Re: I May Have Found A Good Solution For a 1-Team Franchise.
Hey guys. I have been super busy the past month with the CPA exam and just picked the game up Monday. I have been playing with a few different teams. Got my NCAA draft classes, and was just about to start a franchise when I see this.
Can someone explain to me exactly what is happening? From what I gather, the computer is making some ****ty decisions when it comes to cuts and keeping some of these horrible "made-up" players. Is that about right?
Wouldn't another fix for this to be to change the age of all the made up players to the max? Maybe that has already been mentioned, but not in this thread. Maybe control all the teams for the first year and change all the UDFA players to the max age?Comment

Re: I May Have Found A Good Solution For a 1-Team Franchise.
NOTE: This fix, for me, DID NOT keep teams from cutting their early picks too (well, at least some of them). I saw guys like Vereen, Pryor, and Paea in the FA pool during the preseason. No 1st rounders there, but too many 2nds for me to like (about 6, I think, with about 3 3rds and 7 or so 4ths).
I did find a workaround for this problem: I signed the FA myself (Rams), worked a multi-year contract out without any bonus, and traded them to the original team for a scrub backup I'd then cut. My thinking is that, with a player like Vereen buried on the depth chart (the Pats kept Faulk for a year), he won't see action this year.
BUT, when the slew of one-year deals ends, these multi-year players will still be on the roster, and hopefully we'll see them get some playing time at that point.
---
It now occurs to me that you could also go into a team like the Pat's roster, edit a guy you think should be gone (Faulk), turn him into a CB or something that will lower his rating, and then trade that player for the guy who was cut. That'd more firmly hold the rookie on the depth chart, and keeps player levels at each position a bit more even.
Hope this helps!Comment

Having done both, I can tell you it was quicker to do this swap (at least personally).

See this is so random. I did not have that issue at all in my test franchise that I ran for three hours last night...and oh I was able to play a couple of games to boot LOL.
So I think random samples are rampant.
My advice is set up your chise exactly with how much control or non control you want and just start playing the game. because on the field it is a blast. It is the most fun I had with Madden since last gen.
The problem is manged is almost a non-issue for me. It is not too complicated with the edit workaround. Or do what I do.
1) Go through each depth chart and identify a possible conflict. I only found 3 out of 32 teams with possible issues of a veteran getting cut which happens IRL (David Garrard anyone?). One was a 94? QB on Chicago. Clearly Cutler is their franchise QB right now. What I did was kept him at thrid string and in week 4 checked his true rating....ended up being a solid 67 with B potnetial. I cut a different lower rated real NFL player and kept the kid for Chicago to develop.
So if managed right in pre-season you can unlock some gem UDFA to replace a more expensive FA. then your FA pool will have some quality for teams to fill their rosters who suffer key injuries.
IMO this UDFA is making franchise pre-season exciting and fresh each and every year.
Unfortunately it requires micromanagement and some time commitment. But not to the extent some are doing. It all depends on how far you want to take it.
But in reality those of us that are this hardcore and stat, roster geeks etc love doing the micromanagment. Yes it would be nice to get much sounder logic.
Those that are more about playing the game and letting the CPU do most of the work will hardley notice major problems.
It is now IMO being blown out of proportion. Yes a legit flaw no doubt, but hardly a so called "gamebreaker".
Enjoy the game!!!!Last edited by Armor and Sword; 09-08-2011, 12:30 PM.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: I May Have Found A Good Solution For a 1-Team Franchise.
Armor & Sword controlls all 32 teams in franchise mode, which is always the best way to ensure realistic rosters/drafts. But that is time consuming.
The method of changing players positions takes about 30-60 minutes and only needs to be done once a season.
Either method results in 90-100% of these fake players being eliminated.Comment

I've been sifting through these forums now for a while and still can't figure out what's right for me - it's tough for me to find the time to spend weeding all this out - but that Armor & Sword has come up with a way to keep some UDFA's while killing off the others, it is tempting...Comment

I personally don't mind that they're fake - I do mind though that real players are getting deleted and there's bad CPU logic though.

