are willing to play online. It's far from impossible to find, but I guess the more realistic option is to find people online rather than recruit your real life friends.

And I agree that if you lose in franchise mode, that's okay because it's indeed a franchise mode. My point is that it would seem that you might only get through..2 seasons, maybe 3. That doesn't seem all that long to rebuild a team.

Obviously that would depend on what your commish set as the play deadlines. If you advanced every 2 or 3 days, then you could easily finish more seasons than 2 or 3.

People who've not played NCAA online dynasty are at a disadvantage when thinking about these issues. From my experience, everyone gets into the season and wants to advance as quickly as possible. If you only have a 6 or 8 person franchise, then odds are that at least half of those games will be against the CPU every week. People can play those games at their leisure, and can usually play those games the same day as the advance. The only real reason it takes a few days to advance is trying to get the human vs. human games played b/c 2 people have to coordinate their schedules. It's kinda hard to explain, but these things will advance pretty quickly if you have a group of guys that can play in the late evenings, maybe after their kids go to bed or after wives/girlfriends and other daily chores are finished.

Usually around 9-11 would be a prime time for my online dynasties to get our human vs. human games in. Trust me, once you get into the franchise, you will be checking it all the time to see if the other people have played their games so the commish can advance so you can play your next week. With the iPhone app and the website integration, I predict a lot of people's work time will be spent checking their online Madden franchise. It really does become somewhat addictive.

What my leagues do when an owner is not available is use substitutes. So if I am the Packers owner and I can't get to my game cause Im out of town or whatever, I post it on the leagues forum and the game is played with an owner from the AFC who has no interest in the outcome. I don't know if the commish will be able to allow something like this in online franchise tho.

The reason online franchise has the potential to be more successful than online dynasty? THE DRAFT.

In the OD, if you are doing poorly you can't bring in recruits. As a results, a lot of users get frustrated and leave. In the NFL, these teams are rewarded wtiht he top draft picks. I think this will keep the struggling users interested.

Re: Ok, what do we want to know abotu On-Line Franchise?

Is it possible to have a human play for CPU controlled teams on my schedule. I would like to only play human opponents even if my franchise only has 2 or 3 fully human controlled teams. So basically anytime I have a CPU opponent on my schedule I could choose to have a person take over for that team for just one game.

                        Online Franchise - Virtual Profiles

2K5 / APF2K8 both had something called a VIP which kept track of the offensive plays / defensive plays, situational stats, and other relevant information. It even knew if you sat there and circled your player before the play started. AFP2K8's VIP usage is a little broke, but the idea is still sound.

Madden 10 is bringing online franchise to the fore front, which is very neat. One of the difficulties of playing online is getting everyone to play their games. And getting some guys to play against other guys (many will try to duck their games and just take the loss).

I thought it might be a good idea if Madden had some type of player profile that could be used to play a game when a player doesn't want to. They could mark the week as 'profile play' or something other relevant terminology and let the other player play the game against their profile so they don't have to play it. This lets the other player play the game, and ensure stats are available for every game for the players who want to play / compete.

Thoughts? Have a better way to use this idea? Or another way of going about it?

I've been in 24 team leagues. I am actually in the process of a growing 32 team online franchise in M10. NFLHITMAN ran dozens of leagues in APF which were wonderful. He is putting one together for M10 and it is going to be everything an online SIM player could want. We'll eventually adopt sim rules if necessary. We vote on everything, so everyone has a say.

Remember Operation Sports is a GREAT place to network for leagues like this. For the most part the individuals that surf this site actually like the sports of the games they are playing and want to represent them properly. You are right about it being difficult to put something good together with a bunch of completely random people. Have to put a little effort in and network!

For all the things that 2K gets praised for on their football games (some justifiably so, others not so much), the VIP system is the one that I wished got more press...

I thought the VIP was amazing (creeped me out to play against myself and see the CPU doing a lot of the same pre-snap shifts and BnR that I would do on defense, but in a cool way) - and I had visions of the day that you would never again play a game against an online cheeser because you would be able to download their VIP first and if you liked playing against it offline you could seek them out or accept games online.

The possibilities for VIP were endless, unfortunately, the string of 2K football games has been anything but endless....
