I've saw an interview somewhere that an EA employee said physics was in the future.

    Beyond that, it's anyone's interpretation.

I thought I read somewhere that they were going to be having a new engine soon (next year possibly) and that would contain the new commentary teams they are working with (Fox, CBS).

Re: How Close are we to a COMPLETELY NEW Madden ENGINE?

The funny thing for me, at least IMO, is that many of the things that EA needs to fix first with the football gameplay before they can wrestle with Motion Physics and real time player interactions could possibly be self corrected with the switchover to real time physics.

I think alot of problems in Madden's gameplay is the effort and tweaking that is required now to try and seam or sync up dice roll algorithms, player ratings and attributes to match pre rendered animations. I think its a big messy job to try and make things look like they are really unfolding realtime when in fact a real time physics engine could indeed be calculating the numbers and letting the actual physics part determine the results.

Im not a programmer, but my guess is that whatever time they keep investing (wasting) into this current tech may not be even be applicable or give them a head start if they go to a more advanced engine. Of course, its just a guess...I have no basis or education in this area.

I think many of us, like myself, would love to see them embrace a fresh new physics based engine that would finally do away with having to see the same animations over and over again until you just get tired of playing the game because everything feels so plotted.....Like that old game of TWISTER! Remember that?

My question is, why a "new" engine? Think about what they've already been able to do with the current engine in regards to tackling. The difference between Madden 09 to Madden 12 is night and day. For the first time EVER, I can finish a ball carrier off and not just fall to the ground when I hit them. That's with the same ol' technology. It's proof of concept that Madden can be fixed w/o having to completely re-write the underlying technology of the game.

Now physics? I'd want them to develop the ever-loving juice out of a new physics engine before we see it. I do NOT want to see what we saw in Backbreaker.

I agree completely. I would much rather see them come out with a new physics engine in Madden 14 and get it right than have it in Madden 13 and be all glitchy and not portray real football. I believe that they will be better off waiting to put it in the game until it is a "finished product" in the sense that it makes the gameplay seem like what you see on TV.