The problem is that the CPU decides to keep low OVR rated fake players while cutting real ones with higher OVR.
And to answer your question, I would go with the "change all fake players to QB or P/K so the CPU cuts them method." That takes under an hour to do and you only have to do it once a season.
It will stop all or most real/drafted players from being cut.Comment

The problem isnt that they're fake. (I mean all the draft classes are techincally fake as well if you dont import NCAA ones.)

Here is exactly what I do.
32 team control with everything on 31 teams set to CPU except:
1) in-season resigning (I handle all of that for every team and it takes about 2-3 hours) using a random number method as mentioned in Manningto Harrisons 32 team franchsie handbook
2) Cut Down Days
3) Scouting - unfortunatley if you want to use the new scouting feature (which I really like BTW) you can't set it to cpu for the 31 other teams and user for your one team. So what I am doing is using the scouting guide thread here and only scouting certain positions during the season, combine and then pro days. I am going to let the CPU draft for themselves so they already are hardcoded with their own logic on who to draft based on their teams needs. You can also edit position priorites for every team to make sure they don't draft a P,K in rounds 1-6 and edit the teams that already have a future or existing franchise QB. But for a team like ironically the Colts I hope they do draft a QB as Manning is getting old.
But to get to your point. If you just want to make sure your rosters don't get out of hand with the UDFA just go through each teams depth charts in week one of the pre-season and check for potential conflicts and adjust the depth chart accordingly. Takes all of an hour to do a through job. I did not just slash every UDFA. Some had high overall ? and I owe it to every team to try to unlock a gem. But at the same time all the low rated UDFA were cut where a competent NFL real life player was in place. It is not hard and very streamlined. You can always go in and reset depth charts as you see fit. If I see some wonky stuff like Matt Forte not being a 3 down back I change it.
I am finding franchise mode much more enjoyable having the 32 team control. And I am getting as involved or non involved as I see fit. basically you can play commissioner and GM all at once. It really has added to my immersion big time.
Off-season stuff (draft resignings, free agent auction) will take one weekend. But to me that is part of the enjoyment of playing the game! Then off to the regular seasonLast edited by Armor and Sword; 09-08-2011, 02:09 PM.Now Playing on PS5:

Are you using NCAA or generated draft classes? Does this make a difference? I will be using generated if that matters in the response..
Does CPU still draft K/P early w/ generated classes? Will the Panthers/Jags/etc still draft a QB early with a 'QB of the Future' on the roster?
During the draft, I assume I have to draft for all 32 teams...is there a way to let the CPU make the selection for me for the other 31 teams? I read somewhere that I have to go pick-by-pick, but do I actually have to choose the draftee for each selection, or is there a 'let CPU choose' type option?
Are you saying that you scout for all 32 teams, or for none? If I scout for just my 1 team and let the CPU scout for the others, does it actually effect who the CPU will select in the draft? I understand I will have an advantage by knowing which guys I want to target, but is it not still possible the CPU will also find some of these players?
Appreciate your feedback.Comment

Re: I May Have Found A Good Solution For a 1-Team Franchise.
The QB of the Future should make CPU teams skip on Qb's in the 1st round. Generated Classes do not have K/P ranked as highly as NCAA and is not an issue, though setting their priorities to 0 wouldn't hurt either.Comment

Re: I May Have Found A Good Solution For a 1-Team Franchise.
Long time reader...
I would like to know is anyone on twitter other than me posting to Donny Moore about the Franchise... Many are requesting rosters, but the changes many of us care about is farther than that.
I thought of something and posed it to him a short while ago. Why can't the rosters contain 75 players per team. It will include all the camp invites and IRs and 53 man rosters... The statements from all reading state that the rosters contain room to expand to 75, and the AI makes this adjustment by adding UDFA's that are "Fake".
In theory if the rosters contain 75 already then upon entering the Franchise mode the "Fake" generated players can't/won't be generated (atleast until season 2).
1- The great thing is we have updated rosters from normal play.
2- We have rosters with all camp invites and no "Fake" UDFA's
I have been able to simply sign players above 53 from the Roster section before going into franchise. As of how many is unknown since I didn't test that portion as of yet. If we can populate rosters in normal File Roster Management Mode (before entering the franchise or anything) then this is truly possible with a expanded roster update.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrongComment
