Re: Build around a average young qb ideas?
Am playing the Seahawks in my first franchise year. QB position is a definite problem.
I've kept Hasselbeck but released Whitehurst. The best thing to do is go to the Free Agents and sign Robert You (the Make A Wish kid, FYI) on a long term contract. It's a little cheezy, but You is 71 OVR with a big arm and good short-mid throw accuracy, which suits my play style perfectly.
End of this season will be a tough choice. Re-sign or release an aging, fading Hasselbeck? Re-signing is delaying the inevitable and not fixing the problem (but it's the easy choice).
The harder one is to cut him and move on, which I'll probably do. In which case I'll try to get a really good halfback to pick up my rushing game (and avoid You's long throw weakness).
Next thing is the gameflow. I've tweaked the Seahawks' offense (actually a great playbook) in favor of shorter throws this year anyway, so next year I'll build up running plays, short throws and take out play action plays (You has poor PA rating and the CPU sees it anyway).
Will see who is available in free agency (in Mad 10 I once saw Payton Manning but couldn't afford him) but if there isn't anyone good, I'll draft the best QB I can and go with another building season. And pray I get an easy schedule!Comment

Re: Build around a average young qb ideas?
I've used Tyrod Taylor for one of my franchises. He came in with 75? Short ACC and 70? Mid I used the Pats playbook with a ton of short plays for a speedy #2 WR, it also has decent TE routes and a limited running game-- but still ok. A fairly good line and good back, and you might have an offense based on screens to the HB/WR#2 and a pass catching TE. But obviously you wanna run more with this setup...

Re: Build around a average young qb ideas?
-surround him with a dominating defense, basically look at your squad and make sure one core excels don't spread out players all over the field during draft-day
-make sure you have a good Oline
-get a capable RB
-this one is important.. make sure he has a TE and a Slot receiver.. those are his safety nets
it might take 2 or more years to get the team built around him, but it can be done..
edit: and oh, if you're asking who to use/build around/etc that's not really good or great? One word one name... Tim TebowComment

Re: Build around a average young qb ideas?
i actually really like playing with charlie whitehurst. signed him as a backup in my franchise, but mcnabb went down and i won 3 games with whitehurst. he seems more consistently accurate. not sure if i'll build around him, but you could.
also - if you import any ncaa draft classes, the best you'll probably get will be a 'b' potential qb. build around those guys."I hope that someday we will be able to put way our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people." Jack HandyComment

you have to go oldschool..
-surround him with a dominating defense, basically look at your squad and make sure one core excels don't spread out players all over the field during draft-day

-get a capable RB
-this one is important.. make sure he has a TE and a Slot receiver.. those are his safety nets

^totally love this and yes, Tebow is the perfect candidate for your plans. he's the underdog in everyone's eyes. half the nation thinks he's a bust the other says he will be a star. you should totally take advantage of the hype and decide this.Comment

Re: Build around a average young qb ideas?
I have just created a cupcake team (replacing the Bills) and traded for Tebow in as QB (and got Eric Decker thrown in).
I released all but four of the computer generated players (none of them allowed to have A potential) and am just in the process of signing a team of free agents, none of which are allowed to be over 80 OVR.
I also am allowing myself two trades a season so have one more trade available before the season starts.
Looking forward to see how Tebow pans out.Comment
