And while I did like alot of the answers, this one irks me...

Can someone please tell me how many former players become coaches? I can understand as positional coaches, but Ive always hated that you seen top players become head coaches in the game, when that never really happens.

Either way, looks like Ill be renting Madden this year. Looks alot better, for sure, but this blog pretty much made up my mind.
I could have sworn that like half the head coaches/positional coaches in the NFL currently have played in the NFL before...? Some not as good as others but they have played before. I may be wrong because I dont really have any hard facts to back that statement but it just seems like every coach that is in the NFL is either related to an NFL player/coach or used to play in the NFL.

See, I told you I was wrong. That makes it even better. I thought we were restricted to the hand crated classes. Thanks for clearing it up.

            Re: NEW FRANCHISE BLOG

Well I just read all of the pages of this post.

Most of it is just people arguing over Coaches or each other opinions. I know I am no better with my last two post btw. I guess I couldn't help myself any more then the rest of you.

There were a few people we some decent input.

I can't believe no one else is upset about progression only occurring in the offseason. The only person that mentioned it pointed out how worthless this makes the preseason games. I don't feel this is true to life AT ALL. Player progress and regress during the season, and the preseason. Preseason is huge for rookies and player evaluation.

I also have no idea at this point if the many bugs from last season have been adressed or simply ingnored. For example, players career stats going to a different player after the retire. There are plenty of others.

My understand of this year's franchise was it was making a GOOD FOUNDATION. I was really happy with that. All the extra fluff without the basic stuff working well and being bug free doesn't mean too much.

But with only offseason progression and no idea about the many bugs I am NOT seeing the foundation I want to build my $60 house on.

I am not saying I am unhappy about most of the improvement they have made. But to ME progression is one of the biggest issues. TO ME fixing know bugs is another big issue and KNOWING they were fixed.

There were a lot of questions asked but IMO it doesn't take THAT long to answer about 100 question. Sounds like a few hours worth of work to me. I read ALL of the pages of questions on the Q/A blog post from Josh. I don't think it would have taken that long to answer all of the questions. I say that NOT KNOWING how thier marketing department works and what restrictions Josh has from them and (I assume) legal.

            Just my opinoin.

I remember last year when every1 was excited about the upcoming
franchise blog and they got very discouraged when they posted this http://games.easports.com/madden09/fullsite/blog.jsp

I fell the same way now as none of the real big time questions was not answered

                Re: NEW FRANCHISE BLOG

If the draft and trade logic are really tightened up and the stats are realistic (with backup RB's getting realistic carries/yardage), I'll be happy with all of the upgrades to franchise for this year and it sounds like that is happening.

                  @stux

I personally feel that stat based progression is completely wrong in the first place. The fact that they are still going down that path makes it all wrong period. Stats should only be a small part of progression. Training camp, coaches, playing time, stats, age, potential, playbook/system, and players work ethic should all be big factors to how quickly and well a player grows.(there may be others but those are just examples)

Another way to look at this is to check out the Broncos team of old. Almost every single starting RB that has played a full season has rushed for over 1000 yards every season and almost every single back runs for over 4.0+ yards per carry. That would make them great RBs under this current system of stat based progression. But IRL only one of those RBs went on and continued to produce at anywhere near the same level.

                    Re: NEW FRANCHISE BLOG

I agree that progression needs to take into account more then just stats.

I think stat based progression would need to be different for just about every position. Lets face it, if a DT is getting 15 sacks a season it isn't the "system" OR other players around him.

In running back example, if a back was getting 2k+ with 15+ TDs for a few season he should get a bump. Even if he is running behind a 85+ rated line one a team with passing game.

But if he is getting 1K+ with a 4ish yard average then his progression needs to take into account the other factors like you mention.

I feel progression needs to take into account everything you mentioned, potential, and stats (with different factors for every position).

I feel that there almost needs to be two OVR ratings. One a static number different every game based on health, injury, coach, practice, etc. The other a RANGE. I feel every ratings should be a range and the number for each game would be determined by, again, things like health, coach, practice, etc.

If it work like that and the RANGES progressed/regressed ONLY in the offseason I would be fine with a once a year progression.

I just do not feel that players should be rated the same for every game for an entire season (includine preseason) barring injury. That just insn't realistic.

People are always going to demand what they want. Whether or not anyone is listening or not doesn't matter.

Politicians don't care about most people's opinions unless they are a lobbyist. That doesn't stop people from protesting even though the politicians aren't really listening.

It isn't someone listening that creates the empowerment. It is the fact that they, you, me CAN.

                          @stux

Great points and I agree completely.

I forget to add that older more experienced players could help the younger players progress faster as well.

@everyone who does not see the whole picture

This whole system irks me because its nothing like what happens IRL. I dont mean to insult anyone(devs) because they have been doing a great job this year but by making stats the only reason for progression seems really lazy. Anyone who thinks that a player who rushes for 1500 yards and 20 touchdowns should jump from a 70 overall to a 90 overall if he has the potential just because he put up those numbers is missing the complete picture.

Why do you think NFL teams have training camps and workouts during the offseason? Why do you think there is a preseaon and a lot of the starters play rather poorly in the first few games? Why do you think there is such a premium on coaches? Its because those are factors that develop the team. That team then has the chance to produce.

i was wanting to know something about practice drills, mini camp games, scouting, and training camp. how exactly do you improve your players, besides playing them in games?

think im gonna wait another year to get back into franchise.

I would think as long as the potentials are reasonable everything should be alright.Even if you put up great stats it isn't like in years past when people would take an Andre Woodson or remember Adrian McPherson and turn 'em into a 99.Those guys probably wouldn't have the potential to be over an 80 tops.
