I haven't been keeping up on all the news but aren't you on the Madden team or did you jump ship as well? Maybe i'm getting my Ian's confused.

I would like to know why certain things, that were possible on games made years ago, weren't possible for Madden 10 or 11. Some of these things, that the community has been clamoring for, were implemented on inferior platforms.

Things like ball trajectory, the pass rush, QB mechanics, oline/dline interaction, more realistic animations, proper foot-planting animations, better commentary, fleshed out presentation, I could go on and on.

These are the things that a lot of people were asking for, and many of these things were done on inferior platforms, so I don't understand how technology, or lack there of, prevented the development team from implementing those.

Did you read my post? It's evident to me that he's saying the engine is what it is and until the technology of a new engine is implemented the game will always have certain limitations. I don't think he meant the industry technology prohibited anything but rather the game as it stands now limits things... Maybe I'm wrong but that's how I took his statement..

omg i can not wait till madden 2050 comes out lol at some point they need to come up with another name and make a new image of what they are trying to make when i think of madden i think arcade and online cheese a whole new name would do that franchise some good.

Inferior platforms, yes, but also different tech running on those inferior platforms.

The current gen Madden isn't a port of last gen. They redesigned the game, from the ground up, with the intyention of having it play very similarly to last gen, but it is not a direct port.

It is possible to have worse underlying engines, on better hardware.

Fair enough. And I do know that you were a driving force in trying to get Tiburon's tools up to the level of what they were using in Vancouver. For that I do say thanks, and have faith that the game will be better for it.It is also great to hear that Cam has expanded the gameplay team. I do remember Phil saying that would be non-productive, that a larger team doesn't neccessarily mean larger or faster improvements. I always kinda thought that was more about bottom line than being a valid argument. I do wish you both great success in your future endeavors!

BTW, I like you as GAMER Ian Cummings a lot more. You can fight back now.....

P.S. You know Im gonna be looking for you come Fifa 12 time. We still have a rubber match to settle the series.
              Note to Tiburon Marketing:

A great product sells itself, no "back of the box" features required! (See Fifa...)

do yourself a favor & go read some of Adembroski's posts.....

......heck I'll even paraphrase one of them......Adem mentioned that what IAN & PHIL will be known for is building tech tools that will allow the dev team to take huge steps in each dev cycle moving forward from M11 & beyond.
Bummed that you're not on my ignore list yet?.....Don't worry, I'm sure you will be very soon.

To be fair, the NFL and EA's deep pockets is what sells Madden and is why it is a megahit. If a 10 year old plus game like Tecomo Bowl was the only game in town and had the NFL license, it would sell a million copies. It's not like you guys were creating some magical new concept game made from scratch.

As much as I like 2k8, it really does overdo the whole momentum and foot planting aspects.

I think most of us would be happier if EA found the medium between what we have now and what 2k8 has. That would more than likely deliver the most realistic experience.

I could really go in to a very detailed retort, but I won't derail the thread with more 2K talk lol.

to me this is good news. While this year's game looks great, the Madden team needs new blood. With EA being the only ones out there that can make an NFL game its good to see what others can do with the financial support EA provides. You guys don't honestly think these guys were the only ones who can make a football video game do you? I'm excited to see where the franchise goes from here.

I wish that NCAA would get new blood in there as well and get guys like Ben out of there so we can get some hungry new blood in there. Some new guys who are chomping at the bit to take the franchise to a whole new level and aren't just sitting back on past success.

Just because guys like Ian interacted with us on the boards doesn't mean he was amazing at what he did because in the last 5 years Madden has seen many of it's loyal fanbase, people who have been there from the start, turn on them and not buy the game. So i'm looking at all this change as a huge positive provided that the next crop of hungry developers are up to the high demands of the consumers.
