Many of you are not reading this statement correctly. This is not about the exclusive license. What this law firm is saying is that EA rigged the game to take advantage of us. Year in and year out EA puts a new gimmick in each years Madden (be it the hit stick, hit stick 2.0, pro-tak, referees on the field, FIELD GOAL NETS, the list goes on).

EA has created a system in which they can marginally improve on each years game with minimal effort and a shiny new gimmick. They have created a game where every year it will get decent reviews no matter what and if it's better than the year before people will buy it.

    READ THIS: [ratings from IGN.com]
    M'03 got a 9.1
    M'04 got a 9.4
    M'05 got a 9.5
    M'06 got a 8.8

    Next Gen
    M'07 got an 8.7
    M'08 got an 8.7
    M'09 got an 8.8
    M'10 got an 8.9

Do you see the trend? Each year's game gets a little better (or just different) but with nothing major except a gimmick to keep people buying. With no competition, EA has no reason to innovate their game in new ways each and every year and why should they? They make tons of money everytime each year and they put out a "solid" game. Whether or not the game is worth $60 each year is debateable but the point is this, EA has rigged their system and there is more than enough evidence to prove it.

I will not state whether I am for or against this proposed lawsuit but I just thought this post would help people understand what this is all about. If you took the time to read this novel, I thank you
    excellent post Swoot!

If you think EA is purposefully doing this, whatever. You're speaking as if it's a proven fact, and this is not the case. I believe the past dev team royally blew it, but I don't believe they did it purposefully. Just because someone screws something up, this doesn't mean it was intentional, or malicious.

I think Ian and Co. are doing a fine job with the game. The agreement of the license is between the NFL and EA Sports. That's their call, and it's up to me whether or not to buy Madden. That's my choice, as a consumer. If you think Madden isn't worth buying, then don't buy it. I make my suggestions to the dev team on improvements as well, because I find issues with the game too.

To say I don't want innovation is incredulous, especially considering how you came to this conclusion. I've been saying, thus far, that you can't just blame EA for signing a deal that the NFL agreed to. And I don't believe the past dev team did anything to purposefully screw consumers. I think they made a craptacular game, but I think that's due to lack of understanding and vision.

That Ian was placed in position and allowed to do what he's done is evidence to me that there are people at EA Sports who really care that Madden is the best game out there. Clearly, someone saw that things weren't being managed properly, and that the developmental vision wasn't right. Otherwise, we'd see the same team doing the same crap. I think Ian's team is on to the something, and I like where he's taking the game.

Sure, competition is healthy. But right now, there's a legal agreement between EA Sports and the NFL that will prevent that. Too bad, 2K.

EA lost their last bit of credibility with me when they decided to charged their loyal fan base an additional 5 dollars to play ranked games on all madden!!!

          Sad move sad move.

I like Madden 2010. I believe it's leaps and bounds beyond Madden 09. So unless we're talking about Madden 06 - 08, I disagree with you.

                Hmm,

This "crap" they have put out is a very relative term.

I'm sure they annually look at sales numbers though.

That's exactly why you like Madden 10' because it's better than last year. It's always going to be better but that's not saying much. That's the problem with many of you defending EA and Madden 10'. Stop comparing M10 to last year game. Compare it to NFL Football. Comparing it to NFL Football, the game is mediocre at best.

Considering their sales have been slightly declining since about 05.

Do not extrapolate thoughts from my head. I hated every single iteration of next gen Madden. Madden 2009 was terrible (the first next gen Madden game I bought), and I traded it in for NHL 09 (best sports game of last year, IMO). Madden 2010 is the first next-gen Madden that I've liked. No, I'm not just comparing it to last year. I'm looking at it as a whole, as a football game. I like it, and I enjoy it. I believe Madden 2010 is pointed in the right direction.

no, actually some people play games for fun and don't look for every little thing wrong with it. Pretty simple concept. you don't like it, don't buy it or play it. Go outside and play.

In Madden, you don't need to look hard for something wrong with the game. I just don't find my player ricocheting off a pro-tak animation while the ball carrier just continues to run for another 10 yards any fun.

no, actually I play it to have fun. I don't play it expecting it to be exactly like real life. Probably need to stop gaming if you want a perfect game......

I disagree with this. It's a matter of how you view the game. For myself, if that happened here and there (and personally, I've only seen this once or twice), I'm not going to freak out over it. For me, I'm playing a video game, and I'm not going to freak out over such things. In year's past, there were things that made me want to put down the controller, but those were even during the Madden 04 days.

If you need a perfect simulation of football, I recommend you find a league to play in. You will not find it in a video game. I'm not suggesting we just accept flaws. But if you demand absolute perfection in a game, you will not get it.
