SmokeCapone - I get tired of the position swapping of WRs, one minute there in the slot next minute there flankers

Are you saying that despite the numerous times that star receivers are put in the slot in NFL games, that any NFL HC or OC putting their best guy in the slot to get a legitimate mismatch on some scrub corner is a cheeser? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I just don't see the problem with this.

On topic, though, please let those with great MCV ratings lock guys down, period. Let's try and cut the "Ted Ginn just abused Asomugha for another 40 yard reception" to a minimum, please.

The problem lies in that in 09 you can't assign your best db to shadow Randy Moss for instance. So when he goes to the slot he is gonna match up with your number 3 cb unless you've gone in and changed the depth chart.

Exactly what I am saying, Its considered cheese because there is no real counter for it as far as defensive assingments go. If we had defensive assingments in 09 like there was in the PS2 versions then this wouldnt be an issuesince my top DB would be covering the most explosive WR on the opponents team.

What we're getting in 09 is a lot of people putting there Dbs in at WR and moving certain WR out in different positions to exploit weaknesses we can only counter by either controlling the safety of double team them.'

We dont have too much time to make all those needed adjustments before the ball gets hiked.

        So yea it is cheese.

Just found out from Ian's twitter that he's going to check out Man Coverage tomorrow to make sure it's working but he said it's been looking pretty solid lately

Ok, that clears that up. So, as long as we can have all our old defensive adjustments back (inside/outside shade, first down hook zones, individual BnR, man lock on/off, etc.) then we can also do what is normally straight offense, but is screwed up due to the AI, especially in man coverage.

Will getting back defensive assignments help to alleviate this problem?

IMO, yes. The first one has been addressed so that the defense will be able to assign the db they want to shadow the wr they want. With that in, people won't have a problem with guys moving wrs around.

Getting the other adjustements back would go along way to help this as well. The toughest route to defend in 09 is probably crossing routes or drags because it is all about speed right now.

Allowing the defense to shade to the inside would mean their dbs could get position on the wr and can cut that route off. The counter would be to use routes that start off going inside and then breaking outside or using more out routes. So shading wrs brings back a huge element of strategy that is missing at the moment.

The second weapon is individual bumping. If you have a physical db like Charles Woodson you may want to bump the wr to slow him up getting off his route and mess up the timing of the play. But if you have one db that is a smaller/faster type he may not be physcial enough for his matchup so you may want to keep him off his man a bit and use his speed to cut off the routes. Right now it's all or nothing and takes something away from using all your players strengths.

The last weapon I am waitng for is the man lock. If you ask me this is the biggest weakness in the strategy portion of the passing game. Right now, if the offense puts a guy in motion or even just comes out in a twins set, they instantly know man or zone because you can't disguise it or pass guys off. Now things get much easier,if you see zone: time the pass to connect as wr gets into the hole in the zone, if you see man: crossing or drag routes as long as the offensive player is faster.

If we can get these back, we can get back to strategy and cut down on the money plays because the defense can position themselves to stop certain routes if they know their opponent likes to run them. It's a shame it looks like most of them will be missing from the game once again.
